There was his extreme doormat status, his experiment on going in to Cro High, and his setting up a store. He's just a different kind of insane.

I'm making myself read in the voices of the characters from the dub, instead of in variations of my own voice. It's easier when there's chapters that were in the anime.

Yeah I read the stuff in the dub voice too. Rarely has a dub fit so well.

"What a soothing voice he has..."

I was surprised to find out that Kamiyama and Hayashida didn't refer to Mechazawa's class as faggots in the manga.

And now, a lesson on irony:

I'll be adding this to the irony page soon, and will likely move for the types of irony to be split, as Dramatic Irony is already split off. I haven't yet noticed any verbal irony in this. Is it there, or am I right?

Kiyoshi Fujimoto, leader of the Manuel High first years, is exceedingly violent in real life, but generally is polite and patient on the web page he moderates. Fujimoto defines and ignores the trolling of his school's hangout by another school, in favor of the mature discussion on his message board. On the board, he encounters Makio Tanaka, a student from the rival (and titular) Cromartie High School, who is trolling his board. Tanaka's trolling is immature ignorance, designed to expose Fujimoto's own immaturity (Socratic). For the final attack, Tanaka calls Fujimoto a Shut In. Fujimoto is a respected leader at his school with many friends, while Tanaka is ignored, disliked and without friends, as the audience is aware from earlier chapters/episodes (Historical). The next day, Tanaka spends time in Akihabara, the technology district of Tokyo that he notes is exceptionally busy, and his superiority to them. Of all those many people, Tanaka happens to bump into Fujimoto (Cosmic). Tanaka apologizes, which instead of appeasing Fujimoto, gives him a target for his aforementioned anger issues (Situational). Tanaka gets punched out by Fujimoto, as the people he was mentally insulting can only stand and watch (Tragic). While walking away, Fujimoto frustratedly declares about the troll, "How am I supposed to get back at him!" (Dramatic).

Oh, and Iron is one of the metals used in making computers, the use of which was instrumental in setting up this scenario (Mettalurgical).

Think the snarky little lines at the end of the chapters are enough to add Lemony Narrator to the trope list?

Mechazawa for Smoking Is Cool? It's in the anime too. Also they change "drugs" to "thing that are bad for your health" manga to the anime in that same scene. I can't quite recall what trope that would be.

Even from the anime alone, you could add Lemony Narrator to the list, probably.

Hmm. I just realized the pun on "instrumental". Is that a pun and Verbal irony, though?

Would Kamiyama count as the Team Dad? He always tries to talk them out of violence and tries to keep them more or less in line. You know except when he is the instigator.

Dude I watched Cromartie before I had even started coming to tv tropes let alone the forums.

In all honesty the anime is much better than the manga. It took all the best parts of the manga and put them together in good order.

The only part it doesn't have that I wish it did would be Takenouchi's adventures in America.

Yeah, but the Manga is good for seeing more of their adventures.

Since the whole series is on youtube, would it be a bad idea to embed it in this thread? I want people to watch it!

Hmmmm I'd ask a mod if you really care about following the rules exactly. If not then you can just claim ignorance and I'll edit this post to reflect that.

All right. After a long time on this wiki, I finally visit the forums and actually post something. I am inexperienced with forums in general, so apologies for not being able to do as the Romans do while in Rome and acting so freaking formal compared to everyone else here.

The reason I am posting something in the first place is to answer the question by EHK regarding whether Kamiyama is a Team Dad or not.

The Team Dad-page mentions The Leader and The Mentor, stating that the dad is either of them. Out of the types of leaders (seen on The Leader-page), Kamiyama acts the closest to type II. I may have read this the wrong way, but the "strongest guy in our class"-contest seemed to imply that the real goal was to see who the leader would be. Kamiyama won, and became the leader in some senses of the word. The chapter where he tries to teach the other students how to have normal conversations could hint that he learns them how to be normal in other ways behind the scenes, which would explain why these are badasses who don't do anything. In short, he's type II because he is the character with the most knowledge (apart from Masked Takenouchi) and has a clear goal - to make the school better.

Does this make him a Team Dad? The description on the page says that the Dad "is almost always the oldest member of the team and if he isn't The Leader, then he's definitely The Mentor, and in family-based teams, he is the father (or at least the big brother) of at least one member. He tends to be strict and gruff, but he never hesitates to put his life on the line for his team members." He certainly is not the eldest of the team - that would be Masked Takenouchi. The team is not family-based, so we will ignore that part. Does Kamiyama tend to be strict and/or gruff? He is the opposite of gruff, and his strictness varies quite a bit. Would he put his life on the line for his team members? ... I haven't seen the movie or read past the 9th volume of the manga, so I can't answer that one. Summary: I am thinking about adding something along the lines of "The Leader: in some of the earlier chapters" to his character sheet, but I would not call him the Team Dad.

Speaking of this series and wiki-managing, I am in the process of making this wikia a wikia that actually was worth creating. I am not easily angered by things related to fiction, but that wiki was so... I don't know what negative adjective to use... that I will do as much work as needed on it (as the original owner seems to be dead, or at least his account is). When I am done with the characters and locations, I am thinking about adding articles for each episode, detailing which chapters were adapted from the manga and the differences between the adaption and the original scene... Do you have any other suggestions, fellow tropers, and/or would you want to join in on the editing?

It may not be as well-known as the rest of the series, but there is one. On Amazon, there only are three reviews, and the first one could hurt the sales a bit by giving it one star and just telling people to go watch Battlefield Baseball instead. (Those reviews are a pretty good example of how Love It or Hate It this series is, as the other two reviewers gave it four stars each.)

On Netflix, it's existence is noted, but it's unavailable. That sucks.
