He was a flying robot who had a huge crush on Fi but didn't care much for Link. You used him to carry items you found on the surface up to Skyloft.

he's also a massive douchebag, and an idiot who is responsible for a rather tedious escort mission when he inexplicably flies down ahead of you in order to impress Fi, without asking where he's supposed to be taking the couldren of water. and then he blames you, refuses to fly back up, and expects you to protect him while he slowly treks up death mountain and persistantly whines when enemies get to close, which they often will just because he keeps flying to them!

seriously, that fucking thing doesnt have a single redeeming trait and if any time-stone wielding robot has to be in it should be the captain who drives you around the sand sea, who is actually connected to time stones, or that pirate captain miniboss.

Meh, I don't see the big deal over Scrapper. If his escort mission were actually a challenge then yeah, perhaps some of the hate might be justified, but as is it's too easy to really complain about. Also you can attack him during it if you really want to vent some steam and don't mind restarting.

Scervo would be a much better playable character though.

annoying. is. annoying.

easy or not is irrelevant. it was padding. it was pointless. its brought on entirely by his stupidity, and the only purpose was to waste time in an already long game that then went on to waste even more time with padding, and this time is just as annoying as those other times with the stealth segment or the swimming segment or the redoing the first dungeon to get a glass of fucking water.

at least eldin and lanayru didnt intentionally cause problems that they then just smugly go "whatever" about. scrapper is an absolute shit, and the water dragon, an absolute bitch, and both can go to hell.

and you know, even aside from that stupidity with the escort mission, scrapper shows no likable traits whatsoever in the game. even if you dont see any reason to hate on him like i do, i cant fathom why anyone could actually like the guy, because even without the annoying theres still the unlikable.

Sometimes I think that the simple fact of Scrapper's name had some relevance. tongue

You know, now that I finished the game, I kind of like Scrapper better now as that deliberately annoying ally who didn't like you but your partner.

That's an important role to play.

I find unlikeable characters likeable in the sense that they're entertaining. Villains are cool and popular, no? Even though they're jerks?

I feel like people get too emotionally invested in their player avatar and take insults toward said character as personal insults.

Villains are forgiveable because they're meant to be evil.

Allies are shunnable because people expect them to be likeable. [lol]

Which, to me, makes it funnier when they AREN'T likeable. It's a subversion of expectations and it's always nice to see a break from the whole "everyone except the villains are pure and helpful" thing a lot of works fall into.

scrapper isnt a villain.

he's comic relief and a plot mechanic that explains how objects on the ground get up to skyloft.

and as comic relief, he's (in my opinion) shit, and interracting mostly with a character who has no personality and who is herself rather annoying to me, so i dont even like that aspect of him. if they wanted to explain this detail of the plot, fine. but did they really have to give it a shitty personality? they were fine with giving the much more prevalent Fi none, and while she isnt the better for it, he certainly would be.

but no, then he wouldnt be wasting my time and preventing me from entering the penultimate dungeon for another 15 minutes in which i consider just turning the wii off and going to play something that actually wishes to be fun.

i say some bad shit about fi, but ive also admitted she has some things going for her, and i genuinely would not mind her make a reappearance in a later game, provided they cut out the hand holding and gave her an actual personality.

scrapper though? he's right there with the water dragon for being utterly irredeemable trash that have nothing remotely entertaining going for them.

Well, guess we're completely wrong for liking him them. He does have stuff going on for him, but obviously it doesn't ring for everyone.

I just find his comic relief role entertaining enough, so I never had problems with him.

That being said, it takes a lot for me to hate a character, since in the end they're just fictional entities represented via textures and data. The worst I feel about a character is usually apathy, boredom, and indifference.

How would a timeshift Stone even be used as a weapon?

Regresing your opponents to not-yet-born is, you know, a good opening gambit, but not very interesting as a weapon.

I have a message from another time...

Really, it does seem kind of odd to blame individual characters for the padding that creators decided to use them to add. It's not like that escort mission happened because Scrapper is an idiot - it happened because the writers wanted an escort mission and made him an idiot to facilitate it. Likewise, they couldn't be bothered to give you an interesting reason to swim around in the flooded woods. If the water dragon ever appears in another game, she probably will not have the opportunity to roadblock you like that.

EDIT: [up]The stone could create zones of a past ice age or a hellish future where the sun has expanded to swallow the Ear... well, Hyrule.

I liked all the stuff like the escort mission, tadtone collecting, and stealth mission, because it was different in an interesting way from the regular gameplay.

The only padding that particularly annoyed me was having to go back through Skyview Temple for some water; the fact that it's the dullest dungeon in the game not helping. The battle with three Stalfos made up for part of it though.

alternatively, hating on a character is a specific and guided way to hate on a specific part of the writing and the people who wrote it.

i dont need to bypass the characters. i can hate the writers by proxy. the proxies actually have faces and i dont need to research what specific member of the writing team worked on which specific part of the game to be accurate. i get the same effect, just much less personal and with much less work, by attacking the characters instead.

not exactly. i still hate those characters.

scrappers still unlikable. and by hating him for it, im hating the writers for writing a shitty character.

my anger just happens to be aimed at the specific trigger of my anger- the shitty character i have to put up with in the game.

mind you, i dont like the stealth segment or the lanayru canyon segment in itself, but i do not hate lanayru or eldin themselves.

why? because even though its padding, eldin and lanayru are not massive assholes who cause the padding by being either useless idiots or horrible smug pricks, so if hating characters was just about hating the writers by proxy, then i would dislike lanayru and eldin simply for the basis that they're used to add padding to the mix. but im more specific than that. not only were faron and scrapper the causes of padding, they had to have wretched personalities and one caused padding by being stupid and the other twice because she felt like being a nuisance. doesnt matter if someone wrote that. i still have to put up with a combination of infuriating elements and while i hate the writers for that, the characters are guilty of being terrible and i hate them for that specific reason.

I'm pretty sure the leak is fake, seeing as it would mean there are more males than females on the roster by a large margin, when they had previously claimed it was pretty even. Also, it would mean all incoming reveals would be male. Someone's projecting.

A good writer puts in a lot of details in there story. But a great one gets a story from a single detail.
