Final Fantasy general

Because Kinkajou told me to.

So yeah, anything about Final Fantasy! I guess this would make a good starting point: Which are your favorite games in the series and why?

My two all-time favorites are tied between Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy IX. They're both very fun games that don't take themselves too seriously while still being legitimately emotional. On top of that, Zidane is my favorite Final Fantasy lead in the entire series. He's light-hearted, fun, and a generally nice guy to be around. FFV also has the advantage of having one of, if not the best, Job System in an FF game. Both FFV and FFIX make characters customizable while keeping them all unique in their own way. I'm also very fond of Final Fantasy I; it hasn't aged well, but it's classic, and like FFV, I played it tons as a kid.

I assume we'll drift around to various other FF-related discussions as the topic grows, right?

That just reminded me of how much cooler it would of been to fight Zeromus's second form rather than that overdone 3rd one.

Picked up FF Origins for my Vita. Should I ready myself for the grind? First time playing any FF prior to 3, and 3 was a HELLUVA deep grind at times, though somehow enjoyable so.

Not much for 1. They keep making it easier and easier every time they port it, so no worries.

2 on the other hand

haha

good luck.

II has no middle ground between Early Game Hell and extremely easy. [lol]

Also Toad is pretty overpowered.

Man I'm hoping FF I wasn't pussified on the PSX release. I mean even playing DQ on the NES I can manage, oldschool difficulty and grinding isn't usually an issue for me.

II definitely has my interest though, I know it's one of those black sheep titles and VIII is probably my favorite FF so far so maybe I can appreciate another broken JRPG like II.

Origins might be one of the ones to use the original and III's Vancian Magic rather most of the series's MP, so I guess it's a little tougher? Still not as hard as the NES version by virtue of pretty much everything functioning.

XII Zeromus is a crab, based on the zodiac constellation of Cancer.

Yeah, the NES games were pretty buggy. The later versions fixed that, at least.

I didn't know the Origins release kept the Vancian magic style. I might give it a go, because I've been curious about seeing it in action. I've only played the IOS release (my first FF title, even).

So apologies if I start a fight with this but I've been poking around some FFVII-related things recently due to the remake and... did something come out recently that states/implies Cloud's "canonical" Love Interest is Aerith? "Clerith" stuff seems to be all over tumblr for the last month or so.

Well I said I preferred the relationship dynamic of Cloud and Aerith over the Cloud and Tifa one in the Kingdom Hearts thread yesterday? [lol]

I think we can all agree the actual true canon pairing in VII is Cloud/Zack/Aerith/Tifa 4-way.

The game actually made it seem like it was just Aeris x Zack, Aeris only really liked Cloud cause of the way he was acting. Tifa actually liked Cloud especially when he started to act like his old self.

We can all agree the canon pairing is shippers with LITERALLY ANY PLACE EXCEPT THE ONES I'M IN.

[up][up] I dunno in VII, Aerith made a point to say Zack was her first love, but she wasn't actually in love with him.

But then I wouldn't be able to complain! I mean, they made the Internet specifically for this, didn't they?

Serious mode: the whole point of the Cloud-Aerith-Tifa situation (throw Zack into the mix if you want to) is that it's ambiguous. As long as "shipping" a couple means liking it more than the alternative(s) I've got no problem. I mean, under this definition I'm a Cloud-Tifa shipper myself. When shippers start trying to push their preference as THE ONLY TRUE CANON, though, they become very annoying in my opinion.

Also, serious mode 2: my previous post was a reference to generic rabid shippers, none of which I've met in this forum. I apologize if it seemed like it was aimed at somebody in here.

100% fair. It just bugs me when people lump all "shippers" in with the aggressive asshole types. Trust me, I get way too invested in fictional relationships sometimes and I find those people just as intolerable as you do.

TBH, you could make pretty good argument for any combination of the four. Except Zack and Tifa, I guess.
