Breath of the Sun
#51: Aug 19th 2022 at 8:15:17 PM

  • Name: Yoriichi Tsugikuni
  • Age: 24
  • Appearance: "What is the value of a human life to you?"
  • Universe: Demon Slayer
  • Personality: A gentle and quiet person. For all his strength, Yoriichi is humble and kind; in fact, Yoriichi hates the sensation of striking another person with his sword. He possesses little self-worth, believing that he failed in his life's purpose, and is saddened by the loss of life that he failed to prevent. As such, he rarely smiles. Despite all this, he does not hesitate to fight - for thoough he desires a quiet and peaceful life, he knows that such a thing is impossible so long as demons exist in the world. He will not allow a single innocent to be harmed if he can prevent it. He is more than willing to risk his own life and face terrible demons to save others. At the same time, he understands that evil actions are not always a choice, and is sympathetic to those who were led astray by poor circumstance. In actuality, the only people he thinks are truly irreedemable are those who derive joy from harming and killing others.
  • Backstory:
    • Born the younger of twin brothers, at a time when twins were thought to be an ill omen, with a birthmark on his face resembling a flame. For this reason, his aristocratic father believed he was cursed, and wanted to kill him. His mother intervened, protecting him, and his father conceded. Yoriichi's life was spared, but it was decided that upon his tenth birthday he would be sent to a monastery. Yoriichi's older brother, Michikatsu, was to inherit their father's lordship. To that end, Michikatsu was to be trained in the art of the blade.
    • Yoriichi did not speak until he was seven. His mother initially believed he was deaf, and made him charm earrings, praying the sun goddess would bless her poor child. Unbenknowst to her, he was. His first words were to his brother: Yoriichi said that he would become the second strongest samurai after Michikatsu, and fight by his brother's side. Michikatsu's instructor found this amusing, and handed Yoriichi a wooden practice sword, humoring the boy. Yoriichi defeated the man in an instant, four quick blows raining down faster than anyone could track.
    • Michikatsu realized then that his brother had indeed been blessed by the gods. Yoriichi was strong, too strong, and even he realized it. Afraid of his own power, before Yoriichi could be sent to the monastery, he ran. Living in the wilderness, one day he found a girl who had lost her family, Uta, and the two became quick friends. Years passed, and eventually they had a small home, and were expecting a child. Yoriichi was happy with his simple life. But when he went to get a midwife for the childbirth, he returned to find his wife dead, her stomach torn open.
    • It was the work of a demon. A swordsman came to him in his grief, telling Yoriichi of the Demons and the Demon Slayers who fought them. He helped Yoriichi conduct funeral rites, and Yoriichi decided then what he had to do. Joining the Slayers, Yoriichi swiftly proved to be the strongest in their ranks - thanks to the aid of his strange breathing technique, which he kindly taught the other members. This began a golden age of demon-slaying, culminating in Yoriichi meeting the Demon King himself, Muzan Kibutsuji. Feeling the hatred pouring from Muzan like magma from a volcano, Yoriichi knew in that moment that he had been born for the purpose of destroying this creature. And indeed, in a few swift strikes he had cut Muzan to pieces. But before he landed the finishing blow, he paused to ask a single question: "What does life mean to you?"
    • Muzan responded by exploding into a thousand pieces. Yoriichi was unable to cut them all, and so Muzan escaped, never to be seen again in Yoriichi's lifetime. Yoriichi returned to the Slayers a failure, and for that failure he was banished. Some even suggested he commit seppuku. Though he did not take his own life, Yoriichi was nonetheless distraught for failing to kill Muzan, realizing that many more would suffer at the hands of the demons Muzan created. Wandering aimlessly, bereft of purpose, Yoriichi was never seen in his world again.
  • Powers/Abilities:
    • Slayer Mark: The strange, flame-like birthmark that adorns his face is a symbol of great power. Yoriichi is naturally at the peak of human physicality, surpassing even olympic athletes. He possesses the stamina to run for hours on end. However, he is still human, and as such is still vulnerable to being stabbed, shot, etc.
    • Sun Breathing: By breathing in the proper manner, known as Total Concentration Breathing, one's natural abilities can be multiplied to superhuman levels. Yoriichi's already impressive strength and agility become magnified even further, allowing him to perform such feats as cleaving boulders apart and deflecting bullets (though he can't deflect sustained automatic fire). This technique can be taught to others, though one must be highly physically fit to utilize it, and few can use it at the same level as Yoriichi.
    • See-Through World: A sixth sense normally granted by intense training, but in Yoriichi's case he could use it from birth. He can see inside the bodies of living things, allowing him to detect internal damage, find weak spots, and predict his opponent's attacks from the movements of their joints and muscles. He can also use this to accurately gauge the emotional states of others - it is very difficult to lie to Yoriichi, and he can tell at a glance if someone harbors hidden resentment or killing intent.
    • Selfless State: A serene state of mind, akin to a monk who has spent years meditating. Even in the heat of battle, Yoriichi remains utterly calm and focused. Even when fighting demons, he exudes not an ounce of hatred, sorrow, or fear. He has no 'presence' in the world, and as such, abilities that detect fighting spirit or life energy will not perceive him at all. Regular senses can perceive him just fine, but something like ki sensing would not register Yoriichi's existence. Additionally, emotional manipulation is highly unlikely to work on him.
  • Skills: In his world of origin, Yoriichi is, without question, the most skilled swordsman who ever lived. Gifted by the gods with the prowess to defeat the demon king, Yoriichi can instinctively read and counter his opponents' movements as easily as breathing. While not completely impossible, it is highly unlikely for someone to defeat Yoriichi in a fair fight. However, he is primarily used to fighting individuals or small groups, not armies. He's also fairly adept at surviving in the wild, having done so since he was ten.
  • Equipment: Yoriichi carries a Nichirin blade: a finely crafted katana, made of a special ore that absorbs sunlight, designed to halt the regenerative powers of demons. The blade harnesses the power of the sun, making it effective against anything weak to sunlight, such as vampires or the demons of Yoriichi's homeworld. Additionally, Yoriichi can will the blade to heat up, changing it from its usual black color to a bright red. In this state, the cuts made by this sword burn like fire, and they cauterize instantly, preventing them from healing. As a result, the blade is highly useful against monsters that regenerate.
  • Territory/Followers: None.

