Misused: New York Is Only Manhattan

I have zero TLP sponsoring experience so I can't sponsor.

Maybe we should wait a few days to see if there are any prospective sponsors, and if there aren't, we should just yard the idea and morgue the thread?

Well, if you do decide to make a TLP, read through TLP Guidelines before you do.

Just come up with 2 lines of intro, 2 lines of describing the topic "If the story is set in this country, most likely it's specifically in this district", a section of related tropes like Eiffel Tower Effect, New York Is Only Manhattan, Britain Is Only London, Tokyo Is the Center of the Universe, and about 4-8 examples that don't go in either mentioned. If it's a workable draft, TLP can handle the rest.

I admit, conceptually it's harder to come up with than I've thought, since it relies on showing a specific patterns than an inherent writing choice.

I think I misread your post because I clocked the thread not long after getting out of bed.

Admittedly my original post could've come off as joking, so it's no worries.

I've begun a draft on my sandbox, but I've got nothing re: examples. Nothing rattling around in this brainspace other than uncited sweeping generalizations like "movies in Thailand are likeliest to be set in Bangkok." Requesting assistance if you've got anything!

The problem is that USA, Britain and Japan are way too common, so I'm blanking on examples that aren't already covered by other tropes, for now it's just "it's a Japanese work and the climatic scene unsurprisingly occurs at Shibuya Crossing in Tokyo", or is Brooklyn.

As previously mentioned, Chicago tends to overshadow the rest of Illinois, and I say that as someone who lives in a part of Illinois located southwest of Indianapolis.

I know the feeling 100% because my state's overshadowed by its largest city, too. Got any media examples for Illinois = Chicago?

I can't currently think of any. I was speaking generally.

Likewise, all of Canada tends to be overshadowed by its largest city, Toronto. Some of the examples can be found in Canada Does Not Exist.

So this whole thing is a Trope In Aggregate, right? Because I can't imagine individual examples meaning anything at all.

I would think so, as would pretty much all of the suggested subtropes.

As such, I'm even more at a loss about generating examples, rip.

Examples would be meaningful only if they were somehow discussed in-universe or applied to a Show Within a Show, then?

There's also a common perception that the Republic of Ireland consists in its entirety of Dublin and endless acres of green countryside, though I can't think of any concrete examples right now. Would that fall under this?

We have Oireland as a trope already, I feel like that'd fall under that
