CWC pages and TVTropes

I voted against said option, only because I think it should all be salted.

I added some of the more nuanced options we've discussed to the second crowner.

Curious — should we remove Sonichu from Horrible.Webcomics either way? I mean, the comic is horrible on its own merits, but it might encourage real life commentary, as I think it has in the past.

I don't think anybody wants to keep the drama about CWC herself anywhere on the wiki. It's just whether we should ban her works, even though they can stand on their own without talking about her as a person, like most fictional works can.

While we're here, should we use this as a cleanup thread? There's an example on Muse Abuse about CWC that's connected to her work but it is still about her real life drama. I'm inclined to cut it as it was discussed before.

I think we should probably make a new cleanup thread for this when all is said and done. It can be in Short-Term.

Worth pointing out that the creator page is already on the Permanent Red Link Club, under "CWC".

Right, but that's only the initialized version. The full name that a creator page would actually be under is still, as of this moment, free to make.

That's an older page that wouldn't be made today anyway, due to a lack of a namespace and abbreviated title. I think a preemptive PRLC-ing for the updated titles is just good to cover our bases, lest people try to import drama here.

Obviously there will be no Creator page for CWC. I am agnostic about whether Sonichu should remain on the wiki. On the one hand, it's garbage and nothing would be lost by removing it. On the other hand, "no such thing as notability" does not have exceptions for garbage. It is a publicly available work and it does contain tropes.

I saw an option on the crowner which Word of Mod already covered.

And it's being upvoted anyway, so there's not really any harm there.

I voted in favor of keeping Sonichu and PRLC'ing the creator pages (yes, I know they don't exist at all, but a preemptive lock to avoid creation never hurts).

I'm not at all a fan of Sonichu, to clarify. But the work is tropable and can be described without involving any talks about the creator. I'm sorry if some people disagree with that, but it's my opinion.

Does something need to be done with the ContraPoints pages since one of Natalie's videos discussed the obsession culture regarding Chandler before this incident occurred? I admit I find it notable how the incident makes Natalie's then-strong argument about the horror of the culture accidentally lands weaker today, especially as CWC now stands to become a political scapegoat of the kind discussed later in the same video, but I also understand if it would be better to remove all mentions of the CWC discussion from the Contra pages.

Ah yes, there's Down the Rabbit Hole as well, where there is an entire episode on CWC and Sonichu.

It's possible that we might have to make an exception for works that mention her.

That is a good point, I guess we can allow works that discuss CWC but not allow internal discussion of CWC.

Yeah, we can't go too far with this. Some things need to stay.

Since our main concern is presumably not giving trolls a platform, I think the stuff that analyzes why these trolls behave the way they do is still valid to stay.

But do those videos count as tropeable content? I've seen neither, but if they're just discussing CWC's history, how is it different than troping real life?

Mostly the usage on how they tell that story, which is tropeable in itself. Internet Historian uses a lot of wit in his videos, for example.

The problem is Down the Rabbit Hole is basically a straight, almost video essay series with very little in the way of story. ContraPoints at least has some content that isn't analytical.

Yeah, purely analytical reviews/discussions without any attempt to make them creative works in their own right are not tropable.
