This is the thread we use to talk things over with people who have received a suspension notice. A lot of the time the notice goes out just so we can explain how seriously we take certain things, not because we want the person to feel bad and go away.

If you're suspended, give What to Do If You Are Suspended a read, then post here to begin your appeal. We try to respond to appeals in order via batch posts every few days. If a moderator has responded to your appeal, you will receive a notification in your private messages, even if you're suspended from PMs.

The Forum Rules apply here.

Don'ts

  • Don't be rude. Rule 1 applies here, too.
  • Don't try to negotiate your suspension outside of this thread, such as by sending Private Messages to moderators or posting elsewhere. Such activity may be thumped or otherwise removed, and may warrant an additional suspension block if it keeps happening. All communications have to take place within this thread.
  • Don't respond to other suspended users. This is a place for you to discuss your suspension, not others'.
  • Don't post multiple times about your appeal if it hasn't been a few days since your last reply from us, since it makes it more difficult to compose responses. If you've posted, we're likely looking at it, and kindly request you to be more patient.
  • Don't make another account to try and get around your suspension. This is called ban evasion and will get you bounced. (Again, read What to Do If You Are Suspended if you don't know what these words mean.)

Why was I suspended?

Hello

Deleting tropes without edit reasons, Natter and adding Discussion In The Main Page that insults other tropers including a comment:

  • Are you five years old? Santa Claus is not real.

Your edit history as a whole seems to be destructive and aggressive. In light of that, why should we let you edit?

Why was I suspended over the Fallen Creator issue on Bioware, public opinion is mostly against them and there is often talk about how the company is going to sink with Star Wars The Old Republic, at this point Bioware is pretty much a fallen creator since Dragon Age 2 turned the internet's opinion against them in a nasty Internet Counterattack.

That doesn't fly. Fallen Creator is not just about a split fandom, and last I heard, all their latest titles have made money and are hugely popular. I personally know several very happy SW:TOR players.

See this note on the article: Please, only give examples where it's clear that public opinion has pretty much turned against these people and they're not thought of as highly as before. This is not meant as a Take That against creators you don't like. If you yourself think a creator has declined, but the general public still thinks highly of him/her, then don't add them as an example.

Edited:

The simple fact that someone took out your entry means that there is not universal agreement. At the very minimum you need to discuss it. If someone deletes an entry you added, the proper response is not to add it back, but to use the Discussion page, the forum, and/or PM's to converse about the matter. Otherwise you're in an Edit War.

Hello there. I'm just here to request a lift on my suspension. I know what it is for (Blanking, snide edits, taking potshots) but I genuinely do want to make some good edits. If not, I completely understand, as blanking pages isn't exactly the most beneficial of actions.

As with everyone else who comes here under these circumstances, I have to ask why you thought it was a good idea to behave that way prior to being suspended?

Simple. Because I could. That doesn't excuse the action, but it might explain it. If not, I'll elaborate. I fucked around for 2 reasons. 1). Because I absolutely detest most of the subjects I vandalized, and 2) Because of my own opinions e.g. I believed that Retsupurae's riffing on the Nostalgia Critic was a CMOA on their part. I posted it, in an opinion based part of the site, and it was deleted. Does that answer your question, People's Champion?

Oh, gee, sarcasm. How original. You know, if you really did want your privs back, there are better ways to go about it than being insulting to the staff. I'm going to just say no here on general principles, since it's clear to me that allowing you to edit again risks the same exact behavior.

You seriously thought I was being sarcastic? On 4Chan, there is a word filter that changes "mods," into "people's champions,". I like that title better than "mod," so I use it. I genuinely was not trying to be sarcastic. If you want to think that I was, fine, think that way, I can't change it. If you want me to be sarcastic and snarky, I will gladly oblige, but I assume that is not the case.

Alright. I guess we had a bit of a cultural misunderstanding here. I'm not personally familiar with 4chan but their reputation precedes them. I'm willing to allow you to edit again under the provision that you accept our standards of editing when you're on TV Tropes. That means no going on personal crusades against topics you don't like, no insulting other tropers, and always seeking consensus and/or discussion for contested changes.

