I really like him, especially since he's not smug or coming off like a special snowflake. That's the thing that turned me off of Digibro.

That's a good point actually.

Digibro actually has pretty good analysis a lot of the time and some of his stuff is absolute S-rank material (he had a 12 parter on Asterisk War which is really really good and every so often he'll hit it out of the park again).

But every so often he disappears up his own ass and it just makes it hard to watch his videos, especially disappointing given that he tends to have more flat-out analysis than people like Glass Reflection (who is good for starting reccomendations and nothing else) or Gigguk (who is actually really funny but isn't really that insightful).

This is compounded by the feeling I get that Digibro basically does nothing but watch anime, which really limits what he can actually say, whereas SEW is a lot more well rounded. This is especially pertinent when it comes to the industry, where I feel like SEW has a really good grasp and Digibro... just doesn't, and comes across like he thinks that the world should run off of Patreon.

SEW talks like a rehearsed news reporter with bravado and high presentation, however you can tell he practiced enough to get his pacing and pitch down part to the point where it feels natural.

No Crunchyroll, no Patreon... does Digibro like working with ANYONE??

His smooth, soothing tone is exactly why I freaked out when he suddenly raised his voice and started joking in the middle of his Jump 2018 video. evil grin

...? Digibro has Patreon, doesn't he?

I was saying that Digibro thinks "the whole world should run off of patreon" - i.e. only use Patreon and have people directly pay creatives instead of having companies make media and sell it to people.

Digibro totally has a Patreon.

To be on topic, I really enjoy Super Eyepatch Wolf. Found some really good stuff through his My Favorite Things of [Season] videos where he just talks about the stuff he's enjoying, not only in terms of anime but just in general.

So he was a Crunchyroll partner, used them as a sponsor, and even was a guest at their con, so exactly what happened for him to turn a total 180 in under a year?? (yes I know this is the SEW thread, so this is just making me curious)

Digi's problem has always been his egoism. Even back in his Brony Days, he was always kinda infamous for being up his own ass and considering himself top shelf contributor in the analysis community and shitting on everyone else - even when he makes good analysis points.

I never got that feeling from SEP, he just is so chill and calming and actually acknowledges when he fucks up with stuff.

On SEW's recent video: Grappler Baki actually looks like something I'd enjoy as a long time JoJo fan. The grotesque muscular detail of the bodies and the insanity of the plotlines reminds me a lot of Battle Tendency era JoJo, and I do love BT era JoJo. He does a really good job of selling it to me.

Digibro once made a video for the purpose of complaining about why no one makes anime reviews "just like he does" as if he wrote the manual on it, and viewers did NOT take it well.

SEW does indeed take this gig a lot more professionally. I don't know a whole lot about his personal life, or how he got into this job, but I suppose that's for the best, because your personal life SHOULD NOT be related to your job!

Holy shit, can you stop talking about Digibro or other anime youtubers? I don't have a problem with the guy but enough is enough.

YOU should probably reread the part several posts ago where I said "I know this is the SEW thread..."

That doesn't matter when you continue to be off-topic just to complain about something man. You can just make a Digibro thread instead.

Well the more you mention his name, the more you're again doing the thing you want people to stop doing, so great job.

With that out of the way, should I wait for the current anime to be finished or should I just read the manga if I want to experience Baki the Grappler?

I'd say to watch the first ova and the first two seasons of the anime, then read from the Escaped prisoners arc, because the art from those points in the manga is pretty hard to looks at or keep up with, even when compared to later arcs.

The new anime will be on netflix soon, so if you want to binge it when it comes out and then read the arcs after it, thats also a good idea.

Is it bad that I find the faces in Grappler Baki unavoidably nightmarish?

I think that's the expected reaction so no.

The art is extremely fucked up & I believe its all on purpose.

Understandable. I know people who personally can't watch Jojo or One Piece because their unusual styles make it hard for people to watch and that's totally fine.

Hence why Grappler Baki doesn't completely fade me because I saw how Araki drew men back in the 80s and it is very similar.

Why does nobody bring up that the author of Baki has literal concussive brain damage? Might go a ways to explain why he draws people the way he does...

Probably because it sounds like an insult, because the art is pretty good overall. Baki displays the ugliness of brutal combat, but it goes the extra step of making the combatants themselves 'ugly.'