Alright, here be the thing.

  • Name: Shuichi Iguchi, villain name "Spinner"
  • Age: 20
  • Appearance: 174 cm/5'8.5 of height; with his hair down. Despite appearances, a human.
  • Universe: My Hero Academia
  • Personality:
    • A self-admitted empty shell of a man. Having spent most of his life in reticence, he's only recently been finding a spark to be the change he wants to see in the world. Too bad that involves joining a notorious villain organization... a die-hard fan of the Hero Killer Stain, although it's apparent to most in the know that he's merely parroting what he thinks said Hero Killer's ideology is rather than being a genuine adherent. As he holds onto that warped code of honor, he's fairly moral for a villain - and now that he's been thrown into the world that's never even heard of the Hero Society, what few of his beliefs are there are about to be challenged.
    • His bravado and aggressive bluster make up for the fact that, for the most part, Shuichi's got no idea what he's doing. Deep down, he is still looking for the exact purpose in life. When he's not gnashing his teeth or proclaiming ideation of his idol, there's some melancholy to be found deep down.
  • Backstory:
    • Shuichi Iguchi spent near-his entire life mocked and ridiculed. In the distant future of humanity, the advent of strange powers known as Quirks led to a wild variation between members of the homo sapiens species. In case of the Iguchi Family, their Quirks gave them the reptillian appearance; perhaps nothing to be amazed about in the city, but in the podunk little hometown of his, the locals were much more close-minded. Shuichi's seen mothers ushering their children away from him and he had stones thrown at him from his peers. Eventually, he chose to seclude himself from society, thinking this was going to be his lot in life; a worthless creature with no future.
    • That did not come to be. He, and many others in Japan, bore witness to the manifesto of a notorious Hero Killer Stain - a violent vigilante who sought to dispose of "fake" pro-heroes. In a world where heroics became a profession, where helping the helpless came with a paycheck - were these people really heroes at all? Watching Stain on a shaky video cam feed, watching him intimidate the heroes in front of him - including the No. 2 of the country - even when defeated and about to pass out... Shuichi's eyes were opened.
    • The Hero Killer was associated with a villain group known simply as The League of Villains. Obviously, if such a character was among them, that there was some end goal to upturn the rotten society and remake it into a new world. Styling his hair up to emulate the wild mane of his newfound idol, Shuichi found himself among notorious scoundrels and miscreants - ready to overthrow the rotten regime of heroes.
    • Alas, it did not come to be; an unknown force whisked him away to parts unknown. Nobody cared to find out what became of the disappeared Shuichi Iguchi.
  • Powers/Abilities/Skills:
    • Quirk: Gecko - On top of giving him his appearance, Shuichi's Quirk allows him to cling to walls and ceilings with ease. Among the vast myriad of powers, his is noted to be particularly weak as far as Quirks go. It does give him a better grip on items as well, though that one is a bit of an unintended effect.
    • Gaming TM - Despite having spent his near-entire life as a shut-in, Spinner is surprisingly athletic. He might not be able to contend with the best of them, but he can swing his ridiculous chuuni sword of swords (more below) with ease, and he's not the slowest either. He might not be able to keep up with a pro, but that scrappy self-taught fighting style - and the sheer stubborness he exhibits - can help him stay in a fight.
    • Grand Theft Auto - He knows how to drive. Hopefully the passengers don't get carsick easily, because he learned from video games.
    • Generally knowledgeable with video games, having spent most of his pre-villain days gaming away.
    • Mean throwing arm.
  • Equipment:
    • Super Knife Knife Sword - A frankensteined makeshift greatsword made from a multitude of smaller knives and blades held together with tape, chains, and blithe spirit. Despite violating every safety rule and some physics laws in the book, it's actually a surprisingly effective weapon - although Spinner uses it more like a bludgeon than an actual sword. Normally held wrapped up in layers of cloth and held on his back.
    • An assortment of secondary weapons: a katana on his back alongside the weapon above, a wakizashi at the small of the back, and a few throwing knives.
    • His outfit is a direct homage to the Hero Killer - and like it, it's meant to be a makeshift combat armor too. It's nothing to write home about, really, but it makes it harder to put a knife in his ribs, at least.

Since I didn't have it quite ready at startup, here is my first Free Agent signup (I may come up with another, but I want to take a break to decide exactly who I'd choose for that).

