So this started a few weeks ago.
It's up there with Lackadaisy Cats in terms of art quality, and the insect character designs aren't all that disconcerting if you don't like creepy crawlies.
I kept seeing art of that pop up on deviantart. Was wondering what the source was....
Really? Insects with human hair? I hate to keep harping about this, but come on!
So you're cool with giving animals human head and limb proportions, but hair is silly?
Can also be Hand Waved with the existence of actually fuzzy insects and saying the genes spread around or something.
Or just treating stuff like that as bizarre alien biology, because that's basically what it is.
Well actually, I'm not crazy about human head and limb proportions either.
<shrug> Eh, personally, I can deal with both more and less.
If a not-real-creature character design looks nice, then that's excuse enough.
And that includes both manga mantises and cartoon pandas and anything in between.
Though it is nice to see people at least attempt to make the critters look like what clearly inspired them.
Too many artists draw their dogs, cats and whatever all the same.

I understand. It's never a deal-breaker for me, but definitely a turnoff. I just can't wrap my head around that kind of thing at all, which breaks the immersion for me. It probably shouldn't bother me so much, but it does.
"cartoon pandas" Well, I see you know what fandom I'm into.

Looks like Star Fox the Animated Series got hit by Nintendo. It's now "A Fox in Space."
this is in fact true! unfortunate but not unexpected.
"Coffee! Coffeecoffeecoffee! Coffee! Not as strong as Meth-amphetamine, but it lets you keep your teeth!"Not surprised
You know, I would be bugged (heh) by the whole mantis-with-hair thing if the art weren't so damned pretty. But yeah, wow, is that pretty. I hope the story's decent...
Similarly pertinent to the thread: I recently read a few articles by Mouse over on the Hooded Utilitarian comics blog that may be of interest to folks here. A few delve into NSFW territory, seeing as at least one of them is about the stigma associated with the more overtly sexual aspects of the furry fandom, so no direct links, alas, but the righteous indignation is bracing without ever feeling particularly over-the-top or misdirected.
I'll hide your name inside a word and paint your eyes with false perception.Just about everything ever would focus on the smutty part of things when talking about any group. It wouldn't attract some attention if they didn't, even if everyone knows it's mostly not true.
Try imagining how far the universe extends! Keep thinking about it until you go insane. That's not quite the point of the article. It's a slightly more interesting proposition than that.
I'll hide your name inside a word and paint your eyes with false perception.So. Saw Zootopia today. Very good movie, I heartily recommend it.
Also, I found out Kazerad (of Prequel fame) made this : [1]◊

Worldbuilding is fun, writing is a choreSeconding Zootopia (or "Zootropolis" as it was renamed here, even in the english dub) recommendations. Very good movie even if you are not a furry.
Also good to see that the characters being animals was plot relevant and wasn't done "just because" or to use Animal Stereotypes for gags only.
Anyhow, on the renaming thing, feels like another Philosopher's/Sorceror's Stone deal with how the scenes when the city name is mentioned seem un-edited. Well, this being animation, it's not as much as "re-taken" as much as "re-made" but you get the point.
So that's why I keep seeing it called Zootropolis. That's an odd change...and kind of missing the point a little, but no big deal.
It already seems to be the year of furry movies with this, KFP3, Sing, and the Sly Cooper and Ratchet and Clank movies coming later. I guess Norm of the North too, but let's not talk about that one...

fucking looooved Zootopia. Finnick was criminally underused. and Mr. Manchas was adorable.
"Coffee! Coffeecoffeecoffee! Coffee! Not as strong as Meth-amphetamine, but it lets you keep your teeth!"I went to the theater and I was not once embarrassed about being a twenty something in there without a kid. Good time.
I showed up in my Lion Shirt just to reinforce the reason I was watching the movie :P
"Coffee! Coffeecoffeecoffee! Coffee! Not as strong as Meth-amphetamine, but it lets you keep your teeth!"Nice shirts.
By the way, here's some more Zootopia fanart◊. (spoilers)

Worldbuilding is fun, writing is a choreAh, I was wondering when this thread would pick up so I can finally ask this question.
Now, I'm not a Furry, myself (at least, I don't consider myself one), but I have a question that I feel only a Furry could answer.
Namely, do you think that there's a real stigma surrounding Anthro-populated media?
I ask because I recently had an idea for a book setting (which I detailed on the World-Building forum a couple weeks ago) which was Anthro-populated, but I kept worrying about the whole thing being 'viable' or if people would just write it off because it's about animal-people. Though I would assume this would apply to just about any piece of anthro-populated media.note

"If you think like a child, you will do a child's work."I don't think so. The furry stigma is mostly an internet thing. There is a number of furry comics that exist already (Blacksad, Albedo, Usagi Yojimbo to name a few) which, while rather obscure, aren't labelled AFAIK "for kids" or "for weirdos".
Worldbuilding is fun, writing is a choreIt's still important to keep that in mind, though. Nerds on the internet will automatically snark at your setting.
If it's good, though, ultimately it doesn't matter.
I've been deep in Pokken all day, but here's another fight with (almost) no humans, as played by the Best Friends Zaibatsu.
imo it's pretty much generic kemono: the fighter, but it's pretty good.
