The initial posting might not be real, doesn't mean there aren't people who signed it seriously. I get not feeding the trolls and all, but when they rope in people who honestly believe their jokes, you have to step in and slap that shit down.

ETA: Yeah . . . considering how bad Gamergate got, you can bet your ass that troll probably has idiot followers who either don't get it or don't care that it's a trolling thing.

If it was real, I'd be very concerned that anyone would be THAT dumb. But considering it hasn't even been signed by that many people, I wonder why this is even newsworthy.

I'm in agreement. This smells like bullshit.

"Appropriation of our culture" - this has to be some kind of bad joke, and in this context bad means incompetent. This is meaningless word-salad poorly pieced together from half-remembered snatches of rhetoric from various political movements.

"Continued rejection of romantic partners" makes me even more suspicious. What, are we still in the 1980s? Gaming is a mainstream hobby now, and a massive industry. It's become legitimized. And that's ignoring the fact that the "lul nerd has no girlfriend" is a dumb stereotype applied to gamers from the outside, and that no self-respecting gamer would willingly apply to themselves. It's ridiculous.

It is, they've already said it was an obvious troll and should never have been reported. It was an incompetent reporter that did it, since they actually left it to the viewers to discover the trolling in the first place. Sounds like a stupid coverup for their own incompetence in not getting the whole story from the start.

ETA: For context on where I'm coming from, taking this seriously, I live in West Virginia. The shit I hear honestly coming out of peoples' mouths around me some days would have you people feeling mixed between rolling on the floor in hysterical laughter, and wondering if it's possible to turn entire counties into mental institutions.

Reactionaries are weird like that. It's not because society at large agrees near-unaimously that their beliefs make them abhorrent human beings, it's got to be society at large splitting hairs over some tiny issue that makes the reactionaries look bad.

Which ties into how their talking points are utterly inane or insane when placed under scrutiny. Trying to satirise them is how to get the strongest invocation of Poe's Law you can find these days.

the only real tell is that the hit all the reactionary talking points in one paragraph. Each of these in isolation is a thing that has actually been whined about. It's not even good satire because there's no real point: are you mocking people who take those issues seriously or mocking people who think people take those issues seriously?

If I got script doctoring duty I'd keep the focus on how the author of the petition is clearly just uncomfortable murdering people who sorta look like him but totally fine killing black people. Maybe drop a comment about how black lives matter are the real racists if you want to attract the alt right crowd to it.

I've read the first two then dropped out of the series until I know for sure they pick the naval arc back up. That's the one that interested me the most.

Big reason I don't like trolls is because they muddy up the water. Sure, someone with critical thinking skills and the right knowledge can see the tells, but there's people of all stripes and doing stuff like this just posts a huge sign saying "This is your stop!" to anyone who genuinely believes what the troll is attacking. Various authors can tell horror stories about real life insane fans sending them letters or causing them to go into hiding for a while (Mercedes Lackey and her Jinx High comes to mind. Poor woman spent years avoiding cons for safety reasons.)

Back to the topic at hand . . . It's gonna be real fun watching future Top Ten lists on Youtube after this one's had a while to percolate through pop culture. That's how I've seen various things about the others like Pagan Min in 4, Vas in 3, and just about all of Blood Dragon in its 80s era glory.

See if a Party get two consecutive terms then it's gonna be all but guaranteed that the the opposite party will win the next election. America will never be completely conservative or liberal, it will always swing to either side(because the other parties don't matter).

Trump won because the Democratic establishment were ignorant a-holes who ignored HRC's rock bottom opinion rating with the people who really matter in American elections i.e most of the voters who live in what the Democrats disrespectfully call "Flyover Country", and decided beforehand that she was going to be their candidate for President regardless of who else stood in the primaries. If they'd been smart, and picked Sanders, they still may have lost but the electoral college wouldn't have been the bloodbath that it was for Clinton.

Instead the joke candidate among all those that stood for office managed to win.

Firstly this is completely off topic. Secondly the DNC did not pick Clinton the primary voters did, so do you have such a disrespect for Democracy that you don't care what the voters want? Furthermore you cannot make any kind of prediction on Sander's possible performance, for all we know he could've done worse. Regardless this isn't the place for such discussion, the US political thread is where we should do it.

and actual dog fighting! Probably going to be cribbing the system from primal with a few extra commands. That game was really uneven but sneaking about with your jaguar ripping dudes throats out from the shadows was so fun I'm hoping we can manage it here.

I'm hoping we get the gyrocopter back. Being your own personal attack chopper was hella fun.

I bet a lot of people are going to be taking advantage of the fact that you can actually play the whole game in co-op now.

I'm just curious what that WWII dive bomber-esque plane in the art and trailers is.

On the gameplay thing, I don't really see them making any drastic changes in the new instalment. Ubisoft have a house formula for these games, it works, and they sell in large amounts, plus DLC and Season Packs. The critics can mock the games, and they do, but it has pretty much no effect on sales numbers. Co-op won't affect me personally, as it's something I usually ignore, but there will be a lot of people who will use that option, if their latest release in the Ghost Recon franchise is anything to go on.