Name: Ashe & Grey

Age: 15 (Ashe), 14 (Grey)

Appearance: Normal, Megamerged

Universe: Mega Man ZX Advent

Personality: As one would learn just by spending 5 minutes around her, Ashe is a feisty lass, and embodies the tomboy lifestyle something fierce by both words and deeds. Inspired to be a treasure hunter and make a name for herself, Ashe has worked tirelessly to do exactly that, showing stubbornness bordering on the insane, yet she's pulled through each and every time. Grey, meanwhile, is a bit more reserved, yet spending time with Ashe has influenced him to mimic her mannerisms and has awakened a blunt manner of speech combined with a dry wit within him. One thing both youths share, however, is the unwavering desire to help others who need it, so neither one will hesitate to jump to someone's aid if they're in trouble.

Backstory: Starting life as a treasure hunter due to the company she kept, Ashe was always looking for the next big score, and was thus no stranger to finding trouble, but one day trouble ended up finding her as she was attacked by a mysterious Reploid known as 'The Reaper'. Upon waking up back at home base, she learned that she wasn't the only one who'd been under attack, as a youth named Grey was in the infirmary as well after being awoken and subsequently attacked by the Reaper's partner, 'The Witch'. Seeing as he was new to the world having been in stasis for who knows how long, Ashe took the boy under her wing, and soon enough both of them were sent to escort a valuable Biometal (an AI encased in a small metallic artifact said to be able to grant its wielder superhuman powers) to their land's center of government, Legion. The train ride was interrupted, however, by both the Witch and the Reaper appearing to try and finish what they'd both started and claim the Biometal for themselves.

At this point, the Biometal awoke and named itself 'Model A', and showed that it was compatible with both Ashe and Grey, and from that point forward, both the Humanoid and the Reploid were embroiled in what was known as the 'Game of Destiny', a scenario in which Mega Men (those compatible with Biometals) would fight each other until only one was left, with them proving themselves the strongest and thus worthy to rule the world. As both Ashe and Grey suspected and were later able to confirm, the entire setup was a farce, and only served to benefit one man: Master Albert, one of the Sage Trinity of Legion, who started the entire Game of Destiny to awaken and fuel what he referrred to as the Ultimate Biometal, Model W, to reshape the world as he saw fit.

With both bearing the right to wield Model A, Ashe and Grey were the ones best suited to stopping the madman, and as they got stronger and gained more experience, they did exactly that, preventing a worldwide calamity and saving their friends in the process. With their mission concluded, the two Hunters had grown far too attached to each other to simply part ways, and so Ashe was more than happy to induct Grey as her partner from that point on.

Powers/Abilities:

-Megamerge: With Model A in their possession, either Ashe or Grey can transform into a more powerful and armed version of themselves, but only one of them can be Megamerged at any given time. Whichever one is transformed, they are capable of firing individual shots in rapid succession, charge up energy to two stages for more powerful yet slower shots, and project a targeting field that allows for homing shots. By focusing power for enough time, they are able to perform Giga Crush, which sees them fire from both hand busters at once while spinning them around their bodies, able to hit everything around them in a 12 foot radius for damage equivalent to taser shocks.

-Megamerge (Grey-Specific Attributes): When Grey is the one transformed, he is the more destructive of the two, as his attacks are geared towards damage and little else. Grey's normal Buster Shots deal damage equivalent to a pistol shot, his first charged shot ups that to damage equivalent to being hit with a grenade's explosion, and his second charged shot is able to bust stone apart. In addition to this, his Homing Shot targeting radius encompasses a field of 15 feet around him, and he can fire up to 8 shots at once to hit one or multiple targets, with those shots carrying the same force of his regular ones.

-Megamerge (Ashe-Specific Attributes): In contrast to her partner, when Ashe wields the power of Model A, her attacks are geared towards less powerful but more accurate shots. Her Buster Shots hit with the force of a paintball, her first charged shot ups that to a pistol shot, and her second charge shot further ups that to being hit with a cattle prod (this second charge shot differs in that unlike Grey's, it is a laser shot that is capable of rebounding off of surfaces it hits until it dissipates or hits a living target). Her Homing Shot, while only having a range of 10 feet and with it focused on what is in front of her instead of all around her, makes up for its drawbacks by firing a shot of lightning that can travel between the targets she aims at in rapid succession.

-A-Trans: If either wielder of Model A is able to get a hold of a person or creature's DNA (usually by means of hair, blood or life energy) and properly integrate it with the Biometal, they will be able to transform into that person or creature and have access to their powers and skills. Depending on the transformation in question, some abilities will be beyond the Biometal's ability to replicate (i.e. any ability replication is subject to GM veto).

Skills:

-Mechanic Training: Thanks to Ashe learning from the Hunters, and Grey learning from Ashe, both of them are skilled mechanics and are able to get broken down machines or mechanisms in working order if given the time and materials to do so.

-Sharpshooter Training: Even without Model A boosting them, both Ashe and Grey are capable shots with guns and other ranged weapons.

-Martial Arts: While it's quite obviously not their first choice for combat, neither youth is lacking in close-quarters combat knowledge, and are able to defend themselves if disarmed.

Equipment:

-Energy Pistols: Their primary means of offense when not transformed. Each shot is equivalent to an electric shock, but it would take many shots to take an opponent down, so it's more of a deterrant than a weapon of choice.

-Model A: The Biometal bonded to both of them. The AI has enough sentience to communicate with them and those in the area, but on its own merits, it has no means of attack or defense, so more often than not it stays hidden within one of the travel packs of its partners.

