I didn't see a thread for him. So we can discuss him here.

Generally, when making a OP for a work/creator, explaining what or who the subject is for those not in the know is a good idea. Since I am in the know....

Emile Rosales-Birou aka Chuggaaconroy is a YouTuber who is one of the seminal people behind the idea of Let's Play (even if he isn't all that well known these days). He was the first one to be allowed to monetize his videos (to make money off ad revenue), and for about a year and a half had the biggest Let's Play channel on YouTube (before a certain Swedish man came along and hit it big). He mostly focuses on family friendly Nintendo-based content.

I don't deny his influence, but from what I've seen I feel he's not critical enough of Nintendo's weaker games and ideas. So...not my thing, but whatever suits you.

I quite like him, myself! He tends to treat his Let's Plays as game guides more than Let's Plays and it's nice how informative he is about everything in the game. The amount of work he puts into his videos is admirable, too, with things like pop-ups detailing enemy stats and the like being frequent in his RPG videos.

He usually plays games that he feels need more love or games that mean something to him, so combined with his upbeat attitude on everything I'm not surprised about how much he skims on criticism. Heck, the past two games he's played in a row (The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword and as of today Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time) were picked mostly because of how they're respectively a really divisive game and a game that's forgotten compared to the ones right before and after it. I'm not surprised he'd understate their issues since he mainly wants to show the strong points in the games he plays.

Or maybe he doesn't feel like what some people feel are "weaker games and ideas" are all that bad, hence why he isn't as critical as some other people might be?

I mean he does know the points people make. I do wish he mention the cons of the games he L Ps more. I also don't like the comments on episodes where the whole thing is a cutscene

People not sharing your opinions is something you have to live with.

He has also been very vocal about his hatred for Paper Mario: Sticker Star, so one can't really accuse him being totally biased.

Yeah, I think the impression that he's super soft on Nintendo comes from the fact that he only Let's Plays games he loves. Heck, I remember his Pikmin 2 review ended with him taking an episode to discuss that his opinion of it had changed during his playthrough and he found it much weaker the second time.

Surprised it's taken so long for someone to create a thread, especially since Chugga has outright talked about this very site before. Looking forward to watching Partners in time, since it was my first Mario & Luigi game, so I have plenty of nostalgia towards it.

Can't wait to hear about his childhood again.

Vocal hatred is in itself a bias.

That's not positive bias...

I'd assumed that my intended meaning was that he's not completely biased towards all things Nintendo was clear, but, sure, we can nitpick if you like.

I've watched Chugga's videos for a long time, although I tend to get distracted a lot and have a bad habit of dropping series about 30 episodes in when i get backlogged.

He's really the only Let's Player I follow properly, not counting ones I watch an episode here and there when deciding if I should buy the game.

I think I've also gone out and brought about 7-8 games as a direct result of Chugga's videos.

I like Chugga because I can sometimes relate to him. Especially the parts in highschool where people made fun of him for playing Pokemon (though it was in middle school for me)

From watching Chugga for 7-8 years, you can tell he's a very positive person and wants to focus on the good aspects of any game he Let's Plays. Admirable, but it also makes it more interesting to me to hear what he dislikes about certain games.

Stuff like Pikmin 2 not being as good as he remembered it to be, his hatred of Sticker Star, how he doesn't like Okamiden as much as when he LP'd it (mentioned this one offhand in of the TRG L Ps),

Anyway, thing I like the most about Chugga is how earnest he is and it's evident the heart he puts in his videos. You're sure to be informed and entertained by his videos.

Has anyone here played Partners in Time on the Wii U?

The first few episodes of this have made me want to pick it up, since its the only Mario & Luigi game I don't have.

But I'm not sure if I should go for the (more expensive and hard to find) option of buying a second hand copy or just buy it on the eshop.

Randomness is playing it...

Is fine port.

How about using the two screens?

Does it work reasonably well with the options they give?

That;s my main worry about it.

I never used the DS Virtual Console

I think it works reasonably well, though switching screen options may be necessary at points...

I hasn't needed to yet.

I wound up buying the eshop version once I realized I was going to have to pay at least 2.5 times as much for a preowned copy that I can't even guarantee is genuine.

I just beat the Vim Factory, and tomorrow I'll try to get ahead of the play-though.

EDIT: That also makes the 8th game I've brought as a direct result of Chugga's Let's Plays.

I bought Majora's Majora's Mask Pikmin 3, and Animal Crossing New Leaf as a result of Chugga's L Ps. I had Kid Icarus, Platinum, and Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon when he did the L Ps
