Edit banned/Suspended - would like to edit again.:

This is the thread we use to talk things over with people who received a suspension notice. A lot of the time the notice goes out just so we can explain how seriously we take certain things, not because we want the person to feel bad and go away.

For a fun site, we're pretty fussy about stuff like grammar and spelling, for example. More than you would expect, considering that we do want the funny. Everything is better with the funny.

Leave a note here indicating you want to talk the suspension over, then hang in there for a bit. A moderator will be along to talk to you about the situation.

NOTE: If you see another banned person post something that you want to comment on, don't. This thread is for discussion between banned people and Mods - no third parties invited.

While you're at it, browse What to Do If You Are Suspended.

I would like the record to show that I regret nothing. This community is pretty shitty anyway.

I don't understand why I'm being ignored.
Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel.
Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.
>@Justin - I don't think you quite understand what I'm saying. It doesn't matter how wrong the other guy was or if he was breaking the rules, too. That only works in preschool.

If someone else won't stop edit warring, then you let the staff know, either via PM or through Ask The Tropers. Someone else breaking the rules is not an excuse for you to do the same.

I didn't think bringing staff into an argument as stupid as this was a good idea.

I never even knew that tv tropes had rules. Can I please edit again?

@rodney: We're reluctant to overrule The Fast One, and he probably missed your earlier posts.

@Justin: If you don't bring the staff in, it just turns into a endurance match for who can be the most stubborn. That's no way to get good work done.

@kirbystarwarrior: Can you explain why "I don't find them heartwarming" doesn't count as an acceptable reason for deleting entries?
I'm bad, and that's good. I will never be good, and that's not bad. There's no one I'd rather be than me.

@Magnum 12: I looked into the history, and it does seem to be that we had a misunderstanding. Please use edit reasons next time you do the actual work, okay? Not everyone is going to know what is going on when something is seemingly deleted.

Still waiting for a decision. My appeal's on page 18.

@Iron Eye

I just didn't think they were heartwarming. The entries I deleted were (In my view) funny instead of heartwarming, or just pointless to put on it. And like I said before, I didn't know tv tropes had rules, and boundaries besides deleting pages as a whole.

You are aware that "heartwarming" is subjective, yes? Just because you don't find something heartwarming doesn't mean that it objectively isn't.
I'm bad, and that's good. I will never be good, and that's not bad. There's no one I'd rather be than me.
@Ironeye And I didn't know that. I didn't know the heartwarming entry was subjective until now. Like I said before, I don't know the rules of tv tropes.

Alright, I've let you back in. Make sure to go ahead and read the rules—you're not going to get a third chance.

Hi, I cant edit anything for some reason. I think I might have mispelled something somewheres or used improper grammar. It is also possible someone didnt like my Naruto review. Please help so I can keep contributing. Thanks.

According the the ban notice, you were banned for being a vandal. Sound familiar?

I think the last thing I did was write character descriptions for K On or something similar- they were apt descriptions you must admit. Someone disagreed and banned me on the spot instead of telling me why they thought why my description was wrong. I did not use bad language so maybe I didn't dot a t. Ive watched a lot of K On though so I'm not a newb to the manga. Weird.

Hello

I just found out editing has been turned off for me.

Is there any reason why? I have no idea why it was.

The last few posts I made were rock less springtime of youth's YMMV page and Internet backdraft/politics

You were edit warring and removing tropes from a YMMV page.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away.

@shimaspawn

edit waring? or were you talking to the troper above me?

I really wasn't informed of any reason why my editing was shut off. All it said was "Sorry, Editing has been turned off for you." This is the first time it's happened for me

I didn't remove any tropes on a YMMV page, and I don't know what edit waring is. But if I get my editing ability back I'll make sure not to do it again

edited 7th Apr '12 3:05:38 PM by anoni

if that's not what I got my editing shut off for, what was it then?

Hello, I think I've been suspended, owing to the fact that I keep getting a message saying "Sorry, editing has been turned off for you."

Other than that, I've received no particular warning, or ultimately a reason for exactly Why I seem to have been suspended. Why was I suspended? I would like to appeal this.

Particularly because I was given no reason or warnings or something. I haven't been involved in any ugly flame wars.

I have received a PM about adding too much to "The Sociopath", which admittedly was way to much info and should have been in notes, but none of this was a warning about suspension.

In general I do tend to make long entries, but my general idea was that if people didn't like it or think it was up to standards, it would just be removed (its not like I fought to keep anything in).

Please, I haven't been fighting anyone and would *gladly* follow the admins reprimands, its just that I was never specifically reprimanded or warned about anything in particular. If I had been, I'd follow whatever instructions I'm given. I'm not looking for trouble, just a guy who likes his TV shows.

@arcsin: Does this look familiar, in respect to Characters.KOn? "but gradually gets reduced to a pedophile who stalks the girls and forces them to dress up in fetish clothes. Is possibly a lesbian."

Oh, and Characters.Sora No Otoshimono: "The typical boring high school student who just wants a quiet life. Slightly differentiated from every other harem lead by the fact that instead of being a celibate virgin, he's actually perverted. The only problem being that he's not perverted as in lovable leech pervert, he's perverted as in registered sex offender pervert."

So, yeah, what in balls made you think those were ever the kind of edit we'd want on this wiki? I'm honestly not sure why Eddie even allowed you to post to appeal; I suppose there's at least a slight chance that you were genuinely ignorant instead of a deliberate troll...

@anoni: I'm going to guess it was adding back They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot to YMMV.Digimon Xros Wars The Young Hunters Leaping Through Time, although I'll be honest, it looks like there was a lot of edit warring over that, and Eddie didn't say precisely which thing he suspended you for (something he needs to work on). I'll help check.

@Remember5th O November: Ah yes, you. I had to cut something like 10 paragraphs of prattle from The Sociopath, most (but not all) of which you added. I wanted to talk to you about it. I think you misunderstand what we're here for — we want to talk about tropes and their use in media. We don't want to engage in pages and pages of psychoanalysis better suited for a research paper. Nobody wants to read that. Okay? Promise to lay off and I'll restore your privileges.

@Fighteer

Really? I thought he removed They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot because it wasn't explained why it was a waste of a good plot. So I explained why people feeled that way. Thank you for checking up on it.

Well, for lack of a decent explanation why, you're off the hook. Restored, with apologies.

Still waiting.

Yes, I won't do that again. Even I gaped at the page when I was done and realized it was far too long, I just figured the mods would delete it if it broke rules (which they did, and I didn't fight to restore it or something). I'll keep things shorter and descriptive.
