The Scorpion King comics could be numerous stories revolving around Mathayus, and him going on different adventures like in the movies.

Well, he is basically an Akkadian Conan, and Dark Horse has done stories on TSK already, so they can easily get him rolling again. In a similar vein, Van Helsing was a slightly more modern Solomon Kane, so there's room for him too. The main distinction I'd bank on would be the supporting cast, as the Robert Howard heroes aren't known for being too social. So, the thief, the scientist and the sorceress for Mathayus, and Carl the friar for Van Helsing, would best be a permanent addition.

My idea for a Scorpion King comic would be showing the events that lead to his army's defeat and him "selling his soul" to Anubis.

The Mummy Returns painted him as a bad guy but his own movie painted him as a decentish guy, so in my telling I would show he had a perfectly good reason to go to war and didn't so much sell his soul as much as receive Anubis's blessing(or, perhaps, Set's curse). Basically, I'd show that he never stopped being decentish and that The Mummy Returns version of the story was in fact slander. Still, given that there was that whole special spear made to kill him deal going on and that Anubis's armies seemed to be pretty bloodthirsty when left to their own devices, my guess is that Set screwed everything up in a gambit to frame Anubis and the Scorpion King was an unfortunate mortal who got caught up in it.

My take is the guy from The Mummy Returns is probably the identical grandson of Mathayus. Mythology can be fuzzy like that, y'know. Ditto name-dropping Anubis or even Set, given how the story takes place at least a thousand years before the Egypt unification war that gave the latter a villain upgrade. The non-theatrical sequels also hint at Mathayus having a bunch more adventures while losing his original kingdom, so the actual soul-selling may take a while, if it ever comes around altogether. Still, they do make decent proof of concept for an adventure comic series.
