I've always thought the trope image for this page should be one of those scenes where a character is supposed to have lost a hand and it's just incredibly obvious that the actor is just hiding it in their sleeve. Like the scene at the end of Return of the Jedi, where Darth Vader's lost his hand but he's clearly got his arm bent at the wrist.
That could work, although it does not have to be an easy to see movie mistake, if the effects look really fake then it would work.
