I think police are far too eager to kill people in general, and the fact that they often seem to perceive black people as dangerous criminals no matter what they're doing exacerbates that.

@Teufel: Regarding the Omaha PD vets quitting over overly aggressive recruits, did they provide any guesses as to what exactly changed at the academy or other parts of the recruits' backgrounds that made them that much more aggressive than previous recruits?

Indeed. This isn't going to end until something f*cking drastic happens. And no, eager anarchy enthusiasts who might be ghosting in the thread, I'm not talking about armed revolution or takeover; that solves nothing and would just get you shot.

Solving this is going to take some dramatic federal actions, including but not limited to

1. IA investigations performed by federal investigators rather than state ones.
2. Elimination of personnel and even entire departments where this behavior is commonly tolerated.
3. Actual criminal charges for officers found to be involved in these events.
4. A willingness to sidestep posse comitatus where necessary.

Anything less is just unicorn dreams and wishful thinking, because you can't reasonably expect the racist cops to be held accountable by their racist supervisors. This problem is too thoroughly ingrained in the atmosphere of these departments.

The Civil War never truly ended. It just got quieter. It's time to finish the job.

Shaun King (a Black Lives Matter activist I've mentioned a few times) has actually come up with a list of 25 practical and probably life-saving solutions for police brutality. Each and every reason comes with an entire article attached.

Of course, for any of this to be implemented, someone in a position of power would have to give a shit. So.

Of course it's three times. When it's a black person, it's always three bullets, five bullets, nine bullets.

We've talked about this before, but white people are typically shot once if at all. Even when they get back up and continue being a threat, police will put away their guns and try to wrestle.

And in the back. What was that everybody was saying about how he Was A Threat To Officer's Safety? Was the turned back of the 95-pound 13-year-old boy threatening them?

Oh, but hey, they thought he had a gun. In an open-carry state. A capital offense indeed.

Also, yeah. With white people, de-escalation and nonlethal force always seems to be the thing. With black people, they seem to actually want to kill.

Yes, actually. I remember a study being posted here about how not only are white people more intimidated by black people than whites, but that black people put through the same study came back with similar results. The prejudice of black men as superhuman race-Hulks is not limited solely to whites.

That's one of the most insidious things about systemic racism and racial prejudice. Those values can get internalized, so even members of the oppressed communities will sometimes wind up inflicting that oppression upon each other.

Another black man was killed by a black officer. Two disputing statements are that he was armed, the other that he had a book.

Some rioting, it feels a little surreal. Didn't expect it to happen in this city.

If he did have a gun...North Carolina is another open-carry state. Though let's be honest - when right-wing rednecks bellow about the right to bear arms, they're only talking about white people. I think every single black person in the country should apply for a gun permit. Don't actually buy a gun, just get a permit. And open-carry one if you can. Get an NRA membership too. That ought to scare the shit out of them - we might see a lot of mysterious and sudden push for gun control then.

Back on topic. If he had a gun, so what, such is his right. They'll say he was threatening them with it - I don't believe them until I see proof. If he didn't have a gun, then no problem, they'll just plant one on him.

Needless to say, that racism can occur between groups, such as Koreans and Japanese, or Indians and Pakistanis or between "native" Black Americans and recent Black arrivals — or between Irish and English.

Racism is never just a Black v White thing (especially outside the US).

For reference, see those two black cops they got to speak at the RNC because they've internalized the party line enough to make sweeping speeches about "BLUE Lives Matter!" and the Republicans believe that being black means they automatically discredit the #BlackLivesMatter movement.

Number of ways drugs are sent past the border fence. The implant one was pretty damn disturbing. The rest are more benign. Notice they have used cannon themed approaches several times in the past as well as catapults.

Green: Sadly something Omaha, NE has had a fair bit of experience with. A bunch of Sudanese and Somalia refugees have settled in North and South Omaha. However they were not exactly welcomed by locals. Instead we had a very sharp uptick of violence in and around those neighborhoods. Then the refugees started forming their own gangs and well lets just say the local gangs got hoist by their on petard and the city as a whole suffered. This summer was pretty bad for violence in North O.

Think police and other eyewitness conclude that the guy had a gun. Apparently the cops were serving a warrant for another dude when they noticed the now dead guy in his car.

Damn. One of my ex-teachers live there. Hopefully she's fine.
