[up]The difference being Equestria doesn't oppress it's males. A world run by the Sisterhood would basically be Bioshock Infinite except replace Racism with Sexism...with the men being little more than slaves at best. I'm not kidding. I totally imagine in Tats' precious Post-Patriarchy World, instead of a Bomf district, you'd have a place where men are chained to a Post and women pay to be able to Beat them until they are a bloody mess barely capable of breathing. Oh and the men's payment is "Being allowed to Sleep and Eat occasionally"

[up] Oh, I don't think RadFem Utopia would feature a lot of physical violence. More likely it would be Tumblrina Heaven, with males in stocks and females insulting them and spitting on them.

Well, Little Sister Violet probably would indulge in violence ...

Nothing. She has a metric fuckton of power and is pretty scary, but ultimately wants to sit around and be acknowledged without doing anything.

...Huh.

It's kind of funny. Sufficiently advanced stupidity is like sufficiently advanced science; eventually, you find something you can't solve.

She is claiming victory for something she had nothing to do with while she did nothing more than hang a note between hundreds of other on a public tree.

If this were an intentional parody of social justice warriors it would be a very good one, but given Tats's blindness to irony and unfortunate implications I think it's completely unintentional.

Which only makes it better! [lol]

[up] Again, ambiguity! I still have no reason to disbelieve my hypothesis that Tats is deliberately hedging his bets. Rabid fans can cheer Hekate, less-rabid readers can be skeptical of Hekate's supposed wonderfulness ...

"Life is like a sewer. What you get out of it depends on what you put into it."

Even a relentlessly feminist comic like GynoStar can point at SJWs and laugh. Here the eponymous superhero is recruiting new members for the Social Justice League of America:

[up] It's as if Hekate drinks coffee out of a mug that says "WORLD'S GREATEST DAD." Maybe she owns it, but she can't claim that it applies to her.

[up][up][up][up]I still think Tats isn't good enough of a writer to do ambiguity. He fails at so many basic premises of storytelling that it would really surprise me if he can be subtle about insulting his own cause.

The difference with Gynostar you posted is that it's very obvious you are supposed to laugh at the things that are portrayed there. Gynostar is openly questioning the worth of hashtagtivism. She is reacting with revulsion to the sex superhero. She is embarrassed by assuming the racial aspect of the Asian superhero to be part of her name. That's what intentional comedy is. Somebody suffering + timing = funny.

Tats isn't making Auntler do or say anything funny in itself. It's presented as a badass boast. The fembot isn't reacting to the term "trophy" at all. If someone who is serious about Tats's politics sees this comic they would agree with it and say "you go girl!". It's only funny to me because I don't believe in Tats's version of gender-based politics and can recognize that narratively speaking Auntler didn't do shit to earn any trophy.

@hayate666: Tats isn't making Auntler do or say anything funny in itself. It's presented as a badass boast.

Rather similar to EarlySlick's boasts of being a badass pimp, wouldn't you say? The characters lack self-knowledge, but we can see through their delusions.

If someone who is serious about Tats's politics sees this comic they would agree with it and say "you go girl!". It's only funny to me because I don't believe in Tats's version of gender-based politics and can recognize that narratively speaking Auntler didn't do shit to earn any trophy.

But Tats knows that Hekate didn't do squat to earn that trophy. I think he's deliberately showing us one of her character flaws. And there have been other flaws. She's been a nasty bitch ever since Witch School. I'm actually starting to believe that Tats has aspects of the character arcs mapped out (if not plotted out) years in advance.* There's a reason she hides out in the forest, and a reason she hates men, and a reason she hates Satan in particular.

But yes, a radfem True Believer might say "Squeeeeee! Isn't she awesome?!" That's why I suspect that Tats is writing for one particular radfem True Believer.

* Again, a prediction: Hekate is in some way responsible for Lilith's death, probably because one of her pranks went wrong.

[up] Does Tats seem like the sort of writer who plots out things years in advance?

The constant sudden changes in storylines such as Vainglorious sneaking into the Devil's mansion and suddenly deciding to leave again. The anti-climactic asspull and deus ex machina endings like "It wasn't loaded". He rarely even bothers to name new characters, he introduces them at random and has them drop out of the story just as fast. Whatever happend to fire starting black guy, the dude who was introduced in a plot where Tange and her entourage stupided themselves into and out of a guarded police station? The whole plot with Slick / Sleaze has been spinning its wheels in place for years without any advancement despite having had plenty of opportunities to do so.

Shit like that just doesn't happen if you plan your stories in advance!

