Go To

This is the thread we use to talk things over with people who have received a suspension notice. A lot of the time the notice goes out just so we can explain how seriously we take certain things, not because we want the person to feel bad and go away.

If you're suspended, give What to Do If You Are Suspended a read, then post here to begin your appeal. We try to respond to appeals in order via batch posts every few days. If a moderator has responded to your appeal, you will receive a notification in your private messages, even if you're suspended from PMs.

The Forum Rules apply here.

Don'ts

  • Don't be rude. Rule 1 applies here, too.
  • Don't try to negotiate your suspension outside of this thread, such as by sending Private Messages to moderators or posting elsewhere. Such activity may be thumped or otherwise removed, and may warrant an additional suspension block if it keeps happening. All communications have to take place within this thread.
  • Don't respond to other suspended users. This is a place for you to discuss your suspension, not others'.
  • Don't post multiple times about your appeal if it hasn't been a few days since your last reply from us, since it makes it more difficult to compose responses. If you've posted, we're likely looking at it, and kindly request you to be more patient.
  • Don't make another account to try and get around your suspension. This is called ban evasion and will get you bounced. (Again, read What to Do If You Are Suspended if you don't know what these words mean.)

Dear TV Tropes.

Miku Angel Voice here.

Just then I received an Edit-Ban. I think I can guess why I got it: My flamboyant use of coarse language and excessive harshness in the Hunger Games Pages, most likely.

I think I took the "We are Buttloads More Informal than Wikipedia" and "Breezy" commments too literally, and for that I apologize. If let back onto the forums, I will stop swearing like a sailor and being excessively mean towards morally ambiguous characters from here on. Once again I apologise. If your forgiveness can be given, I would be much obliged. Sincerely Miku Angel Voice

Miku, what we mean by "informal" does not imply locker room trash talk. I'm sorry if you got that impression. Really, you'd think that simple observation of our articles would make it clear that we don't welcome such things, even if not all articles are fully up to our standard.

Informal means that you don't need to sound like you're writing for Wikipedia or the Encyclopedia Brittanica. It doesn't mean blasting works you disapprove of with nattery Take Thats.

Please look at the articles Conversation In The Main Page and Rule Of Cautious Editing Judgement. Those are our Holy Grails, so to speak. There may be a test later.

Where (which thread) would I take the test in?

That was a joke. I suppose I could whip one up for you if you really want, but in truth the question is: if I lift your suspension, will I see you back here in a week for the same behavior?

No Sir/Ms.

As the pages you directed me towards indicated, from now on, treat this as a relaxing walk on the tightropes.

As in "By all means wave to the crowd" (A benign opinion that does not hurt anyone else, and at worst self-deprecating humor) but NOT middle-fingering the crowd left right and center (flame-bait/trolling) so they start throwing tomatoes back at you and knock you off the tightrope into ban-dom.

I'll walk the benign tightrope from henceforth.

The goal is to have the main wiki speak to the reader with a single voice and to have that voice be neutral to slightly positive in tone. It reflects badly on us when we make mean-spirited digs at works or their authors.

I will lift the suspension on the condition that you complete a homework assignment: namely, go back over your edit history (here) and clean up any edits you made that weren't already removed or corrected by other tropers. Agreed?

I don't know; I didn't look much past the first few entries on your history, because the problem was blatantly obvious. You should hopefully have a sense by now of what we do and don't permit. Go ahead and get started and post in Wiki Talk or send me a PM if you have questions — you won't be able to post here again once I lift the suspension.

If you have a previous banned account, you're not allowed to make a new one. Very few exceptions have ever been made to this rule, and they've all had to be approved by the mods.

To answer your second question, I'll take the liberty to correct your sentence:

Why (note the capital letter) do you say (word order) that my English sucks even when (I presume you meant) some of you don't have English as your native language?

(There were so many things wrong with the end there that I didn't even list the errors.)

As you can see, your English isn't good enough to have in a Wiki.

I took a look at some of your Wiki edits; they're full of mistakes, too.

"The problem with the Lady Gaga edit is that you made the WMG about Lady Gaga. Her real or imagined sexual predilections are not tropes." See there is a problem here, because if you take the time to read the page, you would see that there are other WMG that are not tropes. I was giving a WMG about the character of Lady Ga Ga, not Stefani Germnotta. Or have you not heard of the "trope" some artists use where they create personas.

Personally, the reason I was reported was for the TROLL comments. We both know that. Coming up with your inane reasons is just that. Don't come up with some false pretense to ban me. Because other tropes I've added to other pages were not removed. Other comments people have written about the artist themselves haven't been removed from tropes either.

Examples:

  • Ascended Fangirl: Gaga admits to "falling to the floor crying and laughing" when she heard Brian May would be playing Guitar on "YoĆ¼ and I".
    • This is clearly about Stefani Germanotta. Not just Lady Gaga. Nor is this a trope about her art.

  • ''Attention Whore: Or as she puts it, "fame hooker prostitute wench."

