Are those actual stance systems in the suggestion, though, or are they just different stances that character can do? The current's not great but I'm not ready to give the suggestion a firm vote.
Yes, Gen's the quintessential stance change character in fighting games. He not only just changes stats, but also movesets. And we actually see a visual change from his idle fighting stance. Others I can think of right now that also has that is May Lee from King Of Fighters and her Tae Kwon Do <-> Hero stance as seen here.

The OP suggestion is alright, though it is a huge improvement from the current.
I'll throw in another possibility in the meantime: Pokémon's Aegislash◊, which has both Blade and Shield stances present.

she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportYep, Aegislash works too.
so any finale?
Current is pretty bad.
I think OP is clearer than Aegislash, which might just look like a Cool Sword with two configurations to people unfamiliar with the 'mon. It's also a great improvement over current.
We could do one of the PS 2 era Mortal Kombat games.
You could have an image macro of all three stances with the indicator visible side by side.
Any pics of it? Not familiar with MK games.
Clock is set. Voting to pull the current if we can't find a decent replacement.
Remove the current, at least.
(Annoyed grunt)I don't think the current does more than confuse the matter. Pull.
Check out my fanfiction!Definitely pull current.
Aegislash could work if we list the formes' stats next to the pictures.
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?Crowner's hooked.
Hmm what's a good pic showing all of its stats per form?
Bulbapedia has pretty and easy to understand stat graphs, though using those might require permission. (I'd link the Aegislash page for an example, but our site breaks Bulbapedia URLs half the time.)

If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?Since I happen to be a Bulbapedia staff member myself, I could play messenger if we want to use the graphs. Alternatively, I may cook something up in a sandbox there and go from there.
Judging by how the crowner's going, that may not be necessary.

she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportIt works without one.
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?Yeah, no caption.
she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportI'm good without a caption, too. Going ahead and locking.
Crown Description:
Nominations for replacement images:
Or rather, Just a Face and a Menu.
Anyway, as much as I love Devil May Cry and its introduction to various moveset in a stylish action game, the image really is a poor representation of it since it's just well, a menu.
I suggest for a better image, in particular something from Capcom too: Gen's stances◊. Fitting too since he's arguably the pioneer of the system in a traditional fighting game.
