It's still RTDE, but downplayed.
MAX POWER KILL JEEEEEEEEWWWWWI don't think whether the fans dislike the character is relevant. What is is that it's a non-villain character who gets villainified by fans. As the trope mentions, it can be done for comedy.
Check out my fanfiction!RTDE is supposed to be a general pattern of fan works turning a specific character evil, not just FaceāHeel Turn But In A Fan Fic.
I don't see how the motivation of fans doesn't matter. As I understand it, Ron the Death Eater is about fans demonizing a character. So if fans like making a particular character evil, but don't hate the character, I don't think it would fall under Ron the Death Eater. If anything, wouldn't those examples would count as Draco in Leather Pants, because the motivation is usually Evil Is Cool or Evil Is Sexy?
Ron the Death Eater is definitely supposed to be about fan-hostility-driven demonization. Otherwise it would just be Adaptational Villainy IN A FANFIC, which is not a tropeworthy distinction.
Edit: Also, this thread was apparently a month old.

So Ron the Death Eater is supposed to be where fans demonize a character, usually because they don't like them in canon. However, I've noticed that some characters get the Ron the Death Eater treatment, not because people hate the character, but because they think the character is more interesting if they're evil. For instance, I've noticed that there's a lot of focus in the Incredibles fandom on Violet turning evil. There's also fans want Ron from Kim Possible to adopt his Zorpox persona. I guess Dubcon fics would technically be an example. Does anyone have any other examples of this? Is this still Ron the Death Eater, or is there another trope for this?
