No, the checked examples cover various media and genres, and so does the Gainax Ending page's example list.
It's one of those tropes where we can't explain how the name works, but it does. It's cross fandom. Cross media. It's not misused. It's well wiked and has good examples. It is healthy by all standards we have to measure health. How and why it works make no sense, but it does.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickSince we've been going back and forth over the same points since September, and the only change that there was consensus on making (the excellent description clarification by Deboss) has been completed, I'm going to call for a lock on this one as I feel it has run it's course.
Any objections?

None from me.
No objection here. I've been convinced.
Jet-a-Reeno!I've been following this discussion for a while, and I strongly with the consensus against a rename. I know nothing whatsoever about anime or manga, and I, personally, have always felt that most of the tropes with names originating from anime/manga are an example of Fan Myopia at its worst.
However, I think that this trope and a few others have transcended their meanings. There are so many references and uses of Gainax Ending on this wiki that I can easily understand what it is. The name would never pass muster today, but it's clearly an ingrained part of TV Tropes. Keep it the way it is.
I concur.

But maybe said hits are from a single fandom. Just wondering, because I feel that the title doesn't really... fit much.
