Lower level stuff is much more forgiving by design. (When I was first leveling I ran some of the dungeons with 3 archers and an arcanist + tank pet). When people talk about class balance they're talking about level 50+ and mostly 8+ man endgame stuff.

@ Elle

Exactly. Low level stuff is meant to ease players into the swing of things. Level 50 to 60 content is when you should know your role and how the job should be played.

Even so, most of the standard dungeons from 50 on are pretty forgiving. The only exception off the top of my head would be Demon Wall, before they nerfed it and everyone was OP. Glad they did nerf it though, because fuck those flies or bees or whatever they were.

Is anyone else disappointed the Samurai artifact gear went for a wandering ronin kimono outfit rather then an armored look?

I guess I'll be glamouring my Amatsu gear and new years kabutos. Or maybe I should get the Doman striking set now...

Like everything else in Final Fantasy lately it's all about nostalgia. In this case, it's basically Auron's outfit with the serial numbers filed off.

Not even mad, though. Guy's got a good design.

I kinda like it, reminds me of Auron. But yeah, I prefer actual armour too, and as you point out, there are glamour options for that already.

Yeah, I was kinda eh first, but Final Fantasy's had a very strong love of the "drifter Samurai" look, before Auron if I recall right.

It's also a trope I see a lot in general, the disheveled wandering Samurai who has absolutely no care for their personal appearance or their armor because they're so badass they don't need it. Wonder if there's a page for that with how much you see it around besides the Rōnin trope.

Rōnin is a trope I guess? [nja]'d

It's kind of weird that the artwork for the job doesn't have the helmet equipped though. I dig that hat a lot.

I am excited for us to finally be getting a Roegadyn in our main cast though. I'm hoping Gengetsu is cool.

Interview from Fanfest, bunch of prudent information to be shared about the future of the game.

Not gonna lie, I'm smirking at the idea of a Switch version, I couldn't see Nintendo being as pissy about sharing servers with Sony as Microsoft has been

Nintendo would probably be much more willing to play ball with crossplatform servers.

Interesting that they point out that Doma has a different culture then Kurgane and Hingashi so I'm excited to see what aspects of Japanese culture Doma itself looks like if Kurgane is a combination Edo, Pre-Edo and Post Edo Japan.

Also they specifically went for the wandering Ronin asthetic over the armored samurai one, probably to better illustrate that its a DPS rather then tank.

I hope it has some moves from Cyan.

I have a message from another time...

I mean whatever is borrowed from Cyan would probably be kind of in name only due to the primative graphics.

They have shown his Tsubame Gaeshi in the gameplay demonstration.

Random question about the tropes on the character page

With Samurai and Red Mage starting at level 50 as full jobs, following in the steps of the HW Jobs, does it even the gap between them and the launch classes/Jobs enough that all five would no longer count as a Mechanically Unusual Class?

I was wondering what percentage of usual to unusual would count before the unusual becomes usual... er... if that makes sense, and trimming it to unambiguous examples like Arcanist's odd-man out 2 jobs 1 class or Ninja's mudras

It'll be 5 out of 13, so it doesn't sound like it's quite out of that territory yet, but that's just my opinion.

Edit: Wait, it's 14, forgot to count Scholar and Summoner differently.

5/13 is 38%. I think anything over a third can't be called "unusual".

3.55a brought in the Proto-Ultima fight...as a replacement trash in Dun Scaith.

Needles to say, people aren't pleaed.

Well, considering it's in an easily puggable content, I wouldn't expect it to be difficult or that challenging.

it's replacement trash in one of the 24 man raids that are almost never difficult.

You don't put a super boss in the middle of an established raid unless they're off to the side and optional, which this could of been I guess, but whatever.

Though I wonder why it's even in the raid to begin with?

I've seen a theory floated that it'll show up in a different 24-man raid each week. That'd be pretty cool, although there's no real proof that's the case yet.

I don't know anything about Proto-Ultima really, but I assumed it would be a new Trial in itself.

I find the fight more exciting than the mob it replaces, and it has some tricks up its sleeve that I enjoy. It is incongruous with the area, though. Well, unless you consider the origins of the void, but that's still a stretch.

I enjoy the fight, it's as much as visual spectacle as Ultima was, the dodging is fun, and the DPS checks are forgiveable but I can see groups failing them

I'm sad we didn't get it as its own trial, but at this point it's one of those "Eh" things, I'm glad it's there but it wasn't what I thought it was

As an aside, could we get a mod to unlock the main works page? It's annoying me that the information for Stormblood is still super outdated, but I can't fit it because it's still locked from when the page limit was reached and we broke it into sub-pages
