A Game of Gods Season 3: Terminus

Go To

There is a legend spoken across a myriad of worlds, a tale of a tower between worlds. Called the Tower of War by some, the Devouring Tower by others and the Tower of Gods by most. The story goes that at a time of great conflict and crisis, a great Tower appeared. A construct of jet black metal, it stretched into the skies to a height where none could see the top. And at the base of the Tower, a black and gold gate unlocked.

Here, the stories diverge. Some tell of a band of heroes emerging, bringing an end to dictators and those who would let conflict rage. Others tell of demons and evil beings spilling out from the Tower and covering the world in an eternal darkness. And others say that those who dared to enter never returned.

But all tales agree on one point. After a period, sometimes days, sometimes years, the Tower vanished, leaving behind a world forever marked by its arrival and legends in its wake. And the fate of those whom the Tower had swallowed was left in the hands of the Gods.

Greetings traveller, and welcome to the Tower. You have been chosen to climb its steps of black stone and seek the top where the Ruler awaits. Me? I am but a blind locksmith, forever cursed to lead those who would climb the Tower and explain how to proceed. At the top of this Tower awaits your reward should you succeed. Riches beyond your imagination, knowledge that surpasses that of the greatest thinkers, weapons that would pluck the sun out of the sky and treasures of technology that would make anyone a king of their world. And, should you wish to, a way home, just how you left.

Oh, do I sense hostility? Rebellion? Righteous anger, directed towards the Ruler for taking you from your home? Oh yes, you would not be the first. Certainly, the one responsible for your being here also awaits at the top. Would you like to strike them down? Take revenge for your treatment? Or take on the mantle of Ruler of the Tower yourself?

Yes, yes! For such is the nature of the Tower! At the top, your heart’s greatest desires! But to win, you must play the games that the gods dictate!

Ah, now you are listening? You wish to know how to play? Very well. You will climb the Tower one floor at a time. Each floor have the stairs to the next floor, locked. But each floor also has a black and gold gate that leads to a different world, locations unimaginable or locales familiar. From that world, a world embroiled in chaos and strife, you must locate the key that will grant you passage to the next floor. Will it be the crown of a king? The last coin of a beggar? The song of an animal? I will be able to tell you what it is, but you must find it by yourselves. And then you return here, and you can progress to the next floor.

A simple idea, but a difficult task. Travel the myriad of worlds that this Tower connects to, recover the keys and climb! Ascend towards the heavens, towards the reward that awaits above!

Climb!

Rules

First of all, please respect the forum rules and the RP subsection rules.

One character per player, please. We’d also like to keep powerlevels at a reasonable standard, but anything can be nerfed. Even if you think your character is too powerful, send them our way and we’ll discuss it. Rule of thumb, though: if your character can cause or fix natural disasters single-handedly in a short length of time, expect some nerfs.

Please keep to general R Ping etiquette. No ghosting (simply ignoring any attacks sent your character’s way); no autohitting (whether your character’s attack lands is up to the other player, not you); no taking control of other people’s characters, etc. Of course, these being etiquette and not laws, you can make breaches if they’re discussed with the other player beforehand.

The only real rule is that GM rulings are final, and must be obeyed, though if you have objections these rulings can be politely discussed. The GMs for Season 3 are Meanken, Makaioh and Lemurian.

@wikkit: I did give it due consideration, but it would be broken in the context of the metaplot, sorry. Which was why I wanted to make sure I was understanding you correctly.

@Intra-Versal: What makes Lucchini special is that with her Striker Unit she is functionally identical to a fighter aircraft. Her max flight speed and in-flight agility is thus leaps beyond what any of the other fliers are capable of. And if we actually nerfed her stats until she had the same flight attributes as the others, it would end up being a far cry from the original intention. The Striker Unit is simply designed for a scale of battle and type of enemy that is very different from the scale intended for Terminus, and ends up being overpowered in most cases (and useless in more than a few, such as indoor combat). Your proposed changes are not enough to remedy this, I'm afraid.

Also, more as an aside, how do you propose that she will be transporting the Striker Units when she is not flying?

@Lemurian: Ah, yes, I can see why Lucchini could be pretty damn broken in some scenarios, and prettty useless in others (though my headcanon of Reimu's combat abilities outside the games themselves are the MMD videos, like the one with her vs Utsuho. So forgive me for thinking she might be able to stand up to a WWII fighter plane or two). And I originally conceived that she might carry them between combat encounters (or ride upon one of the more heavy-duty Climbers), but in retrospect it sounds pretty ridiculous. I guess I'll save Lucchini's character sheet for another RP then.

Still, I would like to ask for more details on what exactly is the "scale intended for Terminus" other than "a reasonable standard" (because "reasonable" varies by scale). Judging from your criticism (and reading earlier AGOG R Ps), I assume that your focus is more on personal engagements against infantry (and by that I mean squishy, mostly uniform masses of mooks with a few stronger-than-average leaders mixed in) and/or strong individual "bosses", with little focus on fighting and defending against armoured vehicles/giant mounts, air/spacecraft/flying mounts, artillery/bombardment fire (magical or conventional) from large distances, or their closest equivalents.