@Chortleous: I'll be honest, with the current lethargic state of the RP forums, I wasn't expecting anyone else to express interest... Alright, then. Signups are now re-opened, including to people who haven't yet expressed interest in a Frontiers reboot. However, I guess I should bite the bullet and get this over with, so...

@This: The reason I originally put signups into their semi-closed form was because I was reluctant to tell you this, but based upon what I have seen of your RPing on these forums previously, I really do not think that you would be a good fit for this RP. Of course I understand that everyone has to start somewhere in terms of being a RPer, and improvement usually comes with time, but in the meantime the level of RPing you are at currently is very frustrating to RP alongside, and I do not think that the playerbase of this game or I have the time or patience to shepherd you along by explaining at length what is wrong with your posts every time. I have faith that you can and will improve over time, so please do not be too discouraged by me saying this. It's just that at present, I don't think that this RP is the place for you, so I will almost certainly reject your signup on that basis if you do sign up.

[up][up]Oh shit, in that case, here's an as-of-yet unaffiliated OC free agent:

Name: Elaine, or Ellie.

Age: Young adult (18-to-25) by Vaporeon standards.

Appearance: A typical, quadrupedal Vaporeon (a small, finned, blue mammalian creature best described as the intersection of cat, river otter, and fish) with a handful of differences, art mine, that set her apart from her kin—namely a tinge of purple in her natural blue coloration and severe notches in her headfins, with a pierced tail fluke. As typical in her version of canon, she stands at about 1'10 ft. at the shoulder.

Universe: The Pokémon franchise, particularly a variant of canon that lands somewhere between the games, anime, and live-action film; cities, towns and regions are fleshed out into more believably lived-in spaces, most pokémon are intelligent to some degree and make animal-like sounds as opposed to saying their own names, things are generally less 'game-y', and certain things like relative pokémon sizes stick closer to the anime.

Personality: Sassy, crass, snide, manipulative but unafraid to get her paws dirty. Good-natured and playful when she wants to be, and with people she genuinely likes and respects (or just wants to ingratiate herself to for one reason or another). Prideful of her skill in fights—pokémon battles or otherwise—and adverse to admitting defeat, but will hesitantly back down to regroup when she knows she's in over her head, with every intent of returning and besting her opponent. If she can't do that, however, it massively eats at her confidence and forces her to confront her own faults and weaknesses, which she'd really rather not have to do.

Backstory: Once a scrappy stray Eevee who struck out on her own from a carelessly neglectful trainer whose name she never cared to remember, Elaine picked up a plethora of skills, knowledge, and connections from living as a semi-wild stray over the years before being 'adopted' by a new, vastly more competent and attentive trainer who taught her to properly battle in lessons that eventually culminated in her evolution into a form that better suited her skills and tastes. This coupled with her continued victories only bolstered her egotistical confidence until a nasty defeat at the hands of a rival trainer's Jolteon (who she fought despite her own trainer's warning and attempt to recall her) brought her down to earth and left her with a few more scars for the collection. And a mild fear of lightning, though she'll never admit to that.

Powers/Abilities: As a pokémon, Elaine has an assortment of special powers, many of which are in some way related to her being a water type, and four of which are her moves adapted into a non-video game context:

  • Bubble Beam, a watery stream of bubbles emitted from her mouth that hits with great force, baseline equivalent to a punch from a human heavyweight boxer, a maximum of stone-breaking force if she puts more energy into it, and weaker if she so chooses. Slows her target down for a time.

  • Ice Beam, a white beam of piercingly cold energy that chills whatever it hits. This has two variants: A narrow beam that freezes a localized area solid, and a wide beam that creates an external layer of ice over a wider area.

    • Like Bubble Beam, she can also fire off weaker blasts with reduced charge-up; these may not freeze anything solid, but can create small amounts of ice and hitting a living thing may be quite painful.

    • These both require a seconds-long charging period signified by a buildup of energy in her mouth/throat as well as a temperature drop and the corresponding accumulation of ice crystals in her fur and immediate surroundings (with this also producing a faint crackling sound).

    • She is, in theory, also capable of using this in tandem with her elemental water powers to control the ice it creates to construct various shapes, though in practice she uses it as more of a hammer-meet-nail tactic.

  • Quick Attack, a momentary burst of super-speed that allows her to attack (be it with claws, teeth, or her powerful tail) with blinding quickness. Effectively a Flash Step, and can be used as such without making an attack.

  • Sand Attack, wherein she kicks up sand, grit, gravel, or anything available into her opponent's face with the goal of impeding their sight and throwing off their aim—dubiously magical or supernatural and probably better placed under Skills, but it is what it is.

    • Repeated use of this and the rest of her moves will drain her energy (PP in the games), which requires some time and rest to recharge.

  • Her Abilities, as the games call them, are Hydration and Water Absorb, which heal status effects when it's raining and regenerate health when hit by water-type attacks respectively. For the purposes of RP, though, these are both consolidated into a generalized ability to regenerate wounds, illnesses, and cleanse venoms/poisons when in contact with a source of fresh water. This only functions within reason, so no From a Single Cell shenanigans; dead is still dead, and critical injuries are still dire unless she is given the requisite first aid to survive long enough to properly heal, and even then they may still leave a mark.

  • Because of Vaporeon physiology, she also possesses the power to temporarily shift her body into a liquid state, rendering her entirely invisible when already underwater and allowing her to slip into spaces impassable in her solid form, as well as evade certain attacks, though this change doesn't negate existing injuries or afflictions. Anything that destroys/evaporates water will hurt her severely in this state, reducing her body mass in solid form accordingly until she can regenerate the loss.

