Another programmer created this custom editor some years ago and it never got finished due to other bigger projects the company had and lack of man power. Now I'm dusting off the cobwebs and trying to get a basic version out to everyone as soon as possible. It's currently in the beta-testing phase and our engineers and moderators are the current testers.
We will use this thread as the main hub for reporting bugs and requesting more features for the editor. Check the Formatting Rules for a list of everything that can be done on TVTropes.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
- the Visual Editor is on about 85% of pages due to compatibility issues with certain markup and certain markup combinations. We will be working on getting it to 100% of pages over time.
CURRENTLY KNOWN ISSUES:
- Putting wikiformat as a caption displays it verbatim. Switching to Source and back fixes it.
- Adding indent on plain text turns it into a quote markup
- Missing common markup buttons:
- Indexing ([[index]][[/index]])
- Redirects
- Tables
- Small text ([-text-] and [--text--])
- When clicking on links it doesn’t always show correct link until you click “ok” or “cancel” then the correct one appears. Have to click cancel or okay twice to close.
- You can't add pothole (link) into an image.
- Keeping increasing indent makes text progressively smaller even though on the wiki only 3 sizes in quotes are possible. Switching to Source and back fixes the text size.
- If a quote is at the end of input, you have to switch to Source to type after it.
- Applying both Bold then Italics only saves Italics. It works correctly if it's Italics then Bold.
- Partially overlapping Bold and Italics is the other way around. If Bold then Italics, it works correctly. If Italics then Bold, the overlapping section uses only Italics.
- Folders aren't properly spaced
- Open/close all folders is full length of screen with same padding as regular folders
- -- doesn’t convert to — emdash
- Need option in profile to set TV Tropes editor on or off by default
- Switching editor off and on can erase progress sometimes. (should be fixed. report if it does again)
- Folders won’t open and close
- Can’t click after or before folders if there isn’t text already there.
- 500 error when trying to save after inserting folder
- Duplicate toolbar floats over current toolbar
- Clicking Visual Editor & Toolbar text changes button but does not activate or deactivate javascript
- Folder control works but doesn’t appear as a folder until you refresh editor
- Special characters don’t convert properly when sent to htmltosource.php.
- Spoiler markup works but is invisible.
- Label notes are being inserted incorrectly and existing label notes won’t work.
- Spoiler opens more than one after saving
- Strike formatting, Headings 4 and above, floatbox formatting and right to left have been removed since they aren't supported
- If labelnote is at the end of the line, you can't type after it. You'll be typing into either note display or note contents.
- Pop up boxes for all modals take up the full width of the screen.
- Night vision text blends in. Bg should be dark.
- The note for img modal says "Images should go through Image Pickin' before being added to a wiki article". Adding is free but changing or removing an image without approval is forbidden.
- Removed maximize and faulty “check spelling” buttons
- Folders don’t work on every-other activation of the editor.
- Putting folders in folders causes 500 error. (Prevented from inserting)
- Folder icon doesn’t change when opened.
- fixed link modal showing Type and source editor switch not parsing links correctly.

I feel like I’m missing something obvious, but when I try to make a link and click “OK”, nothing happens.
Join the Five-Man Band cleanup project!Just pulled it off on Edge.
Hi!So what’s going on with Safari, then?
Thanks in advance.

Join the Five-Man Band cleanup project!Noticed that if you embed a link while using the Visual Editor and switch the Editor off, it won't let you save until you switch the Visual Editor on again or press the Confirm Changes Button while it's off.
Also, embedding a link that only has a single word instead of at least two results in it not having the curly brackets it needs to embed properly:
(It doesn't seem to be an issue if you did the embed before switching over to the Visual Editor, however)

Eating a Vanilluxe will give you frostbite. On my recent edit (https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/article_history.php?article=VideoGame.JamesPond&page=3#edit40028448 ) to the James Pond page, for some reason the new editor registered a formatting change to the folder even though within the editor I just clicked on the folders to open them and they otherwise weren't changed at all, and it added an extra asterisk after one of the entries. I quickly corrected it, but the link should show my exact edit.

Your Resident Grumpy Old YoungsterI was working on Sandbox.Trope Epitaph Cut Tropes through the Visual Editor, and I noticed that a link to Cut List that was copy+pasted over from the non-sandbox version of the page had disappeared somehow. I re-added it, and now I can't visual edit the page anymore. I'm wondering if orange links somehow do something weird to it.
I'm editing on my phone, but the visual editor doesn't seem to work on it yet despite me tapping the visual editor slider. Is there anything you'll have to do first?

"How could you stop an idea?" (Check out my troper wall if you can!)Some weirdness on Characters.Magik - I didn't proceed with the changes. Unlike the other ones I've seen, there don't seem to be unusual characters here to drive it.
Looks like it's stripping the quoteright and brackets from the image, and not coping with the notes at all.
No changes made by me - this should have been a null edit. Didn't proceed after seeing the messages.

Understood. Anything more you need from this example, or shall I just change it over now and fix manually?
If it’s an issue like this and you confirm and then just change it back to how it was It will end up the same and disable the toolbar for other users again. This seems to be an issue I need to fix, or the markup situation causing it removed, before the toolbar can be used on that page and any other pages with that specific conversion issue.
My guess for the 2nd issue is it’s notes / label notes used within the !!! Markup maybe? Not sure about the quote right being removed.

Now monitoring Wishlist and BugsWould it be possible to make it so that when you embed a Main namespace link using the Visual Editor the "Main" part won't appear like in this edit?:
Eating a Vanilluxe will give you frostbite.
Because we never use Main/ in articles, how WikiWord works allows to not use Main/ to wick to tropes and the policy asks to remove them on-sight.
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupI found another strange bug. If you change something inside of a note in the source editor then rapidly switch back and forth between the visual and source editor, changes you make to that note specifically will no longer save. I corrected a Spell My Name With An S pothole to Dub Name Change on Trope Epitaph: Renamed Tropes #-L and accidentally hit the switch button a few times, and it didn't save even though everything else on the page did (including other changes inside of notes). I did the same thing changing some wording in a note on Trope Epitaph: Renamed Tropes M-Z.
While trying to get rid of accidental wikiwords on Station Ident. I turned the Visual Editor on and off to make sure the escape sequence was working properly, but I swear I did not touch the Portugal heading.
"As long as I have my comrades with me, I can do anything!" (She/Her) (Current Focus: Cleaning Hell Is That Noise misuse)
Ah so it doesn't save correctly when converting back. I'll fix this tomorrow when i get into work. I can see it’s missing the data-format attribute like existing links. Should be an easy fix.
