Yeah, Garuda in the main story is a massive roadblock for many. Not sure if people are even fighting her at that stage right now.

Both of my alts are in the post-Stone Vigil leadup to Garuda.

Mandatory 5 man dungeons with legitimately tough bosses as a part of the main story are really going to bite them in the ass if and when the game's popularity falls off.

Well, the Low Level Duty Roulette seems to help in that regard (when it's not being friggin' Halatali Roulette, anyways)

4 man dungeons you mean. And Square is already trying to combat the lack of older players in older content by forcing them to do low level dungeons and FATE through the Atma and Novus system.

The reccomendation I got for Garuda was to wait till lv 45 and do your class quest for gear, which will be better than any you can buy at this point as far as feet, legs, hands and hat. Pick a nice chestpiece (the Colliseum set from Dezamel Darkhold is popular, if a little Chainmail Bikini....ok, a little because of that, but good crafted is fine too) and fill out jewelry appropriate to your role. Then go look up a guide because Garuda in all her forms is a very mechanics-heavy fight and those sorts of fights are not kind to random parties.

[up][up]Oh man. Numerous days where I've gotten Haukee Manor both for low and high level (hard mode) roulette has made me generally sick of Haukee Manor. (Halitali, Brayflox and Copperbell's HM are different enough, IMO, that they don't provoke the same reaction in me; Copperbell is currently one of my favorite hardmode dungeons, even though it's one of the ones that's rough on people that don't know what they're doing.)

[up] I got all the BLM gear from that quest as well as a the level 45 woolen chestpiece (if it helps)

And I know the mechanics (Being wipes multiple times tend to do much for the muscle memory). I'll check the Jewellery and see If I;m ready for it.

Well then the next biggest hurdle will be finding a group that knows the ropes or are at least reasonably intelligent and willing to stick it out until you clear. (I honestly got pretty much carried by my FC, not because I did badly but because they were well ahead of me in progression and knew exactly what they were doing so we were one and done, so my memories of story mode have mostly been overwritten by Extreme mode.)

Then get ready for the grind to 50, because there's no story quest between levels 47 and 49. You might consider picking up one or two of the beast tribe arcs to fill the void between dungeons.

I've found that I leveled a lot faster since they introduced roulette to the game. My first character, Farron, reached the endgame before roulette was implemented, and I remember having to grind a little to reach lv50 to allow me to do the final quests. Sparrow, however, reached lv50 shortly before the final quests, and I just did Titan NM with Galion last night. That's a lv34 fight, and Galion is currently lv41. He's going to hit 50 well before the last set of quests.

And yeah, being in a good Free Company helps a lot if you're still doing story mode stuff at this stage. The Company I'm in, I think I mentioned, has many nice people who are usually willing to help out. Many of them seem to be going through the story for the first time as well, or have alts who are, not just me.

I've gotten to the point where I need an FC to really progress further. I could probably do the first 4 turns of the Coil with a PUG, but Titan-Ex is a serious problem for me, and I've heard bad things about T5. As for T6-9... I don't think that appeals to me just yet, really.

[up]x5 Agreed on the Coliseum armor - my White Mage rocked the Coliseum Shawl from 44 to 50, which means for most of that time, he was running around in a sport bra and hotpants. But hey, there ARE girls on the Internet, and they need their fanservice too :p

(plus I still had Black Mage and Scholar / Summoner to go, so that piece got a lot of use)

Be sure to use everything that allows EXP boosts as much as you can.

Okay So I reconciled with one of the Party Members from the initial Dezmael Darkhold Rage Quit run I mentioned. Gotten the Chainmail Bikini mentioned earlier and cleared the Dungeon at Level 46 (Though I died to two of the three bosses before my party death the finishing blow, the latest of such a streak that began with Titan)

People will want you to skip the cutscenes. They may even take on the bosses without you if you do watch them. Just as a warning.

If they kick you for watching cutscenes, though, that's against the rules and you can report them for it.

Yeah, first time I ran it the dumbasses engaged ...first boss? Or second, I forget, while me and my GF were watching cutscenes.

Unfortunately for them, we had both tanks and the good healer queue with us along with about two other people in our FC, so once the cutscene ended we got to watch two poor schmucks try to fight the boss alone. Best part is the dumbass who led the charge then decided it would be a good idea to deride the one person who went in to help them.

[up] Really Wow! [lol] Anyway I decided to go for the Party finder for the Very Definitely Final Dungeon because of that. Also skipped the shorter non-boss scenes.

Anyway I exated my Revengance aganst Livia and am ready for Ultima Weapon.
