I'm not against the idea of using RL pics for You Tubers in general (provided they use their face in their videos), but if OP is his channel's branding we should probably use it - we are troping his content, not him.

I think it should also be noted that most of the thumbnails for his newer videos feature the avatar from his profile picture.
I prefer face-while-in-character over logo, because then we don't feel obligated to have another thread when the logo is inevitably changed, but the looks like a 'personal' photo.

I admittedly haven't watched a ton of Alpharad's videos, but the couple I have seen have always had a facecam. I have to agree with Synchronicity that it's just easier to use a RL pictures so we don't have to open a thread every time there's a logo change.

Something else I'd like to point out, his logo technically is in the image. Look under his left hand and you'll see his logo tattooed on his wrist.

The current image is just a random IRL picture of Jacob holding some sort of corn dog plushie. I think some sort of official artwork would be better, like his profile picture:
