The current image is a smirk and a caption; which is a step above JAFAAC on account of demonstrating smugness, but still doesn't demonstrate that it's unwarranted. I have an alternative in mind; Burns acting smug, getting humiliated, and then acting smug again.

I don't see Burns as an improvement.

Neither do I; that's completely reliant on the caption to get the smugness across. The current is a bit too literal but he at least looks sorta smug.

Here's some other options: Gladstone Gander, Reche from Kubera

Current is passable if only for the Visual Pun, while none of the suggestions are doing it for me.

Would the suggestion fit better under Failed Dramatic Exit?

The character in the current image looks smug enough; keep the current. Also, yeah, suggestion is probably better in Failed Dramatic Exit.

The trope isn't just about smugness, though, it's about unwarranted smugness.

I was considering using the defeats of Jafar, Jabba, or Falcone, but those might border on too spoilerish for a page image, so for now I'll just go for a literal smug snake, Kaa, and a less-plot-crucial moment of "unwarranted smugness" early in the film.

EDIT: And a second version with his head in the coils instead of sticking out of them.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/smugsnakekaa2.png

EDIT again: As for Failed Dramatic Exit, I've since created a thread for that one too.

I want to see the Jabba image. If it's good enough to use, I doubt anybody is going to actually care about spoilers because of Pop-Cultural Osmosis.

[up] Actually, I gave that as a reason not to bother editing them in the first place. They were the most obvious examples that came to mind for me for Smug Snake, but it'd be spoilerish to picture them; and in Jabba's case, somewhat squicky; and as it turns out, unclear as well.

I suppose another option would be Trixie...

We could just add a second picture of Sir Hiss being incompetent. [1] or [2] seem to get the point across.

12.2 is funnier. Let's add that to current.

12.2 is already used on another trope page, which I cannot remember the name of (something with snakes wrapped around poles).

If you mean Knotty Tentacles, apparently the pic for that isn't working anyway.

Knotty Tentacles is the trope in question. I'm not inclined to remove it from that page, as it fits so well there.

Edit: And ninja'd. Apparently I am too slow.

12.2 is the image of Hiss after he got hit by the mirror. 12.1 is the image you're talking about.

Well, here's smug Sir Hiss juxtaposed with Sir Hiss... next to broken glass. (Not sure what's going on, nor sure I want it spoiled should I ever get around to that movie.)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/smugsnakesirhiss.png

I prefer my idea featuring Kaa, not so much out of fan myopia as avoiding distracting ambiguity as to what happened.

He clearly got smashed by the mirror. That scene also happens pretty early on, so it's not a spoiler.

[up] Or smashed the mirror by falling onto it. Or fell into already-broken glass. I get that the shocked expression and broken glass suggests some level of humiliation of him, and I consider the "distracting" ambiguity only a flaw, not a disqualifier.

Another non-spoilerish example that comes to mind is Wile E. Coyote.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/smugsnakewilee.png

Should we set up a crowner, or wait until we have more images?

Maybe it's because I'm on mobile, but the image quality of Wile E. Coyote suggestion looks bad.

I do think a crowner might be in order.

You know, instead of a broken mirror... How about something a bit more earlier like Sir Hiss being strangled by King John?

And there's a collection of pictures of Sir Hiss to use here.

Looks like Wile E Coyote's well in the lead. Never thought I'd say that. tongue
