That is some of the dumbest shit I've heard in a while.

I remember TFS reviewing King's Game as part of Anime FMK, and they were thoroughly entertained by how shlocky and ridiculous it got.

I must say, I didn’t expect to hear Luigi's Mansion used as a euphemism for hanging yourself today, but here we are.

Also didn’t expect him to describe this anime as”Final Destination if its parents were cousins.”

I swear, Geoff is a fucking poet.

Listening to some of those line deliveries I have to wonder if the dub actors were deliberately playing up the trash factor.

Oh, some of them definitely knew what a hot mess the script was and decided to ham it up, mark my words.

… You know, I suddenly remembered a manga that had a similar-ish premise as well as a similar name: Oukoku Game. But that one actually established from the get-go that the game was of a supernatural nature, where [X] groups of about 6 students each from different parts of Japan were roped into it. They were also assigned roles of peasant, noble (I think) and king, and whoever was the king had to give out orders to the others that they had to follow. The roles weren’t permanent, either, but actually switched between the students. There were other rules that I don’t exactly remember, but the end result of not following them was the same: Death.

And that one started out with rather tame orders before things escalate… In ways I’m sure you can imagine. Also, the obligatory Ax-Crazy Yandere is actually the first to die. So, that was new.

I didn’t finish it, so while the initial premise was at the very least entertaining, I don’t know if it dropped the ball later or if it was cancelled or whatever. Either way, maybe that one deserved an anime adaptation, too.

The dub smacks of the voice director going 'we're just doing one take unless you flub it.'

Death Game shows are pretty schlocky by design, but this entire King's Game series isn't even so bad its good really. Just badly written and only remotely entertaining because of the dub actors just going ham.

Dunno, the girl going immediately yandere smile. The whole "It's a virus (?) that turned into a computer virus and I guess along the way learned irony?" definitely goes into "So bad it's good"

I’m still hung up on that one boy getting knocked out and… violated, let’s say, by the girlfriend.

Honestly I dont know which part is weirder. The knocked out and rape-him-to-rescue him, or that Protag-Kun offloads this to the girlfriend despite it being his idea coz like, no homo I guess?

Whoever wrote this was clearly working their way through some weird personal fetishes.

Fair enough. It's a matter of vibes at the end of the day. Either way I think we can both agree there's plenty of Bile Fascination to go around here.

Eh, 2009 sensibilities make that pretty unsurprising. Hell, even 2023 Jeff posits that what the King considers sex might be pretty specific and with 30 minutes to go, there's no time to go down a checklist.

I wondered why I didn’t remember any of the scenes Geoff showed until I realized the anime I had seen (a bit of) was Darwin's Game.

Still, from what he showed, I feel like half of the unintentional (?) comedy comes from the dub.

That will be the VAs trying to salvage it.
