No it didn't.
Like I've already said, both ME 1 and ME 2 posited a very plausible weakness for the Reapers. Not to mention that this would be the first time (that we know of) where a civilization wasn't decapitated and divided immediately.
The thing I find dumb, as Yahtzee pointed out, is that for some reason you have people still considering it Someone Else's Problem when the Reapers have made it clear that their overall goal is the extinction of all life.
And I don't know about this "balance of light and dark" stuff. Ostensibly, I agree, but it's so subjective a concept that I defy that it's a clear-cut thing.

Patrick Weekes (supposedly) talks about the endings
This was supposedly posted on Penny Arcade forums and then deleted. I don't know if it is true...but if it is, then I was right to trust him as the best writer in the Mass Effect team. He wrote Tali , Tuchanka...
It's not confirmed if it's a hoax or not. Someone should ask him on Twitter or something.
Instead, I have learned a horrible truth of existence...some stories have no meaning.^The earth getting destroyed in low esm, more damaged in higher esm(coughcough clock tower got blown off cough couh) does exist in the game.
It seems like a hoax, yes. I will give it the benefit of the doubt though...but searching around the internet I didn't find a mention to that post except on BSN so it's probably fake.
Instead, I have learned a horrible truth of existence...some stories have no meaning. That would be nice, if it were real...
Could I ask someone to summarize the Bioware blog post for me? I can't get to it right now...
Avatar from http://x0whitelily0x.livejournal.com/7486.htmlThey introduced that the Reapers were susceptible to overwhelming dakka while still being able to take down a non-trivial amount of ships down with them. They also introduced just how much damage a reaper could do over the course of just hours, and ME 3 starts off its presumably months-long ride with the reapers reaping. I don't see how a golden ending with everyone alive and happy can logically follow those points.
"Never let the truth get in the way of a good story." TwitterThey're proud of what they did, and are hurt by the criticism, but they understand it and want to make things right.
Doesn't need to be everyone alive and happy. It mostly just needs to make sense.
Nope. Apparently, they had nothing up their sleeves. They thought the ending they came up with worked. Now that they know it didn't, they're looking into what they can do about it.

X-Men X-Pert, my blog where I talk about X-Men comics.Thanks.
...see, here I was kind of hoping they actually had something up their sleeves...
Avatar from http://x0whitelily0x.livejournal.com/7486.htmlIt's a bit more vague than that, though. It contains a lot of double-speak.
But at least it's better than the usual "we are listening to feedback"
Instead, I have learned a horrible truth of existence...some stories have no meaning.True enough.
Avatar from http://x0whitelily0x.livejournal.com/7486.htmlI placed it on Pastebin so you can read it
Judge for yourself.
Instead, I have learned a horrible truth of existence...some stories have no meaning. Also, unless one is handing in their resignation, one never publicly calls out their boss on their bullshit. The tech industry and the gaming industry are usually pretty free about that kind of political crap internally (so him calling Casey out to his face was probably entirely acceptable) but to post it on the internet violates NDA and indicates that one will not keep playing with the team much longer. It's essentially the equivalent of a lineman going on TV and saying "my QB sucks the biggest balls possible and it's led to the downfall of this team"
"Never let the truth get in the way of a good story." TwitterThanks a lot!
...Yeah, that's pretty double-speak-y. At least they promise something. Ish.
Avatar from http://x0whitelily0x.livejournal.com/7486.html*8 Deshield the reapers and the combined force you gathered could win as the reaper could then each be one-shot by your dreadnaughts and overwhelmed by the large number of fighters, frigates, and cruisers you assembled.

Doesn't matter, they still already ravaged Earth and Thessia, were in the process of burning Palaven, killed everyone on the Citadel, etc.
"Never let the truth get in the way of a good story." TwitterThey also introduced that the Reapers use up a lot of their own power ASSUMING DIRECT CONTROL. They've introduced that the Reapers hide in dark space and hibernate to conserve energy, and they've established that it was a looooong drive back to the galaxy (especially after Shepard nuked the Alpha Relay). In ME 3, they establish that three dreadnaughts with Thanix cannons can take down a capital ship, and that the bulk of the Reaper forces are Destroyers which can be harmed with orbital bombardment, albeit at a pinpoint target.
So yeah, like I said, they already demonstrated that the Reapers had weaknesses that don't require a Deus ex Machina.
That just means they can be beaten, and I agree, that was all established and fine and dandy. What you can't pull out of that is a perfectly happy ending because see my previous post.
"Never let the truth get in the way of a good story." TwitterOkay, Chris Priestly (the mod) asked from Patrick and apparently that message is fake.
Maybe not a perfectly happy ending but still a very happy one none the less. That's still very do able.
and how exactly would one go about doing this? Convince them all to Assume Direct Control of a person so Shep can personally gun down that person and disrupt their concentration?
XP granted for befriending a giant magical spider!Exactly. I'm not talking about a perfect ending. Earn Your Happy Ending would suffice.
^^HEY, thats MY idea!
An interview with one of the organizers of #Retakemasseffect
This one isn't fake.
Instead, I have learned a horrible truth of existence...some stories have no meaning.Trick them into doing so. I honestly thought that was what they were leading up to in the Retribution novel. It's shown there that they consider avatars which they can assume control of to be very valuable. Or at least, they did before they had tons of mooks to work with.
I have to say, I do appreciate Ray's letter. It really was well-written, with a respectful tone. Thanks to Ray for that.
If they do change the ending, and release it bundled with other DLC, it needs to include some single-player content, as well. MP DLC and single-player DLC should probably just be kept separate entirely.
