Likely due to the 'Cartoons R 4 kidz' stigma, and can't fathom cartoons that gather a substantial adult fanbase.

I would advice caution when dismissing people as "just haters". People are allowed to not like things, and the Hellaverse fandom has a somewhat spotty history with forming hate militias against people with legitimate criticism. Obviously there is a legitimately large hate mob on the other side which hates all media Vivienne Medrano creates for a variety of petty reasons, but as I understand it they are still in the Vocal Minority and it's important to remember that.

[up]That's a good point. I think it's also important to remember that, as large as the amount of people who dislike the show is (be it for genuine or unfair reasons), most critics, online reviewers, audiences and fans like the show (though many see it as good but flawed). The people who dislike this show are a vocal minority (though still somewhat large), and the unfair 'haters' who will hate Vivzie no matter what she does only make up a small vocal minority of that vocal minority.

It's not that I think the show is perfect or flawless...no show is, not even something as beloved as Avatar: The Last Airbender. I just wonder why so many critics choose to focus only on the negatives of this show in favor of its positives.

It's the same with so many movies and shows nowadays. These critics will rip apart certain shows or movies for not being perfect, then they'll praise the hell out of shows or movies that are also similarly flawed. It feels like I don't know which movies or shows I'm supposed to like or dislike anymore.

It's especially troublesome as a creative writer myself. Sure, I enjoy coming up with and writing down story ideas...but how do I know my stories aren't actually bad? What is the line when a story becomes so flawed that the good elements don't matter anymore? Surely if I have a good enough time watching a show or movie that I don't notice the flaws the first time, that should be enough, right?

I used to think it was subjective and there was no such thing as a good or bad movie/show, only movies/shows you like and movies/shows you dislike, since everyone has different tastes...but lately I've seen people say that movies/shows are objectively good or bad, and just because you like a bad movie doesn't make it good or vice versa if you dislike a good movie, so now I don't know what to think.

[up] That particular attitude is something I blame on the Caustic Critics that started getting popular during the ’00s and people’s general cynicism, like they seemingly look down on people who not only likes things that they don’t like, but also just like things period:

”What’s that? You LIKE something?! HOW FUCKING DARE YOU, YOU PHILISTINE?!”

… But yes - Just as people are allowed to like things regardless of what critics say, people are also allowed to NOT like things regardless of that. Like I’ve mentioned before, there ARE people who dislike Viv and her work for perfectly valid reasons. Not everyone are part of the Vocal Minority of people who despise her just for existing.

It’s just that her Vocal Minority is very, VERY loud and persistent - They’ve been leading this bullying and harassment campaign against her for the better part of over a decade now, I believe.

… As for your worries about your own writing: I guess the most important thing to remember is that you can’t please everyone. There’ll always be somebody who dislikes your work. I’d say that you should probably focus on telling your story, focus on the criticism that matters and isn’t just blind hate and learn from that.

[up][up]There is no such thing as an objectively good or objectively bad work, so don't let that put you off writing. It's all based off opinions. And, as [up] said, no matter what you write, you'll have people who like it and people who don't. If you write a bestseller which does well with both critics and general audiences, there will still be people who think it's bad. Conversely, if you write something that barely anyone reads and/or has mostly bad reviews, there will still be fans who enjoy it.

[up][up] In regards to Hazbin specifically, I've heard that a lot of the bad-faith criticism of the show can be traced back to an extremely poorly-made but ahead-of-the-curve review of the pilot back in 2019 (I can't remember the name of the channel, it was a dime-a-dozen "white guy with a beard reviews cartoons" one) which people apparently still haven't gotten over.

Believe it or not, I managed to find a review of Hazbin that's even worse than Pkrussl

Highlighting and showing negative reviews is one thing - You know, differing view points are good for analysis and broadening one’s mind and all that - but maybe we shouldn’t bring attention to specific people we KNOW are making bad-faith arguments?

Not for any forum rules or anything because I’m fairly certain it’s not against the rules here (We’re not importing drama, after all… At least, I don’t think it counts, does it?). But it’s better to not feed trolls/giving an Attention Whore what they want, isn’t it?

I think it’s good to know when somebody IS doing that, mind you. But highlighting specific people’s bad faith reviews is probably not the way to go.

[down] No worries. I wasn’t taking offense or anything.

The best thing about having an "ADDICT" page is that I get to use Psychological Horror on something Hazbin related

I'm hoping later seasons lean into that a little

Alastor's scene with Husk certainly shows they can lean into phycological horror (honestly it's one of my favourite scenes in the show) and would love to see more of that.

Honestly, now that the humorous core of Heaven's been stabbed in the back an insane amount of times, I think it'd be cool to see some horror on the Heaven side as well, since real angels are memetically terrifying.    Do not be afraid.

Honestly, if they could get the rights to use this music: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=77SnzzvfPyU (starting around 0:29), that would be perfect for a horror scene involving angels.

[up] Or her form after getting empowered by Lilith.

If Lilith could empower Hell itself with her songs then one mere angel wouldn't be that much of an issue.

I just came up with this great idea An episode for the second season of this show can be these short stories telling of the main cast's (Minus Charlie and Vaggie) last moments before ending up in Hell. And we can call it "How the Hell Did We End Up Here?"

[up] In that case when it gets to Alastor's turn, he's just going to shrug, say "Hmmmmmmmm...Honestly, I don't remember." and continue sipping his tea like business as usual.

We the viewers however are going to get his death in full and cleanly, as anti-climatic as it was, when he stands up (either in the middle of digging a grave or just finished filling it up) and gets shot in the next moment, without even realizing what just happened before standing on the streets of Hell before his actual body even hit the ground.
