Oh so they are doing this? Last thing I heard of the GOT spin offs was that they where put on hold after Weiss & Benioff tanked the last season.

You lost!

Another spinoff's pilot was filmed after Benioff & Weiss left (with Naomi Watts I recall), it got rejected. This one will get made, pretty certain at this point since it's been advertised and they BADLY need it to boost HBO Max.

Really hope they don't change too much since it's already a complete story. And please, please, tell D&D to stay the fuck away.

Seriously. This is way more complex of a period in Westeros's history than the original book series was, and while it was written out in detail I don't trust those two with ANYTHING after the way they shit the bed with the last two seasons.

[up]Very much so. IMO, this period is even morally gray (if thats even possible) than the main series and there's less truly "heroic" characters in it. Adam Velaryon, Nettles and Rhaenyra's children are some of the few I can remember. Imagine if D&D got their hands on this. Just makes me shudder.

Benioff and Weiss are gone, Ryan J. Condal and Miguel Sapochnik are showrunning this thing.

Do people even care about Go T anymore? After the last season tanked, it sort of dropped out of the public consciousness.

Well the ending sucking is still a commonly brought up thing but yeah...the show has weirdly dropped off the publics consciousness

I guess when it has a horrible ending you can't really discuss anything about it.

Of course that also puts the future of this show in jeopardy; even if it turns out to be real, getting people to be excited for Game of Thrones again after the original series had such a shitshow of an ending will be a challenge.

Basically, the bad final season not only made people feel like they wasted their time watching the show, but also made clear that some weaker moments in previous seasons were part of a pattern.

Previously, Game of Thrones was "has a few bad bits and you should definitely turn your brain off for the Dorne arc, but I'd still recommend it", while nowadays it's "don't even bother".

Pretty much every show "drops out of public consciousness" after the finale. And finales are rarely satisfying. But GoT is still the second most watched on HBO Max for a reason, I guess. That shit job of an eight season didn't "ruin everything".

People hate the last two seasons so much that they act like the first few seasons were retroactively bad.

I don't support that fan extremism, but that seems to be the thinking.

Not really. From what I've seen its more that all the previous early seasons had this cool foreshadowing and stuff people thought would pay off down the line....then it didn't. This as someone said makes rewatching pointless as you know its not go ing to mean Any thing in the end.

[up][up]They're not entirely retroactivly bad. I still say Season 1-4 are great. But Season 5 is where a lot of the bad writing starts showing it's head and, while not THE WORST like Season 8 was, it's the same problems that just got worse and worse as time went on. THAT's what I think people mean.

And, well, the retroactive nostalgia in the worst way; Earlier seasons are also built on promises of pay off which never happened. It can be hard to watch a show try to sell you on "WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?! OOOOOOOHHHHHHH! SO MYSTERYOUS!" when... it never meant anything.

I can't wait till that prequel's out and all that Ruined FOREVER talk goes away, quite frankly.

I'd think that depends on the quality of the prequel. The Dance is great source material but it could be screwed up fairly easily.

I don't know, shows like Friends, Breaking Bad or Futurama didn't fade away after the finale. As for me, I'll give it a watch, see if I enjoy it. Go T had a fair impact on me.

For those hoping this will be exciting because it's the Dance of Dragons...Viserys I's reign was before the Dance. He's the one who inadvertently sews the seeds for it.

Unless this prequel covers his reign and what follows it, we might not get to see the Dance at all.

I imagine season 1 will be a lot of set up and character establishing. They're not just going to jump right into the conflict. My prediction is that the first season ends with Alicent finding Viserys dead(or killing him herself) and commanding a Small Council meeting where she declares Aegon will be king.

I imagine they'll follow the route of the main show. In the main show we got to see Robert Baratheon in the last days of his reign to snapshot his rule and what would come after. So Viserys I will be our Robert Baratheon: We get to see the very end of his reign with him as a Decoy Protagonist of sorts until he dies at the end of season 1 and the Dance of Dragons kicks off.

Viserys I died when he was in his early 50's and Paddy Considine is in his late 40's. The age fits relatively well.

Do we even know that there's going to be more than one season? I haven't watched Game or Thrones or read the series the show is based off of but from a quick Google search of Viserys I Targaryen it doesn't seem like there's enough material to make multiple seasons unless they decide to adapt more than just his portion of Fire & Blood.

If it includes the Dance, which it almost certainly will, I think they can get at least three seasons out of it. That was an entire third of Fire and Blood.
