I laughed, so hard, when the audience reacted in fear to the not-hot-Mitsuru's facial expressions.

Nice Twilight Take That!.

Oh god, nice audience gag of the trash can one.

@Wreck: HOW THE HELL DOES ONE DO THAT?

"It's a spiral again!" (FINALLY!)

Uzumaki would be slightly more effective at being scary if the characters didn't have the intelligence of snails.

Yea, the town has some weird effect. The whole thing's been going back centuries, IIRC the trope page for the series.

Regarding the Q&A, he mentions at the end that he's planning a Harvey Finevoice Christmas album but just doesn't have the music for it. I kinda wanna lend my hand here and contact him about that [lol]

Hmm, that's an idea then. I should actually do that, then. The only problem I could think of is where I'd get the time to work on the music in between classes, work, and, well, classwork, but I'm sure I'd find a way.

I just looked on his site, and lo and behold what he says in his latest blog post:

Harvey Finevoice Album
I also mentioned in the recent Q&A from Youmacon that I'm interested in making a Harvey Finevoice album, particularly a Christmas album as the holiday season approaches. The problem with this is that I don't want it to be an A Capella album, meaning I need background music to go along with these tunes.

Many people have suggested getting our old pal Skitch to help with that, but the thing is that Skitch has his own life (and job) outside of providing music to several TGWTG producers and I've already got him on commission for something coming up and I don't think he'd be able to put that together in time. The good news is that any album I put together would probably include "If You Should Want the Moon," since that song comes from the black and white B-movie "The Beatniks," and that film already fell into the public domain and I can see no attempt to hold the copyright it and the music made for it.

Several people have suggested sending me karaoke tracks from their own C Ds and the like to work with it. That would be great... except there's a teensy bit of a problem - I'm pretty sure it's illegal for me to record my own singing TO those karaoke tracks and then reselling them, since the karaoke tracks aren't meant for resale purposes, even when used in this manner. That might not be the case for all of it, but I would almost guarantee that it's the case for most of them.

The good news is that most classic Christmas music is public domain anyway, it's just I would need to find public domain instrumental accompaniment for it. This is where I'm once again asking for advice from people - be it the talented musicians out there who would like to talk to me about recording something with them and splitting profits or just that they know a source of public domain music that I could use (theoretically Archive.org would have this stuff, but they seem to have revised how their site works so it's not JUST public domain material anymore there). But yeah, that's something I'd like to hear from you guys about.

So I definitely should get in touch with him for this.

Apologies for the triple post, but I went ahead and did that, sending the following e-mail to him:

Dear Lewis,

After watching your recent Q&A video and reading the accompanying blog post, I was intrigued by your mention of wanting to get done a Harvey Finevoice Christmas album. As an aspiring musician and a decent guitarist and bassist (and semi-competent keyboardist), I would be more than willing to provide you with music for the album if you would like. Just tell me what it is that you specifically want for the album and I will provide that for you to the best of my ability. As a long-time fan, I figure that this would be a nice way to try to give back to you and the show.

Sincerely,
<my real name>

[up]Do you now or have you ever lived in Chicago? Do you like watching shitty horror movies on TV? Have you been alive for 30-40 years?

I'm 1 for 3 on that. I'm still not entirely sure why I get that reference

No on all accounts! (Although the second is more because I rarely watch TV these days. I don't mind horrible horror.)

I have received a reply from Lewis! Apparently no one else has offered yet, which I'm surprised about. Anyway, he asked me to send him some examples of my work to be sure my style matches what he has in mind, so I'm going through what I've recorded to see what's a) good enough, b) good enough quality to be sure that I can record this stuff on a level that is acceptable for mass consumption, and c) shows that I can match the style that a Harvey Finevoice album would probably require while also showing a bit of diversity just in case.

I recommend listening to some Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Sammy Davis, Nat King Cole, etc. to get a feel for that kind of 40s-60s "crooner" music.

Groovy.

Oh, believe me, I already do, and I probably could relatively easily adapt to that style, but the problem is that little that I have recorded is in that vein, and I don't know if I'd be able to record very soon. So I'm trying to see what I have right now that's close enough.

And Secret Origins Month continues!

Another great episode, though as a Vietnamese whose grandparents fought in that war, I found it painfully hard to sit through this whole story. The combining forces of casual racism and demonizing propaganda are unbearable. Wong-Chu and Yinsen are not even actual Vietnamese names, for Christ's sake!

I love you, Stan Lee. I really do. I know it's a product of its time and you didn't know any better. But this is just terrible.

I'd like to think that in addition to being a wrestling champion, Wong-Chu was also a rock collector.

I'll admit, despite being an offensive caricature, Wong-Chu is too goofy a guy to hate. [lol]
