Fort Triumph is a Tactical RPG funded through Kickstarter that takes gameplay influence from the X-COM series with a sense of humour.

A bit of early game-play:

Does it have XCOM-style base building? The "fort" in the name implies that it does, but I didn't see anything about it in the screenshots on the Steam page.

Do you research your enemies? Feels like XCOM's being used as a byword for "Tactical turn based combat" and not the rest of what makes XCOM XCOM.

[up][up][up] A few stories are saying "there's no base to upgrade, but there is an overworld map straight out of a Heroes of Might and Magic game".

The dev team seem to think it resembles X-COM, it's called "Fantasy XCOM" in it on kickstarter and official website. Honestly I think that more people think of the turn-based-cover-shooting then the base-building when making comparisons like they did with Hard West or Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle.

XCOM comparisons are just probably because turn-based tactics otherwise ain't hugely popular out west, they're not sure if BATTLETECH's big enough to namedrop, and they might for whatever reason prefer to avoid a Turn-based RPG comparison like Fire Emblem. Aside from those, I'd say everything else's is very niche in the turn-based tactics genre, even if there's an entire genre of turn-based wargames getting still made out there.

Hmm yeah, if its just tactical strategy game, then its not XCOM since XCOM's uniqueness comes from having both strategic and tactical layer. Like Massive Chalice is much more of XCOM-esque game in comparison

Well, the game's out of early access. Reviews are trending positive. I'm not buying it yet, though, because it's not on sale and XCOM: Chimera Squad is coming out in a week.

Has anyone tried it?
