Stock Parody Jokes cleanup

Another "x is bad" example was added to the live-action films page, this time for the Star Wars Holiday Special.

And yesterday, another "x is furry bait" example was added to the animated films page, for Captain Amelia from Treasure Planet.

This redundancy probably wouldn't be as glaring if most of these examples were ever crosswicked.

Blanche is not even non-binary, anyway. It's sort of an Ambiguous Gender situation, and even then only exists in the English version. All other translations lack this aspect of the character entirely.

It was a conservative editor on Bulbapedia who proposed that. There is however no evidence for it, so I will say we go with the non-binary thing. And the only-in-english thing? No. They use female pronouns only in translations whose languages only have male and female pronouns.

Apparently the initial announcement of Blanche used she/her pronouns, so I dunno how canon it is, though I use they/them for convenience sake. Either way it's not relevant to the example, as Blanche isn't the player character, who is the subject of the joke.

I've played Pokémon Go in a different language from English.

I can confirm she's not addressed as, or supposed to be "non-binary" there. It is both an invention of the English translation and not even consistent in there. As pointed out in the post above, other times they use feminine pronouns. They flipflop constantly. The notion that she's non-binary is sort of inferred from certain audiences.

It's Ambiguous Gender at best.

So should I heavily rewrite that entry? Also, I've heard "are you a boy or a girl?" brought up in the same light as Professor Oak not knowing his own grandson's name, as in the joke is that he's an idiot.

Yeah, the "are you a boy or a girl?" line is more often used to paint Oak as a senile idiot.

Done! Also, the Metroid: Other M entry reads like a list of complaints, but I'm not into Metroid.

Oak isn't even the first one who asked it, but that's for another trope.

The origins of "are you a boy or a girl?" are listed on Beam Me Up, Scotty!, but since it gets lumped in with Gen 1 a lot, it might warrant a Newer Than They Think entry?

Probably. I know I used to think it was from Gen 1, because the popular meme involved Oak from Gen 3.

Commented out most of the criticisms on the western animation page.

The Video Games page probably needs help too. This one was just added to the Sonic section:

• Sonic's romance with a human princess in Sonic the Hedgehog (2006).

Even for a SPJ entry, this is really low on context. It's just describing an (albeit ridiculous) element of the game without even telling us what gets parodied.

Dongwa Chan uncommented the Ren and Stimpy example in the western animation page for no explained reason.

Phediuk added a bunch of questionable examples to the animated films page, including "The first film featured two musical numbers by Smash Mouth, who themselves are mocked for being washed-up has-beens" and "Shrek is a meme" under Shrek, and "the movie is bad" under presumably Shark Tale.

Smash Mouth are heavily associated with Shrek nowadays, but I don't think this qualifies as an example.

This is when the line between this and Memetic Mutation starts to get really blurry.

I'm wondering, how often is it joked that Clifford the Big Red Dog causes mass destruction with his size? I think it's common, but I just wanna be sure.

I know Robot Chicken made fun of it, at least.

As the person who added the example, I can confirm I've seen quite a bit of jokes like that. I've also seen jokes about Clifford getting neutured with large equipment even outside of Robot Chicken.

How often are Parental Abandonment jokes made at Max and Ruby?

Never heard any, though that’s partially ‘cause the show isn’t super well-known.

Honestly, if anything, a lot of the examples of this trope seem like jokes people are making up themselves and not jokes that often show up in parodies (ex. “the mushrooms Mario eats are drugs”).
