Because Kinkajou told me to.
So yeah, anything about Final Fantasy! I guess this would make a good starting point: Which are your favorite games in the series and why?
My two all-time favorites are tied between Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy IX. They're both very fun games that don't take themselves too seriously while still being legitimately emotional. On top of that, Zidane is my favorite Final Fantasy lead in the entire series. He's light-hearted, fun, and a generally nice guy to be around. FFV also has the advantage of having one of, if not the best, Job System in an FF game. Both FFV and FFIX make characters customizable while keeping them all unique in their own way. I'm also very fond of Final Fantasy I; it hasn't aged well, but it's classic, and like FFV, I played it tons as a kid.
I assume we'll drift around to various other FF-related discussions as the topic grows, right?

No. That c->k was stupid, and she drops it after her round one with her anyway.
Heart of StoneI'm always at a loss with a Funetik Aksent that doesn't seem to actually change pronunciations. Replacing hard "c" with "k" is both stupid, and reminds me of Krazy Kat.
De Romanīs, lingua Latina gloriosa non fuī.Of course, some people got very fitting and very badass voices. Like Kain.
I have a message from another time...Kain, Golbez, and Cecil have their 4 DS voices. The voice work in that game was pretty good so I'm not surprised they came out fine.

Bartz's voice is a lot better in Duodecim, in that his imitations are better. Compare his voices for Terra and Yuna, for instance.
Heart of Stonefor the record, most of the time when a game has terrible va, it's actually not the voice actor's fault. it's usually the voice direction's, because they give well, direction to the actors and choose which takes make it in-game.
The Emperor was great just for sounding like David Bowie crossed with a pinch of Evil Brit.
Exdeath and Garland are really fun to listen to, too.
I sure said that!Thinking of "Bowie" and "evil" leads me to think of Labyrinth.

Life is more fun with infinite MP.Not a bad thought to think, since there is more than a touch of Jareth about Mateus.
Heart of StoneAll the voices fit perfectly fine, I thought. Some scenes had questionable acting, maybe, but nothing was horrifically jarring for me.
Well, Cloud's speech was slowed to about a third of his usual pace, but eh.
I'm fine with the voices. I just think the acting is terrible in some instances.

For the first time, I unlocked both Tidus' Caldabolg and Lulu's Onion Knight today.
And for the record, I consider the 200 dodges to be far less tedious than THIS F***ING CHOCOBO RACE. It probably took me more time overall (first I did 91, then 64, then 207), but at least luck did not factor in: if there was a fail it was on me, not in some design flaw.
people always had problems with that chocobo race.
And then I go and get a perfect score the first two times I do it, leading Tidus to be the first person to get their ultimate weapon, Followed closely by Yuna.
and since, I never used Lulu after about the calm lands, and I gave Yuna black magic spheres for any I needed, I never really tried to dodge those lightning bolts. Probably never will, since I seem to have the worst timing for those bolts.
Wherever I am is wherever I will be. ...unless I'm lost.Ultmecia's accent didn't make sense
Cause she Talks perfectly fine when she's speaking through Edea and Rinoa
It was like the Translating team decided She wasn't obviously evil enough and decided obviously evil villain have thick German/Russian accents. -it was the 90s- threw it on at the last second... and then she drops it completely during the fight.
Then they got Sniper Wolf to do the Voice.
I'm A Pervert not an Asshole!Ultimecia was a pretty boring villain. She was intimidating, but it didn't feel like there was much to her aside from "Worship me, fools!"
If nothing else Ultimecia and Edea had glitz and glamour on their side
There are hints at a deeper motivation. The most common interpretation I think is where time shenanigans meant that everyone knew that Ultimecia would become the evil evil sorceress before she was even born, so she grew up with everyone treating her like a monster. The evidence for this I think is her speech in Deling City.
Also there's the bit where she wants to return to her childhood, the last time she felt truly happy.
Then there's the mwahahahahaha god because why not. But that's boring.
If nothing else, she has an inimitable sense of style.

Heart of StoneIt's disappointing how so many primary villains of Final Fantasy barely show up in their own games. Sometimes you don't even know of their existence until the last second (I'm mostly thinking of Zebus and Cloud of Darkness). If a villain does appear a lot, that's often a sign that they will eventually be upstaged by the true villain. Of the games I've played, the villain with the most presence is Kuja. Kefka is another possible exception, but he wasn't really the main bad guy of part 1, and he makes up for his constant appearances by barely showing up at all in part 2.
All this can prevent a villain from being all that interesting if handled badly, which is very easy to do.
De Romanīs, lingua Latina gloriosa non fuī.Sephiroth appears quite a bit through proxy. Even throws a materia at Cloud's head
Technically it isn't really him.
And once again, everyone forgets about Vayne Solidor, the true (as in, not delusional like Seymour) Well-Intentioned Extremist of the FF series. And unlike Kuja, you can know right away that he's going to be the final boss, there is no Disc-One Final Boss to hide him.

For all intents and purposes it is Sephiroth though, he's just acting through a vessel remotely.
And Vayne vanishes off the plot for a while after he murders his Father.

The fact that he gets both screentime and (admittedly marginal) development is why Kuja's my favourite villain in the series.
Heart of StoneI think Kuja's last minute change of heart hurts his character more then it helps for me. I mean he's just so despicable for the entire game that its hard to take his remorse seriously.
What I love about Vayne as a villain is that he's never shown getting his hands dirty until the end. That he also isn't a Large Ham makes a nice change.
Life is more fun with infinite MP.
Ultimecia's accent is kompletely wrong.
I have a message from another time...