  • Her water typing also gives her a limited elemental control over water, applications of which include altering the flow of water and manipulating small amounts of it, as well as the ability to breathe in it indefinitely.

    • This typing also means that while she's strong against fire or rock-based opponents (and near-impervious to water and ice) she is weak to certain things, namely electricity and plant-based attacks, and is especially prone to exhaustion and dehydration when in hot, arid environments or otherwise without water for too long—this also nerfs her powers considerably as one would logically expect.

Skills: In addition to being a naturally powerful swimmer with the physique that this implies, Elaine is an adeptly pragmatic fighter, thief and troublemaker, with a variety of applicable skills including lockpicking, pickpocketing, sneaking into places undetected, hotwiring cars, and bomb-making (well, she claims to have the knowledge for those last two, but she doesn't possess the manual dexterity in any case, nevermind how she'd reach the pedals). A master of the hustle, she's a keen liar and sweet-talker when the situation calls for it, able and willing to expertly manipulate the unsuspecting to get what she wants—the suspecting may see this coming a mile away, though, which tends to trip her up. Relatedly, she knows enough human language to get by regardless of the universal language that everyone on the Frontier receives.

Equipment: Nothing of note beyond her natural claws and teeth.

Territory/Followers: None.

  • First of all, in case you haven't figured it out from reading the main thread, I should specify that everyone now gets a universal language inserted into their heads when they arrive in the Frontiers, so they're able to communicate both in their native tongues and that language. Thus, I expect that after she figures this out, Ellie won't just communicate in animal noises.
  • You say that Bubble Beam hits with "great force", but please give some relative measurement for this feat. For example, can it break bone? Shatter stone? Tear through a sheet of steel?
  • Actually freezing rather than merely creating ice would probably be extremely lethal, but it's not like other player characters don't also have very lethal abilities, so how about this? Let's say firing Ice Beam requires a prelude to firing that includes an obvious visual and auditory cue, and Ellie can fire both a narrow beam that freezes the area around where it hits, as well as a wider beam that just creates ice or encases what it hits in ice?
  • Quick Attack functioning outside of the context of attacking is fine.

1. Figured there would be translation at play, though I did forget to note that she can speak human language with adequate fluency anyway a la Meowth, this being a thing that pokémon can learn with effort. This might not be immediately apparent to her, though, as I could easily see a scenario where she snarks at someone in pokéspeak thinking they don't understand her.

2. It would vary, but general baseline is "punch from heavyweight human boxer". Can go weaker or escalate to stone-breaking force, though the latter costs her more energy to do.

3. Merely creating ice where it hits with a preparatory charge-up works (it and Bubble Beam function like Breath Weapons, the former signified by a light in the back of her throat and/or a ball of energy suspended in her mouth with accompanying Sucking-In Lines or something like that), though I do like her being able to alternate between the two options, so we'll roll with that.

4. Noted! Edited to reflect all of the above.

Geeze I forgot how awkward the text format for this website could be at times. I won't be surprised if I have to fix some formatting issues even after taking ages on this submission.

