Plus Artoria was already used in the Fate/Zero dub, so there's no reason for them switch names all of a sudden. This is the kind of practice that was commonplace with translators in the 80s, not the 2010s.

Irrelevant, but I finished the seven main Kara no Kyoukai movies the other night. And you know how even-numbered Star Trek movies are the "good" ones and vice versa? I felt the opposite with KnK.

I no longer want dubs of other Fate stuff. Every time I hear "Altria" I instinctively get revenge to punch something and a whole anime of that would become unbearable.

Altria is also the name of an obscure goddess and has no actual connection with Arthur.

The pronunciation only changes in the English language, they're close enough in Japanese

He wasn't redeemed at all. More specifically he was saved from his own sins or whatever. He was a terrible person through and through. Him being saved is less "Gilles was redeemed" and more "Jeanne is a saint"

It was but my point still stands. There's nothing wrong with updating a bad translation (In this case Artoria which may be a real name but doesn't sound like one.) to a good translation (In this case Altria which actually sounds like a real name even if it's not.).

Except Altria doesn't sound like a real name even though it is, whereas Artoria does sound like a real name AND IS a real name.

Even putting aside whether or not it is / is not a real name (it is), I honestly don't see how anyone, aside from people who don't understand English, can look at "Altria" and think it's supposed to be a variation of Arthur. At all.

x4 and x2 Are you serious? I would buy someone being named Altria before I ever bought the name Artoria even if the latter is a real name while the former is fake.

I never tried to claim that Altria is derived from Author because it isn't. My argument is that to me it sounds more like a real name than Artoria and thus is a better translation.

This is not the Type Moon hill I want to die on

There has been one thing what I have been wondering a bit and that is about the Moon. More specifically, if all the things in the Moon might relate to different Moon-related mythos. There are multiple gods of the Moon, few myths have people who live in there like Chang'e and the lunar people from Tale of the Bamboo Cutter etc. Maybe there has been some lore what I haven't read yet, but you get the idea.

the Moon is a very powerful symbol and concept in folklore and mythology, especially Japan, so of course Nasu will milk it for all it’s worth

I just think it’s funny that Type Moon cosmology is really ancient aliens conspiracy except I totally buy it