I'm getting the feeling that Tats is trying to imply that Hekate is manipulating a lot of the going ons from the background using her witchcraft. Not outright mind control or overriding free will, just a little thought-nudge here, a little probability-tweak there... You know, the whole In Mysterious Ways deal.

Not that he's doing it right, if that is what he's going for.

@hayate666: Please note what I wrote:

I'm actually starting to believe that Tats has aspects of the character arcs mapped out (if not plotted out) years in advance.

He get ideas about his characters and eventually gets around to using them ... sometimes using them badly, or even abandoning the ideas instead of using them. But he plants Chekhov's Guns along the way. Here are some examples of things that I suspect he has intended to use, somehow, for a long time:

  • Hekate is responsible for Lilith's death.

  • Vainglorious is the son of Satan and Hekate.

  • Fauxnique and/or Absinthe eventually will sneak into Satan's vault again, using the LILITH password. They might try to blackmail him.

  • Fuchsia will break up with Criminy. Perhaps she'll get together with Vainglorious along the way, but eventually she and Blue will end up together.

  • Xanthe will attempt to do magic and will screw it up, big time ... and it might be something that Hekate once screwed up, too..

  • Leon will turn out to be Clio's older brother. (There's only one Black family in Festerville!)

  • Blue will attempt to oust Satan for control of DevilCorp.

There's more evidence for some of these than for others. I'd say the one about Vainglorious being Hekate's son is dead certain. Tats has been setting that one up for years.

I can think of nothing positive to say about this comic strip, its neither funny, interesting or proving something fresh or story advancing.

All it does is push all my wrong buttons to the point that I hope Auntler gets hit in the face by a testosterone powered steamroller driven by an army of pimps wearing wife beaters.

You know what, if the comic needs to tackle toxic masculinity and exploitation of women, Tats should focus his attention towards black culture and its bile introducing fascination with portraying real men as a gun wielding, drug dealing cop killers that resorts to violence for every single problem while portraying all women as scantily clad hookers that only exist to shake their ass and tits at the camera.

A whole lot of Not Helping Your Case around here. Guess I'm no exception though.

I'm going to be a bit busier the next few days, so this is going to slow down.

2011-01-09 - Private 6 - Death has a glider.

2011-01-12 - Warning - Monique is still shaken from the end of last year. This is the first time in a while we've seen the club.

2011-01-13 - Warning 2

2011-01-14 - Where's My Money - Squigley's nightmare. He still hasn't heard. Not much of a punchline, but that's okay at this point.

2011-01-16 - Where's My Money 3 - Monique's looking forward to resorting to cartoon violence now.

2011-01-18 - Welcome Home - Still best buds.

2011-01-19 - Welcome Home 2 - Monique hurts them accidentally again.

2011-01-20 - Not Decent - I guess this is a sign the Tree of Knowledge is going to be used more often.

2011-01-21 - Not Decent 2 - There are a few reasons why people could dislike the previous strip. Li'l E's thoughts though, are shared by some people.

2011-01-30 - Hunter 2 - Looks like angel blood really is glitter. I was starting to think he was faking that first time.

2011-02-05 - Break New Ground

2011-02-10 - Pimp Walk - Pimps were considered cool by impressionable children and teens once. But not anymore.

2011-02-12 - Pimp Walk 3

2011-02-14 - Cupid - Why would cupid try to shoot The Devil? A hint for future storylines, perhaps?

2011-02-20 - Cupid 6 - Is Fuschiax Criminy the strongest love in the comic at this point? (Well, it did get a boost the previous day.)

2011-02-26 - Trap 5 - I notice that Jesus isn't trying to un-boomf Baby Blue anymore.

http://www.sinfest.net/view.php?date=2011-02-27 - Her path seems to be set...

2011-03-08 - People Watch 2 - They aren't enjoying something they used to.

2011-03-09 - People Watch 3 - Projection can be illuminating

2011-03-10 - People Watch 4 - This entire arc reads like a conversation about the comic and where it's going.

2011-03-11 - People Watch 5 - Yeah, this is the sort of thing that can happen when you give the Devil super-corruption powers. Supposedly, this is not a certain character's first appearance, but I must have blinked and missed it.

2011-03-12 - People Watch 6 - Monique, having just seen an injustice stands up against it. But the time that alone would work is past.

2011-03-13 - People Watch 7 - Why did any of them think they can Zen Zap?

2011-03-17 - Everything's Coming Up Roses

2011-03-19 - I'm Such An Idiot

2011-03-27 - No One Knows - Everyone has problems.

2011-03-29 - Just Wanted A Hug - Sometimes, supernatural aid is not what will help.