Name: Seto Kaiba
  • Age: 20
  • Appearance: 'Not just a pretty face'
  • Universe: Yu-Gi-Oh!AU
  • Personality: Prideful, ruthless, wealthy, powerful. Traits attributed to dragons throughout history, fully embodied within Seto Kaiba. Lives by the principle of showing weakness to nobody, and adopts a front of cold civility and self-confidence that many believe to be arrogance or snobbishness. This suits her fine, since only her family and friends/rivals have ever known that there was more to her than overweening presumptuousness. She does pay respect where it's due, and is willing to place her own reputation and life on the line for goals she considers worth sacrificing for. Carries a soft spot for orphans and people genuinely working to make a better future, but don't you dare try to say it to her face.
  • Backstory: Seto Kaiba, adopted daughter of former CEO Gozaburo Kaiba, was in a sense always destined for greatness. Raised to become someone of great ambition, cunning, and ruthlessness, the world received a taste of just how ambitious and ruthless she was when she managed a complete corporate takeover of her father's company as a teenager. But this was a prelude to how much she would take the world by storm, as before the age of 18, she had not only successfully pivoted Kaiba Corporation from a weapon's manufacturing company to a premier gaming technology group, started the creation of a massive theme park rivaling Disney World as her passion project, and investing revolutionary holographic projection technologies, she had also found time to win titles in numerous gaming tournaments, primarily in the realms of chess and the popular trading card game known as Duel Monsters. It seemed for a time that Seto's success and profound sense of arrogance could know no equal...until a personal grudge match against an amateur by the name of Yugi Muto ended in a very publicly broadcasted loss across the country. The loss shook Kaiba to the very core of her being in a way that no one else could, sparking a life-long rivalry with Yugi 'King of Games' Muto that it could be said not even death could stop. After six months of extremely deep soul-searching, Seto Kaiba stepped back into the limelight with a new purpose in life and far grander ambitions. Today, Seto Kaiba can be seen working to not only improve upon the infrastructure of both Domino City and her own company, but also to incorporate her personal passion for Duel Monsters into technology in a way that some say borders on ludicrous, branching out into the energy, transportation, and even virtual reality industries as well. Many shudder to think where her ambitions will take her next, with some joking that she might try to overcome death itself one day. Though Kaiba Corps has been transported to a new world, it seems to have not stopped Seto Kaiba one bit, continuing to progress to her goal while working to exploit the fact they're in a new untested land. She's remained tight-lipped on what possible end game she could be progressing to even in this environment, but many speculate that it somehow involves the King of Games himself.
  • Powers/Abilities: Kaiba has little knowledge or regard for the supernatural, but others have noted that she has a very strong affinity with otherworldly spirits known as "Duel Monster Spirits", indicating an untapped potential for sorcery. As Kaiba prefers the reliance of modern day science and technology, this quality only really enables her to perceive and resist the supernatural influences of the world she lives in.
  • Skills:
    • Prodigy: Natural born cleverness and a hellish childhood of college tier education has molded Kaiba into one of (at least for her world's) foremost geniuses in the realms of business and science, primarily in the realms of computer programming and engineering. Many of Kaiba Corp's most groundbreaking inventions such as the Duel Disk and the Solid Vision holographic technology were conceived and designed by her.
    • Skilled Driver: Kaiba has somehow taken the time to learn how to not only drive cars and motorcycles but also airplanes and boats at a very young age.
    • Champion Gamer: Games are one of the few things that Kaiba will admit to enjoying in public. She has an aptitude for almost every single one she has tried, having a particular liking for Chess and Duel Monsters.
    • Athleticism: Despite being a massive nerd, Kaiba is also very good at overcoming physical challenges, managing to run and jump through dense forests and concrete jungles with ease, as well as being able to fend off armed guards with her bare fists and feet alone and hurl things like cardboard cards with such skill and strength it could almost be considered a superpower. Almost.
  • Equipment:
    • Duel Disk - Specialized piece of dueling equipment for portable playing of the card game **Duel Monsters. Attached to the forearm, contains an electronic database to record **everything and keep track of all the information necessary when dueling, a holographic projector, and a neural link to ensure a completely immersive virtual reality experience unlike any other.
    • Briefcase - A mysterious briefcase Kaiba always seems to be carrying around that seems to always be full of Duel Monsters cards.
    • Pendant - A personal memento worn around her neck at all times. Contains a picture of her little brother.
  • Territory/Followers: Kaiba controls the Kaiba Corporation in Domino City, but the amount of capital weight she can throw around gives her control of most of the city's functions. Along with a large amount of employees working for her business and her younger brother, she has a group of security personnel and a secret team of top rate duelists that she is keeping in reserve to test some particularly revolutionary dueling related technologies. And while not a follower, Kaiba's been involved in enough strange things to keep the phone number of her rival Yugi Muto on hold.

Supporting Cast

Name: Mokuba Kaiba

  • Age: 12
  • Appearance: 'His sister bought him the suit'
  • Universe: Yu-Gi-Oh! AU
  • Personality: Visibly childish and high-energy, but with far more competence than his extremely short demeanor and even shorter temper would suggest. His loyalty and love for his older sister Seto is unquestionable, to the point of being almost blind to how much of a jerk she appears to other people.
  • Backstory: The younger brother of Seto Kaiba, Mokuba is one of the few moral anchors that keeps Seto tied to her responsibilities in this world. Though their relationship is not always equal due to both the age difference and difference in responsibilities, Mokuba's safety and well-being has been prioritized by Seto even above her own interests. Mokuba's own achievements are far fewer in number due to not being expected to play a large part in the running of Kaiba Corporation, but he is the unofficial second in command in most of his older sister's more ambitious projects, as well as taken part in numerous gaming tournaments himself to impress Seto. Many would-be enterprising businessmen and business tycoons are often confused or outright angered when they come expecting Seto Kaiba only to find a pre-teen as the one screening obstacle placed between them and the head of Kaiba Corps, but Mokuba will always have Seto's back.
  • Powers/Abilities: None.
  • Skills: Nowhere near a prodigy like his brother, but sufficiently skilled in the realms of business management, computer programming and gaming to hold his own at least until his big sister is able to take over.
  • Equipment:
    • Pendant - A personal memento worn around his neck at all times. Contains a picture of his older sister.
  • Territory/Followers: Serves an advisory position to his older sister, so carries an unofficial level of authority, to the vast confusion of people that meet him.

