OK, this looks kinda awesome. Why is nobody talking about it?

Lol, Batman stealing the spotlight again.

Mostly because we don't have any trailer/promotional material to go with it, until now. It's kind of the reason why there is no Teen Titans Judas Contract thread yet even though it was announced as the sequel to that Justice League vs. Teen Titans movie.

Anyway, this marks the second time Batman hijacked another DC team's animated movie (Suicide Squad). Well at least he have the excuse to be in it as most of the team's line up happen to magic characters he usually team up with in comics and cartoons (Zatanna, Etrigan, Deadman).

But yeah this is definitely going to be awesome. I always enjoy comic related things that dwell in the mystic and horror . . . When is Dr. Strange released again?

For Zatanna it looks like they went "let's make her look as much like Wonder Woman as possible."

Besides the different hairstyle, yeah they do look strikingly similar.

Here I thought the DCAU are guilty of the same face treatment with their female characters

For some reason I kept on thinking 'Hinata' at Zatanna's look.

[up]Ah that must've been why I really liked her look.

I didn't dig the hair style. The fact it immediately reminded me of Wonder Woman instead of being a really good zatanna hair style is probably why.

I think what Sunchet is trying to say is that the use of Batman in this movie is an obvious Wolverine Publicity move as originally he wasn't really a vocal point in the creation of the team. This is no different from that Batman Arkham Assault movie, when in spite of the promotion making it a Batman movie it is really a Suicide Squad film.

Yeah, JL appears in movie, but watch the trailer again and see which super hero shows up in shots with supposed main characters.

To be honest, I actually like Jason O'Mara as Batman, and believe that he would be a great substitute for Kevin Conroy as the latter ages. It's just unfortunate that the O'Mara Batman's films have suffered from too much attention being given to Damian, which seems to be the fault of the writers failing to take into account character development in prior films.

This film suffers from the same "You irk the shit out of me" terrible, terrible writing of DC animated films as of late. Entertaining garbage, but garbage nonetheless.

Thankfully, Constantine has a way of making things interesting in spite of his writers.

On the film:

  • [up] Yeah the whole We ARE Struggling Together is becoming a tiresome trope in these movies. The only DC movies of recent years to not have that is Justice League Gods and Monsters, Batman Return of the Caped Crusaders and (to an extent) Justice League Throne of Atlantis. Not really a surprise that those two movies are my favorite.
  • Another nitpick is the use of dubstep to score the soundtrack. Seriously, this isn't Battle Tendency where said dubstep was actually fitting in epitomizing the completely alien nature of the Piller Men. This is a horror story where the fabric of reality is at stake.
  • Other than that I do enjoy the tone and cast of characters as I always love horror themed comic book characters.
  • I also like how a lot of the villains in the movie are from the classic Justice League comics like The Demon Three, Felix Faust and Doctor Destiny. Faust especially stole the show the moment he appears on screen.
  • Speaking of Doctor Destiny, it's kind of weird that he went from a scientist with the abilities to bring anything he dreams to reality to a sorcerer who can warp reality. But it is cool that he is voiced by Alfred Molina.

Overall it's a pretty good film. I think the R rating is unnecessary as I found nothing graphic or obscene about it.

Doctor Destiny's MO didn't even involve dreams originally. But at least in his case they reinvented him before DC went all reboot crazy. I guess we can thank his being a sorcerer now on his Sandman appearances. But at least it makes more sense.

[up][up] Yeah, he was originally just this brilliant inventor who can create technology that does incredible feat like getting rid of gravity. It's his second appearance where his theme relates to dreams and it sort of just sticks with him.

Yeah. I did.

I agree that Faust stole the show. He was both the nerdiest sounding version, and the most assholish version of Faust (that line he said to Zatanna was gold) ever.

Yeah. Some were understandably annoyed at how Batman was included in the group, but for the first time, I really got a feel for his normal man status.

He almost seemed more out of place with the magic dudes than he did with the League, and his bemused reaction to some of the odder shit going on (with nothing more then an annoyed Hmmm) tended to crack me up.

You could tell he was thinking Ok, I've fought an alien invasion, and an invasion by fricking Atlantis, and this has some how managed to be weirder. How is that possible?
