I discovered the show pretty early in its run. The episode that got me into the show was Robot Holocaust, which I guess I caught during the last time that CC showed it. After having gone back and re-watched those early episodes, it’s clear that RH was by far the strongest of the first season.

I caught Catalina Caper a bit later on. It cemented my fandom of this show.

"Your weapons have no effect on me, but they scare the crap out of me anyway!"

I didn't write any of that.

I got to see Cinematic Titanic this past Friday. If you are a MSTie and it comes to your area, go. It is basically live-action MST 3 K and it is hilarious.

It is, in fact, amazing. Did J. Elvis and the Freaks And Geeks guidance councilor guy do the "Year of the Cat" thing when you went?

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.

Yes. Yes they did. It was hilarious. We also got a few poems from Trace's new book.

[up]And Joel did his newspaper trick, I assume?

I pray to god this stuff made it on one of the DVDs. The "Year of the Cat" rap specifically is one of the best damn things I've ever seen and riffing in it's most impressive form.

Sadly, no, we did not get the newspaper trick. I'd like to hear about this one...getting back to Joel's roots as a stand-up magician, I assume?

[up]He ripped up a newspaper into itty bitty bits and claimed he could put it all back together in one piece, but in a tongue-in-cheek sort of way that had us thinking the conclusion would be totally ludicrous.

He squished all the pieces together at the end and said he'd put it back together. Laughs. Applause.

And then he produced the whole newspaper, in one solid piece, seemingly from nowhere. Standing o.

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.

Hey fellow MSTies...there's a movement afoot to move the MST 3 K-based tropes to their own episode guide, separate from the movies themselves. Discussion is here. New MST 3 K recap page is here.

Any and all help is appreciated, be it moving the MST 3 K tropes to the episode pages, adding details like host segments, etc.

Hey there! Somewhat new to the MST fandom. Is there any "essential episodes" that I should totally try to find?

[up] Pod People, The Final Sacrifice, Manos: The Hands of Fate, Invasion of the Neptune Men and Pumaman are all cited as some of the great episodes. My personal recommendations are Lost Continent and Jack Frost.

Looking for some stories?

The two Christmas episodes, Santa Claus Conquers the Martians and Santa Claus, are also classics.

I didn't write any of that.

Prince Of Space, Quest Of The Delta Knights, and Merlins Shop Of Mystical Wonders are what introduced me to the series.

A bit late to the party but The Magic Voyage of Sinbad is one of my all-time favs, as is Hobgoblins. I also second Santa Claus and the Gamera films. Most of the shorts are quite fun, too.

I've been watching MST3K a lot recently. I'm going in order, so I'm starting with the first season - I'm skipping movies that aren't horror/sci-fi, though I watched the cold-war propaganda film.

I prefer Joel to Mike, but I think Space Mutiny is the best episode.

Any other MSTies planning on going to the live Rifftrax on October 25th for Birdemic? I went to the Manos one in August and it was outstanding!

[up]We had old reference guides? I know there was a section on the most obscure references in the Amazing Colossal Episode Guide, and MST3KInfo's episode guides would occasionally tip their hat to one or two, but I'm relatively sure we haven't had anything on this scale before, let alone a site exclusively meant for explaining the jokes.

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.