Name: Yugi Muto

  • Age: 18
  • Appearance: 'Also not just a pretty face'
  • Universe: Yu-Gi-Oh!AU
  • Personality: Kind hearted and very polite, he has the kind of personality that diametrically opposes his outrageous hair in not being the kind of person to stand out in public. Nevertheless, he is very passionate about gaming, the value of friendship, and the protection of those he cares about. Notably manages to be able to find the good in a lot of people, even total jerks like Kaiba. Despite his quieter nature, when push comes to shove he has an iron will and a determination that rivals Kaiba's.
  • Backstory: Destiny comes in all manner of strange forms, and for Yugi Muto that came in the form of an ancient artifact known as the Millenium Puzzle. Solving it unintentionally unleashed the spirit of an ancient pharaoh into the world along with the ancient shadow magics from the lands of Egypt. Guided by the spirit of this nameless Pharoah, Yugi gradually changed himself and his fate from a meek nobody to a confident world class champion of the game of Duel Monsters, coming to be nicknamed the "King of Games" by the public. Though eventually fulfilling his destiny in ensuring the spirit of the formerly nameless Pharaoh passed onto the afterlife to ensure the ancient shadow magics never come to blight mankind again, Yugi Muto himself has not decided to merely settle down for an ordinary existence. His current ambition is become an inventor of games rather than just a player of them, and to that end he is in talks with Kaiba for funding regarding some of his pitches. Notably, his past with Seto Kaiba is one with a lot of mixed feelings. Despite the grief both Yugi and Kaiba have brought each other due to their rivalry, they naturally respect each other as fellow duelists. Yugi is willing to call Kaiba a friend over this, a sentiment Kaiba is reluctant to admit, along with a continued insistence that her rivalry is with "the other Yugi" that she claims is the true King of Games over the one the world knows. Rather unfortunately for Kaiba, despite all appearances of keeping herself distant from Yugi, whenever something weird or supernatural becomes involved in Domino City, it inevitably entangles Yugi and Kaiba in its snare and forcing them to work together to her immense frustration.
  • Powers/Abilities: Yugi himself is no sorcerer, nor was ever trained as one. Nevertheless, his personal connection to the ancient spirit once trapped in the Millennium Puzzle means that his affinity for spiritual magics is extremely high, and he has managed to achieve successful results with using magical artifacts despite being a complete amateur. At a minimum, he is able to see spirits and prove extremely resistant against magic meant to control or ensnare his mind.
  • Skills: King Of Games: Despite being an otherwise normal person, his wit and skill have enough backing to allow him to solve nearly any puzzle or conquer any game that he has thrown at him, enough to defeat some of the biggest champions in the world. He's solved more than one deadly encounter by mentally framing his challenges as games with rules to solve, which means there's always a way out...
  • Equipment:
    • Duel Disk - Specialized piece of dueling equipment for portable playing of the card game Duel Monsters. Attached to the forearm, contains an electronic database to record everything and keep track of all the information necessary when dueling, a holographic projector, and a neural link to ensure a completely immersive virtual reality experience unlike any other.
  • Territory/Followers: Yugi himself lives at his family's small hobbyist shop known as Kame Game, a shop so small and inconsequential that it's barely even remembered for being where the King of Games lives. While he wouldn't call them "followers", Yugi does also have a small group of friends that are likely to be following him around on whatever misadventures he gets up to, notably including Pro Duelist Katsuya "Joey" Jounouchi. Notably, while Kaiba is very reluctantly willing to call Yugi an ally if pressed to, she does not share the same attitude for Yugi's friends, having an especially caustic reaction to Jounouchi for his low-brow personality and astonishing capacity for annoying Kaiba.

Territory
Name of the Territory: Domino City
  • Universe of Origin: Yu-Gi-Oh!AU
  • Description: A large modern day city. Several skyscrapers and a theme park are visible from leagues away, the most visible being the headquarters of Kaiba Corporation. Large enough to contain its own underground railway system and port. Some buildings look more advanced than others in a manner that is out of place. The Kaiba Corps building is nearly identical to a modern conglomerate corporate headquarters, but every so often large holographic images of fantastical creatures will be seen displayed flying overhead of the building. Example
  • Contents/Locations:
    • Kaiba Corporation aka Kaiba Corp: A technological conglomerate that bills itself first and foremost as a gaming company, which rings a little hollow when it seems to be funding far more than that. The majority of Kaiba's enterprises goes on over here, notably the R&D labs, marketing, and helicopter/armored vehicle hangars. Also the location for Kaiba's personal jet, themed after her favorite Duel Monster known as the Blue Eyes White Dragon Jet. This is where Kaiba is more likely to be found when not doing research or overseeing Kaiba Land.
    • Kaiba Land: A massive theme park with the given motif centered around the Duel Monsters creature colloquially known as the Blue Eyes White Dragon. Certain areas of the park are free admission for children, intended primarily for those underprivileged to still gain access and enjoy themselves. Mokuba Kaiba can be found running the place for Seto when his presence is not required at the Kaiba Corporation.
    • KC Stadium: A massive stadium, primarily rented out for use in official Duel Monster tournaments, but also has a large race track for motorcycles along the outside for competitive racing events. Also the testing grounds for a new type of vehicle known as the "Duel Runner".
    • Kaiba Corps Space Station: A massive space station used to house one of the most advanced artificial intelligence systems in the world. The testing area for Kaiba's personal passion projects. Currently grounded with no obvious way to launch it into space yet.
    • Domino City Museum: A public museum that contains one of the world's biggest exhibits on Ancient Egyptian history and artifacts in the world. Kaiba has notably made a monetary investment in recent years due to increasing interest in the legends surrounding the ancient artifacts. Rumors are circulating that a mysterious figure is said to wander the museum after hours, moving through the Egyptian exhibits.
    • Duel Academy: A public school partially funded by Kaiba. While for the most part it follows general school education, special elective courses are available for those who want to become official "Pro Duelists" in the Duel Monsters championship leagues. It is rumored that Kaiba's investments in Duel Academy are to get his first pick of the next generation of Pro Duelists, as there are already several bright stars showing result in amateur competitions that come from this school.
  • Specialties: Domino City is known as the entertainment center of the world, having numerous open air plazas, theme parks, and arcades around nearly every corner. As a result, while there are criminal elements running around, most forms of conflict resolution that does not involve the police will come in the form of impromptu games or bets, the usual method being the game of Duel Monsters played using Kaiba Corporation's Duel Disk technology system. A strange form of holographic technology known as Solid Vision is currently being utilized for the Duel Disk technology, but for reasons unconfirmed the occasional "glitch" occurs where the holographic projections seemingly come to life in a phenomenon known as "Real Solid Vision". When this occurs, the holograms representing sentient creatures or mechanical beings show the capacity to act on their own and even cause physical damage until they are shut off. Kaiba has no official word on what is causing this glitch, but some think there is more she is not telling people. Notably, while the city itself still has a real government, it's no secret that the amount of funding Kaiba Corps pours into so many aspects of Domino city means that Seto Kaiba is considered the shadowy true leader of the city, with joke betting pools being formed on when she will just buy the city outright. In exchange for so much charity and donations, Kaiba is able to pull some strings with the government to ensure she gets what she wants, including forming her own special forces as "security personnel" and her own racket of transport helicopters as "emergency vehicles"...Horus knows how many strings she must have pulled to get that Blue Eyes White Dragon Jet cleared.
  • Population: Darned if I know, but let's low ball it and say 200,000 residents. The majority of them are just ordinary people trying to make a living, but a notable portion work for Kaiba Corps, including those who are sponsored by Kaiba Corps as Duel Monsters champions that are (almost) as good as Kaiba.

