Well, I disagree. I think it's far preferable that the content exist in a less than ideal form than not exist at all.

I mean, be critical of the implementation all you want, but I don't think "they shouldn't have bothered" is ever the right conclusion. Done it better, sure. But not not at all.

Well, the resource allocation seems pretty questionable to me at points. I mean, there were entire zones full of stuff that were basically a complete waste of time, but so many of the more interesting sounding war table missions couldn't make it into the game?

Yeah, I'm against all-or-nothing mentality too. They hadn't the budget to get the cameo characters proper scenes, so they gave them small cameos. Seems completely reasonable to me.

[up]Though I do agree that the game could do with a few less areas and a few more significant content in the actually important areas.

I'm fine with War Table cameos of past characters, I just don't want to wait upwards of 8-24 hours to get those aforementioned three lines.

I think the War Table was good on paper; show the allocation of your forces and put them to action like a general would command an army.

Just, it needed some more iteration. It would be nice if the 'Results' notifications were voiced and featured a cutscene to explain/show what happened. It would probably help with some of the quests that are a lot harder to understand what's going on (Such as the 'Find the Spy' Quest Puzzle and the 'Arranged Marriage' questline).

It would also help if you could review older ones. Some stay on the War Table forever even after being resolved and some just vanish, and it seems entirely arbitrary which is which. Meanwhile, things like the aforementioned Find the Spy quest puzzle can be really hard to manage because, between the time durations and all the other things to do including other War Table missions, remembering what happened in a War Table text block you might have last seen several days ago isn't easy.

[up]Exactly.

With a cutscene (2D Traditional Animation? CGI to look like a Tapestry or Stain Glass?) or something, it would be easier for audiences to latch onto what's happening and visualize the information.

<.< I managed to go nearly the entire game without realizing there were storylines playing out in the War Table Missions. They take so long between them and are so easily forgettable that I thought every War Table Mission was a oneshot. It was the Find The Spy one that made me realize I was supposed to be remembering this stuff.

I cheated and looked up online how to get the best rewards. If I have to spend three days doing spy missions I want my damn archon staff pattern or whatever.

Pretty sure when a general commands an army to do a siege, he sets up plans and such. Which you don't get to do at all when ordering a siege on the war table.

It's my main beef with inquisition. It never feels like you're in charge of anything. The game's tagline is "You will lead them" but you really don't. The Inquisitor's a figurehead or puppet. Jaws of Haakon is the perfect example. Goatshit-covered barbarian king has endless armies of mooks to back him up. Where are my armies? Thumbs up their asses at Skyhold. But hey, at least they send me off to collect 20 Bear Asses. Coz that's how unneeded I am.

Staff around skyhold gets changed without you so much as getting a memo about it.

I hate how little imput the War Table needs, and how little output it gave.

Currently re-downloading DLC for Dragon Age Origins since I had deleted all my old stuff to make room for other stuff in the last four years.

Also, I find Sten boring. Could be because I haven't talked to him all that much, but I feel he makes the qunari as a whole look like a very boring place to live, just based on how he behaves. There should be more qunari like Iron Bull.

Sten does come off as boring. You need to talk to him alot to fully realize what his deal is, but he's never really a shinning beacon of personality.

I really do feel like you'd solve a bunch of problems with the wartable if it was based entirely on spending Power.

There's more than enough in the game for it to work, I'm sure.

Well yes, but you might as well be saying "you'd solve a bunch of problems with the wartable by doing it correctly and putting effort in it" which is clearly not what Bioware wanted to do.

I feel that Inquisition really missed out on not having the camp conversations. I like watching Alistair talk with Dog.

Addition: Sten and Dog just staring and growling at each other was funny. Kinda wish there was a Mabari in Inquisition to adopt.

Additional Additional: Shale's funny, odd that a golem can emote.

I felt far more in charge, though considerably less important, in Origins than I ever did in Inquisition.

[up]x3 No?

A well-done war table is not the same as a war table that would be slightly enjoyable in spite of itself.

And I fucking get it man. You don't like the mechanic. Chill out.

I rather like the timer aspect to the War Table. I do agree that I'd prefer some summary aspect to the War Table stories. And I too, cheat by looking at the wiki for the better rewards.

I cheat the war table missions by adjusting my PS 3 clock. I also look up optimal paths on the wiki.

Any mechanic that encourages the player to cheat is a poorly implemented mechanic.

In a world where even collectible missions are now more frequently receiving in-game assistance towards finding them because developers have realized that making them legitimately findable without a guide encourages players to try to do it without GameFAQs assistance and makes the game more fun as a result, you would think this would be a no-brainer.

You almost sound like you don't think guessing randomly on a mission chain taking several days to a week is a good way to distribute valuable items. For shame.

I wouldn't call it entirely random. There is some logic that goes into picking who seems the best fit for the task. Whether this is a job for the carrot, the stick, or a knife in the dark. It's a cool concept.

It's just so poorly implemented that it might as well be random.
