It was really a show which was needed but needed everyone BUT Roseanne.
My love of Sarah Gilbert is blinding, though.
Since she was the snarky teen Goth Deadpan Snarker I grew up with.

Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters. As a sort of modern-day All in the Family, I can definitely see value in a show like this. Never has there been a more important time for the premise, "Relatable main character is a racist, sexist, homophobic asshole, but is shown the error of their ways." As I've said before, it might sound stupid that you need to explain to people things like, "Black children should not be shot seventeen times for answering the front door with a Wiimote in their hand," but...like...that's the culture we live in.
It's dumb as shit that people think that's okay. But they do. And if we aren't willing to have that conversation, they're going to continue thinking it's okay. This is, like, kindergarten-level social education, but having a likable character who they can look at and go, "Hey, that person is me!" and then walking them through basic Right and Wrong through that character's eyes could do so much good for our culture.
But Roseanne Barr was the worst person to play that character, because she's actually one of those dickweeds that actually needs these lessons. With that in mind, I really hope that proposal to continue the show but cut Roseanne out of it and give someone else the title credit goes through. I think this reboot could do a lot of good as long as she's not in it.

My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.If I was going to do DARLENE.
I'd have Darlene be the person who is the single mother of two who struggles financially and makes most of the deadpan snarks. I would also have Becky and Dan struggle to be the people who have a lot of toned down racist as well as classicist beliefs.
That way you could still do the show without the complete failure.
Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters.Roseanne is coming back, minus Roseanne. Now it's The Conners (working title).
Might be worth watching. The old show was great before Rosanne got full of herself.
Yeeeeeees.
I'll watch for more Darlene and Dan.
-really need to get back to watching the rest of the first season, I'd kind of lost hope on that thinking the show was canceled and those storylines would never be finished-

I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!I just hope that the explanation for Roseanne not making an appearance is a suitably humiliating one. Something like "she's in prison" or something.
Disgusted, but not surprisedShe died. She dosed herself on Ambien and went driving one night. Bad combination.
I hope they go with this
I like Roseanne Connor.
Just not Roseanne Barr.
I'm fully capable of blaming her opiod addiction and/or early onset dementia for her sudden Rightward trend.
Sadly, she passed away after wondering, "What the hell was I doing?"

I mean I didn't think she was just going to go on vacation for a really long time before making a surprise guest appearance in the series finale. Honestly, even without the controversy I think this would have been a great storytelling direction:
- It's ironic - Dan was resurrected in this new season only for Roseanne to be killed in the sequel show.
- The family losing its matriarch so abruptly hammers in just how turbulent and unfair life can be - something the old show loved to do what with Jackie's domestic abuse, Dan's heart attack, Becky leaving home, etc - and would present another poignant obstacle for the Connors to overcome
- The Big Bang Theory made me realize how awful of an idea it is to build shows around a single person, and The Connors is axing the former lead character - granted, more out of necessity than anything - but still, it feels all subversive and junk. ^_^

I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!It's good to kill her off instead of put her on a bus, because that definitively closes the door. Obviously, as Dan demonstrated, it's not impossible to unkill a character, but it's still a blunt statement that says, "She is gone, she is no longer a part of this, and she is never coming back."

Wake me up at your own risk.Roseanne Barr deserves exactly as much respect as she showed other people.
(While on Ambien, of course.)
Let her character die choking on a Trump Steak.

"You can reply to this Message!"I would be so happy if her cause of death is something like "choked on an Ambien pill".
My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.You can't be petty about this sort of thing, though. That will just validate the people like Roseanne Barr who think all leftists are unfairly prejudiced and cruel against right-wingers.
Ideally, Roseanne the character will be replaced by a Suspiciously Similar Substitute Trump supporter who will have all the plotlines about learning to overcome racism and so on, but will be played by someone who isn't going to go on a racist rant that gets her fired. I really can't emphasize enough that we need a Trump supporter who learns their lesson instead of just getting their comeuppance. Punishing them just convinces the real people like them that leftists are assholes, progressiveness is a sham, and equality is white slavery.
People are supposed to be taught this sort of crap in preschool, but obviously our education system dropped the ball in the past few decades, so the media has to step up and do their best.
Not having that character be
- The star of the show
- Played by someone who's legitimately far-right crazy
- Directly involved in the production
might also help avoid shit like Roseanne threatening a Muslim family on their doorstep.

Anyone think that the show will be more dramatic? I mean, character-wise, Dan just lost the love of his life, they cant just go back into normal antics after that. I see the show veering more into the dramedy direction.
Yeah, and you should never have been a racist conspiracy theorist. Yet here we are.

My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.Uh, so question, should we create a new thread for "The Conners", or just continue discussion here?
Watched the pilot.... Not a whole lot to say other than the pilot just being about establishing that Roseanne is dead (and now I wish I had made actual bets with people that Roseanne OD'ed on meds as I really could have used the money).
Someone want to explain the "reincarnation" joke? Do religious people really say that if you believe in reincarnation, you'll go to Hell? Huh?

If I had a nickel for every film where Emma Stone falls off a balcony... I'd only have two nickels, but weird that there's two of them.I.... hm.
I mean.
Eh, my vote's for a new thread.