Very sorry it took me so long, but I finally had a holiday off so here I am.

Free Agent Signup

  • Name: Surtr
  • Age: Twentysomething
  • Appearance: Here and here.
  • Universe: Arknights
  • Personality: Usually somewhat cold and slow to trust, no-nonsense, and stubborn. However, when given a reminder of her home she can act a tad more rashly, and when in pursuit of a goal she might be far more emotional and invested in getting it done even when it would be more reasonable to give up. Has a moderate sense of heroics - on the level of a wandering adventurer who helps townspeople, not like a superhero.
  • Backstory: Suffering from a strong case of amnesia, most of Surtr's history is unknown. What is remembered is wandering around a broken world, between villages, lending her sword against whatever brigands and wildlife threaten her.
  • Powers/Abilities: Overall she is superhumanly strong and fit. She can run and jump as well as an Olympic runner or gymnast. While she can easily overpower a dozen men in raw strength, or clear through trees with a swing of her gigantic sword or make multiple jabs it it per second, she isn't strong enough to lift a car over her head. She has some freakish durability, able to take dozens of wounds from "normal" melee hits, crossbow bolts, or bullets, or several more powerful hits straight on. And fire and heat don't seem to have any effect on her, given how she can be wreathed in flames without issue.
    • Molten Flame: She can manipulate existing flames to an extent - the source has to be nearby, such as sword-distance. Since her sword produces flames, thankfully, she can use this to send a wave of flames in a line dozen meters ahead of her. They aren't magically super hot, but they're still fire so they can burn things pretty well - with the blunt force of a quarterback tackling you thrown in for good measure.
    • Remnant Ash: So long as she isn't dead, she's capable of mustering the willpower to ignore her wounds and continue fighting. Unless she has like a muscle severed, I guess. Also it doesn't give her infinite energy, so she can still get tired, just more like a robot that switches from on to off.
    • Molten Giant: She can use magic to form the Earth under her into the shape of a giant stone golem, somewhere in the neighborhood of 15 feet tall and arms just as long. It has incredible durability due to being solid stone, and strength enough to move mountains - figuratively; literally it could do something like heft up a semi-truck and chuck it, and its sword swings cutting through even heavy vehicles. The one downside... is that she only conjures the golem's torso and up out of the stone itself like a tree with roots, so it's stuck where she puts it down, and since she can only control one at a time it takes a few minutes to get the energy back to do it again. And because it is "part" of her she can still send waves of flame from her sword while it swings it for her.
    • Twilight: She can regenerate her body to 100% in the blink of an eye, recovering from all wounds and getting a second wind - once per [very long period of time, either a rest period, between big scenes, overnight, etc].
  • Skills: REALLY good at using a sword - she can even fight with her monster of a sword without much trouble despite it being like twice her height. In fact, she's incredibly knowledgeable about all manner of martial disciplines, that she can excel at being a combat instructor for just about anyone who doesn't use a gun. She also has experience with wilderness survival, and is surprisingly decent at typical handyman work.
  • Equipment: The clothes on her back, and some kind of smartphone thing.
    • Sword: An unnamed sword. It's fucking giant, and made out of an unknown material that is virtually indestructible. It is also able to get really hot, letting it melt through most things (just figure it can cut anything chainsaw-able at the same rate as a powerful chainsaw). And it has a degree of anti-magical penetration, so it can even cut through magical barriers and defenses with the same efficiency.
  • Territory/Followers: None, unless you count that stone giant she sometimes has.

@Nman:

  • What is the max range at which Surtr can manipulate flames, are they hotter than ordinary flames, and what kind of damage can they do at their hottest?
  • Do you anticipate her lost memories are going to be relevant at any point? For example, if I were her, I might use my first wish tablet to regain my lost memories. Please DM or PM me any additional details regarding her past that you know, or let me know whether you'd like that to be something that's impossible for her to wish for with a tablet.

Oh good points. No sources further than the extent of her sword (since she can send flames from her sword so I figured that was the minimum necessary) so within 5 meters of any part of her, or her golem. She can send a wave beyond that, but I mentally imagine it kind of being like throwing a basketball - you're only 'manipulating' it when you possess the ball, even if you throw it further. And just "normal" flames. Her sword itself has that special stuff mentioned, but it's not exceedingly hot when "waved" out. Though I suppose they impart some kinetic force, so I added "with the blunt force of a quarterback tackling you"