    • Noted in her habit of releasing something new every single time Britney Spears gets something out. Almost always since her debut...(the exception to this rule being Born This Way's album delay)''
      • Wow that one is just inappropriate, and a person should have been warned Wait... er, I'm the one that's banned. Not the point.
  • Large Ham: While not as apparent in public appearances (save some performances) at her concerts she goes crazy.
    • What is this? Someone's opinion???

Smarks: Her fans tend to be divided into two groups. Those who only listen to her albums and watch her videos and like her because she's so much fun, and those who see her perform unplugged and like her because she's a well-trained pianist and a fantastic singer.

  • This is another opinion, yet better hidden than the other.

On wild mass guess

"Lady Gaga worships Satan openly and uses blatant Masonic symbolism." This seems personally about Gaga and not a trope.

"Lady Gaga is Sailor Mars." This seems personally about Gaga and not a trope.

"Lady Gaga is the reincarnation of Klaus Nomi." This seems personally about Gaga and not a trope.

"Lady Gaga is the latest person to find the supercomputer from Jem, Synergy." This seems personally about Gaga and not a trope.

"Lady Gaga is an extraterrestrial" This seems personally about Gaga and not a trope.

"Lady Gaga is an Avatar of God." This seems personally about Gaga and not a trope.

"If Lady Gaga is proof we're living in a distopian cyberpunk future, Ke$ha is proof that it's low budget." This isn't a trope at all.

"Lady Gaga's plan is working." This seems personally about Gaga and not a trope.

Arguments you could make: It's offensive! I read the page about offensive matter before I wrote it (a-ha!) and it was not offensive by those standards

It's not a trope. I guess south park is the most creative & innovative show on television? Are you really going to take that bet?

It's about Lady Gaga Yeah Lady Gaga isn't real. She's a persona of Stefani Germonatta. Other celebs have personas too, like Norma Jean with Marilyn Monroe. You should look into personas! You think that'd be a trope... huh.

So exactly when is a trope created? Are we now to discuss the idea of what a trope actually is? I mean, writing on WMG lady gaga might be a coprophiliac had nothing to do with banning me, and it didn't even have to do with a warning. The fact that I didn't describe poop or what goes into being a coprophiliac even adds to the point. It's ridiculous that these rules work for some people and they don't for others.

The point is, they work for the people who complain. And only if someone complains are these elementary rules enforced. If you're going to put up these rules and expect someone like me, who is about average intelligence, read your rules before you demanded I read them, and understands logic and reason to follow rules directly in opposition to what is posted allover the pages, you have to get a lot more administrators, or whatever the fuck you call yourselves.

I was only banned because someone complained. Obviously I have no problem whether I'm unbanned after the fact or I wouldn't be explaining how flawed your website is by directly showing descriptions of celebrities (who are not fictional) and telling someone they can't do it when thousands of others have done it on many other celebrity pages. Time to get to correcting people. Months of data to erase! Good thing I showed you some on the Gaga page! :)

And we add yet another person to the full ban list. He is right at least in that we do have a lot of work to do in cleaning up all the garbage he and people of like minds left in our articles.

I look at it on the bright side: some folks make it really easy to tell if they're going to behave or not.

Oh, that... It was an honest mistake as a result of being an idiot and not reading the YTTKW Guidelines well enough. I missed the part about "Don't launch unless it says that it is up for grabs". I saw that it followed the 3RulesOf3, had 5 hats, and looked good and complete (at least to my untrained eye).

Bisected8 PM'd me about it and I realize my mistake now.

Took a few days to clear my head and cool off and would like to apologize for losing my head on the Fo RKS page. I've been taught how to debate properly, and what I did was Not It. I let myself get riled up, and I should know better by now. From now on I'll keep my opinions to myself and off the wiki, and avoid the cutlery pages to boot. *shamefaced* May I please edit again?

@Fighteer I didn't know the rules, and I thought that a lot of the things on the page weren't heartwarming. The people who warned me told me that I should give reasons, so one of the times I took it down I said, 'I do not find these entries heartwarming.' I didn't even know tv tropes had rules.

I post here to appeal my edit ban. Seems it was over some stuff in the pantheon. Thing is, I wasn't actually removing anything, I was merely relocating them. As a matter of fact, I asked about it in the discussion section and it was considered a good idea, especially since we did not have any houses relating to religion and leadership tropes. I even gave advance warning NOT to panic, explaining what I was doing before hand. I can even identify the ones I moved, believing them to fit more with the two new houses.

Reasons for my actions: 1. There was a big mess over the GUAG section (combat division IIRC) over a big clog that screwed up ability to add more which had to be solved by creating a new sub section (super hero division). I saw that the House of Heroes and Villains and House of Mentalism were getting rather huge, and was concerned that the same thing could happen again, so I focused my efforts there. To quote Sun Tzu, it is better to stop a problem quickly and silently before it gets noticed than to let it become large.

2. As mentioned earlier in my appeal, there are trope types that really need their own house (faith and leadership) as they are poor fits in other houses.

Geez, to suffer Disproportionate Retribution over what was essentially a nice, well intentioned act.
