So cleaning the wicks now. Since we have mostly moved away from focusing on real life law, should anything be done to these entries on Artistic License – Law?

  • Jail Bait: The age of consent varies considerably from jurisdiction to jurisdiction, and many locales have "Romeo and Juliet" laws to keep teens from getting charged with statutory rape, but SoCalization leads to many writers assuming it's 18 everywhere.
    • The Jailbait Wait: See above, but this typically presents a good case for grooming, which is extremely illegal and very likely to gain you an entry on a sex offender registry.

[up][up] Remove both, as Jail Bait as a concept (of getting into legal trouble by involving underage people in something the law bans underage people from doing) is still a legal reality regardless of the age threshold. It can be a cause of Artistic License – Law (by getting the qualifications for being Jail Bait wrong) but it is not by itself Artistic License.

On another note, does refusing to serve alcohol to an underage person because the server knows that the other person is underage also count as The Jailbait Wait?

I am pretty certain this trope is meant to be limited to the sexual stuff, and there is no "waiting" involved there, either.

Yeah the trope doesnt cover that.

I cleaned the wicks up to Characters/ (did some wicks of that too). Might do more tomorrow.

Picking up on this again, made a pass through V-Z. ~MacronNotes, which parts of the namespace alphabet did you cover?

BTW, I've decided to not go ahead with a Hollywood Age Of Consent trope as there were too few examples to make a case, but if someone wants to try here's the writeup I was considering:

!Please don't just propose examples; also comment on whether this trope should be separate from Hollywood Law

In fiction, it is often assumed that the age of consent - age at which sexual intercourse is legal - is 18 everywhere. In live-action TV or films that can be due to SoCalization as California is one of the not many polities where it is in fact 18.

Subtrope of Hollywood Law.

Film

  • 25th Hour: Jacob mentions that he’s attracted to one of his students. Frank tells him that he only needs to wait seven months. The age of consent in New York is 17.

Live-Action TV

  • On How I Met Your Mother, after Ted reveals that he and Victoria have decided to date for a month before having sex, Barney comments, "The only reason to wait a month for sex is if she's 17 years 11 months old." The series is set in New York where the age of consent is actually 17.
  • A Friends episode that aired in 2001 had Joey hit on a woman who revealed she was 16 years old. His response? "See you in 2003." The series is set in New York where the age of consent is actually 17.
  • House is set in New Jersey where the age of consent is 16, and yet:
    • In an episode of , a 17-year-old is smitten with House and gives him a calendar counting down the days 'til she's 18.
    • In another episode House snarks that no one can touch a supermodel patient for three years because she's 15.

[up][up] I did everything up to Characters-R. I will try to get to Film/ tomorrow.

So I found this entry on Rerum Danarae and its a mess. The original doesn't get to the point of the trope. Should I comment it out or just delete it with a edit reason?

  • The Jailbait Wait: Also inverted as Andrea waits until after her surgery that Kuzan assists with then pursues him with blackmail and guilt. Situation is referred to much later with a great amount of awkwardness on both ends.
    • His Cheating Heart/Sexual Extortion/Questionable Consent: Played for Laughs, deconstructed, and then played for laughs again in how people refer to it. The entire incident is made worse by the fact that Kuzan was married at the time and basically only gave in because his wife had been MIA for over a year at that point [after a mission that had already taken another year], making the otherwise cheerful man rather depressed and lonely, thus it being a case of Andy taking advantage. Cue in a week later Theodora turning up again. He was a mess for weeks, especially since Theo took it fairly well, and had to be kept away from alcohol (which was troublesome as both Theo and Kuzan have a penchant for enjoying fine alcohol). It is played for laughs whenever Luffy refers to it.
      • To his credit, Kuzan did not take her to his marital bed, but a storage room, and had enough of his wits about him to be gentle. In Theo’s own words, it was his body that betrayed him and her, not his heart, letting the entire incident border on rape.
      • My God, What Have I Done?: When Theo points out to her that she hasn’t just been taking advantage of Kuzan four years ago, this is what Andy has a moment of.

^^Seems like, but with the film and How I Met Your Mother I am not sure if it was actually made in California; I think SoCalization has to actually be made in SoCal.

^Delete that. It's not even remotely clear that there is any waiting involved, much less an age-based waiting.

Imma tackle Pantheon and the namespaces below that one.

Also, is it just me or does SoCalization also need a trip to TRS? There are only generic examples and the Related To tab contains Visual Novel, books and video games.

By the by I did clean up all wicks to CodeGeassThePreparedRebellion/; ~MacronNotes, did you deal with the Characters/ wicks?

Also did a rewrite to Laconic. The Jail Bait Wait which should make it more accurate.

Lead section seems OK. Is the laconic OK? If it is, we can probably close this. Although we might want to have a thread for SoCalization, per comments above.

The laconic is fine.

Jail Bait Wait is a redirect for The Jailbait Wait and is where the other 200+ wicks for the trope is at. So maybe we should sweep through that too.

I also would like to bring Jail Bait to the TRS for the same issues had with real life legal fluff in the description and examples. I am not exactly sure what the scope of it is and how to write a sentence on The Jailbait Wait on how it relates to that trope.

Wow. I completely forgot the Jail Bait Wait wicks. I'll have to remedy that later. I agree with sending Jail Bait to TRS for description fixing, too.

OK, got these wicks as well. Since the definition is now clear and the wicks clean, we can close this.

I'll bring SoCalization to TRS and ~MacronNotes can bring Jail Bait there too if they are so inclined.