Okay?

Of course my good sir. Oh, also, I cleaned up the God of War character page if that means anything. Some guy didn't add "s's" to the end of some words. Is there any reason that might have happened?

I saw that. We get some very odd grammar and spelling here from time to time. Sometimes it's non-native speakers and other times it's people with disabilities or who merely flunked grade school English. In rare cases it may be an artifact from an automated cleanup script.

If you see a pattern of bad grammar from a particular troper, feel free to mention it on Ask The Tropers and we'll take a look.

I'll go ahead and restore your editing privileges. (You won't be able to post here afterwards, but feel free to participate elsewhere on the forums.)

Good day, Admin Team. While my handle name right now is NJB02, I actually used to go by the name Chris X. And yesterday, I found out that I was edit-banned (and my ChrisX handle was not even allowed to see this topic).

I tried reading about Vandalism afterwards and then I realized about making things more self-demonstrating and edited lots of voice actors' pages in their header and footer quotes to reflect their roles, while referring to this very wiki. But then I came across to the page Ryusei Nakao... and changed the header and footer like this:

I think I went overboard thus people reported me for vandalism. I meant no harm in this as I really didn't know that this is such a heavy crime. I was merely trying to follow the other examples of other Voice Actor pages which used modified quotes and traits of the characters they voiced, but it seemed that I crossed the line. As a result, many of my edits, some of them just adding examples, was reverted by the system as if they never existed, and some of my forum post was replaced with "Troll post removed".

I apologize for this, and I hope that my edit ban (for Chris X) will be lifted so I can edit again, and bring this to either Ask The Tropers or Trope Repair Shop in regards of referencing to roles about actors, drawing the line between mere referencing or vandalizing into Self-Demonstrating Article.

If the reason why I was banned was not the one I described above, please tell me so I do not repeat this mistake again.

This is a really good site and I've been here for years, and I really like it. So I hope I don't have to take a permanent leave. I'm sorry for my mistakes and I promise I'll do better.

Thank you.

Best regards, ChrisX/NJB02

Okay, I took the time to look over your edits and yes, that is precisely why you were banned. While we seek to be informal in the sense that you don't need to follow the strict editing policies of Wikipedia, or be a college-educated grammarian and cite all your sources, that does not mean that we want pages filled with in-jokes and attempts to be witty at the expense of clarity.

Your edits looked very much like a pattern of intentional vandalism, and we don't tolerate that — it's a one strike policy when it comes to such things. Fast Eddie decided you were not interested in playing by any kind of rules and decided to Un-person you. While he, admittedly, has a tendency to attack problems like this with a sledgehammer, we've been subject to a number of deliberate vandal attacks and the staff collectively have zero tolerance for it.

You seem sincere about it being a prank rather than a deliberate attack on the wiki. However, I'm going to have to review your case with the other moderators before arriving at a decision.

Okay, after conversation with the other moderators, we've decided to lift your ban. Both Chris X and NJB 02 may now edit and post freely in the wiki and forums. Thanks for being willing to understand the rules.

I think I made. A misunderstanding with Fighteer. The last post said I would. Get help from the English thread. And I would be allowed to edit again.

I didn't say you would be allowed to edit again, just that the only way you could is if you visit that thread and show improvement. That post just now does not give me much hope. You are breaking your sentences in completely incorrect places.

I told you what to do. Repeatedly. But instead you insist on making edit requests via PM's and generally failing to understand anything we ask of you. I have not seen you post in the Help with English thread even once. So this is not going to work. Bye.

We don't let people use disabilities as an excuse for poor edits here, not really. I also have ADHD and Asperger's, and plenty of other tropers have disabilities. The fact of the matter is, it might not be your fault that you have a tough time making acceptable edits, but it's not the fault of a non-native english speaker if they make poor edits, either. Both groups can get edit banned, if they don't get help.

By help I'm referring to something like running edits through the Help with English thread before making them. Give me a minute to check something.

EDIT: Yup, you were initially banned from just the wiki and given a chance to come here to talk, and 20 days later the whole package came down on you. When that happens, we really ARE saying we don't want you here. Sorry!
