So, I brought this up in other threads some time ago(without much replies or consensus), but the Evoland page currently tropes both the original game and its sequel, Evoland 2. However, Evoland 2 is different enough that it would make more sense to split it to its own page, as it has a whole new cast of characters, world, and overall expands and improves upon the original concept. Evoland is really more of a Thematic Series, with the sequel having the same basic gameplay and themes, but otherwise happening in a whole new universe.

My suggestion is to make a new work page for Evoland 2, move all the tropes for it over there, and have Evoland focus only on the first Evoland game (and its original game jam version). The page is already split into sections for the different games, so it should be easy enough to move over (obviously, ZCEs would have to be fixed).

Any comments on this?

I wouldn't be opposed to this, although the descriptions should be improved.

True, I'll get working on a rewrite later

Wrote up a short description for Evoland (the original), it could probably be better but it certainly feels like an improvement from the previous description

Also, if making a new page for Evoland 2 and copying over the trope list, should I keep the commented-out ZCEs (still commented out) or just fully remove those from the list?

If a page describes more than one work, splitting is preferred.

Carry on ZCE, someone in the future may notice and write in them.

Wrote up an example description for Evoland 2 (might cut down a bit on plot summary/start?):

Evoland 2: A Slight Case of Spacetime Continuum Disorder (usually just referred to as Evoland 2) is a game released for Steam in 2015 by Shiro Games.

The game is a sequel to Evoland, expanding upon the first game's theme of "the evolution of video games" and incorporates a variety of gameplay styles, genres and references, while letting you travel back and forth between different eras, represented by different graphical styles.

The game starts with Kuro, a boy with no memory, waking up after being found by a girl named Fina. As they try finding out who Kuro is and recovering his memory, they find a demon who aims to destroy humanity. But while trying to stop him, they get sent back in time 50 years after accidentally activating a Magilith relic, and find themselves in the middle of a war between humans and demons. They eventually escape and get sent into the future, 50 years after their original time, to find large parts of the world wiped out during "The Great Disaster" 50 years ago - including Fina's village. Joined by demon prince Menos and researcher Velvet, they set out to find out what happened and prevent the disaster from happening, all while travelling between different eras...

The game also got ported to mobile platforms in 2018, and in 2019, the original Evoland and Evoland 2 got a Compilation Re-release known as Evoland: Legendary Edition, released for consoles and Steam.

Looks good. Consider starting "but while trying" and "including Fina's village" as new sentences. Sentences with more than two punctuations are heavy for a reader.

Anyway, I got the description and an image ready, and think I'm more or less ready to move stuff over? Still want more opinions about whether to keep or remove the commented-out ZCEs. (I'd expand on them myself but it's been over a year since I played it and I don't remember those parts well enough to properly write about them)

Though going over the remaining few ZCEs again, one is a general, nonspecific example so that can most likely just be removed either way:

  • Nintendo Hard: Some of the sections are this, especially if playing without a controller.

Outside of that, there's only 2 left, so wouldn't be much to cut

Alright, Evoland 2 page is up. Subpages (YMMV and Shout-Out) still need to have Evoland 2 examples split and copied over to the new page (EDIT: done), and those subpages should probably be looked over in general - in particular, there's one Evoland 2 Shout-Out example that's most likely just shoehorning, like I mentioned here.

Also, where to place this example specifically about the Compilation Re-release of both games?

  • Scrappy Mechanic: An update released in January of 2021 for the Legendary Edition quickly became incredibly derided for adding a mandatory launcher with loads of issues as well as adding both always online DRM and intrusive advertisings.

(...does it even count as Scrappy Mechanic if it's not a part of the actual gameplay?)

I don't think something can be a Scrappy Mechanic if it's not a mechanic.

Also, the page for the first Evoland still has two trope lists that I think should be merged.

There are a few of them that only applies the original game jam version (I don't remember the expanded version having a gag about porn ads), but yeah, those could probably be merged into the main list and specified as "In the original version/Evoland Classic"

Either way, the actual "split" part is done, so I guess we're more or less done here for this thread