By that metric, I would assume that characters that could fill or counter any of the above non-infantry roles (e.g. giant mechs, bombardment-based characters in Lyrical Nanoha, dragon riders, Girls Und Panzer tank crews, Kantai Collection shipgirls) would be considered way too powerful, am I correct? Sorry if I'm overthinking this, but I'd like a clear metric on allowed characters so I won't keep sending characters only to be rejected.

I'm gonna be switching out Yu for another person since I've sorta lost interest in playing him. But my new pick will be... fun.

  • Name: Kurama / Shuichi Minamono
  • Age: 18 / 1000+ years old
  • Appearance: "Every rose has its thorns."
  • Universe: Yu Yu Hakusho
  • Personality: What others take to be an affable and soft-spoken young man is actually one of the most analytical, adaptive, and cunning demons alive. Having an extremely keen intellect and the ability to restrain his emotions to become cold and logical at the drop of a hat, Kurama is someone that will do things in a quick and efficient manner due to his hatred of sloppiness. He is a man that shows a much softer side to those who own his trust and treats his enemies with the most cruel coldness. Charismatic and loyal, this fox knows how to best apply his many talents so as to make life easier for him and his friends.
  • Backstory: One of Makai's more feared figures and an A-Ranked Demon, Yoko Kurama was a renowned master thief known as the "Legendary Bandit" who struck fear into the hearts of others for his abilities and even worse, his pragmatism. It was during one fateful treasure hunt that the youkai ran afoul of some particularly powerful Demon Hunters and was gravely wounded to the point where he had to shed his old body and transfer his soul into a developing human embryo to regenerate from such wounds. Now incarnated as a human teen living a semi-ordinary life that goes by the name of Shuichi Minamono, Kurama agonized over whether he should return to being a true demon or continue to live as a human in order to care for his family that he had grown accustomed to. Due to a variety of circumstances, the human-youkai is one of the Spirit World's Spirit Detectives and goes around every now and then to sweep up supernatural crimes in the community along with his pal Yusuke Urameshi.
  • Powers/Abilities/Equipment: Due to special circumstances, Kurama is classified as a "human with the powers of a youkai" and thus has access to youki, the spiritual energy that such demons are able to emit. Youki is used to do things such as being able to directly see/attack ghosts or strengthen the body for most- Kurama is no different since he can reinforce himself to be able to handle being smashed through thin walls or prevent ordinary blades wielded by a human with ordinary strength from digging too far into himself as well as leap up single story buildings in a single bound. It's also used to heighten one's senses and lets their body move and react faster than normal, though Kurama's notably more squishy than most due to his fusion, he mitigates this weakness by using his high intelligence to work out patterns to create plans for counterattacking near instantly as well as having several martial arts based off of Chinese wushu to supplement overall efficiency.
  • His special characteristic that he uses youki for though is the control of plants, whether they be from the Living World or the Demonic World. Notably, he's able to tamper around with their genetics and cause them to grow extremely fast or reinforce their characteristics such as making weeds sturdy or poisonous plants even more lethal than they should be. He's known to carry around thousands of seeds on himself at all times so as to be never unarmed in any situation . When Kurama is in a particularly sticky situation, he can temporarily switch forms into his natural kitsune body, growing noticeably taller and sporting fox ears and tails colored silver as opposed to his trademark red. In this form, all his abilities gain a qualitative leap upwards at the expense of human empathy fading greatly and cruelness skyrocketing, highlighting the more brutal nature of a demon. His specific techniques/Demon World Plants are as follows:
    • Rose Thorn Whip Blade: Manipulating rose seeds with his youki in order to turn into a literal thorny whip. It can deliver excruciating damage and slice through wood and softer stones with ease. His bread and butter and thus the skill you'll see the boy use the most. Kurama's erratic and quick motions intensifies the danger of this special weapon as well, being able to deliver both crushing and slashing damage at once, either as long string of combo strikes or using it to entangle then constrict targets to death. The more youki put in, the more powerful the whip becomes. Other functions can be performed as variant techniques such as hardening the whip together so that it forms a sort of drill lance/sword for closer ranged combats, throwing sharp rose darts around, or utilizing the hardened and sharpened petals as a barrier of flying razors to play keep away.
    • Death Inviting Grass: Special Demon World plant seeds that are implanted in deep enough wounds of the opponent. Due to how much energy it takes out of Kurama and the scarcity of the seeds, he can't use it willy nilly and saves the seeds to use as a ticking time bomb against particularly hardy units that can take a lot of punishment externally. Upon contact with enough blood, the plant and injected youki blooms rapidly and attempts to spread its roots throughout the host like a particularly destructive parasite, digging into organs and draining blood like no tomorrow to bloom into flowers. Kurama only has three of these on hand so he's particularly stingy with them.
    • Devourer Demon Plant: A particularly fierce red root-based plant sporting teeth and acidic saliva that can melt flesh and bone easily. It is immobile once sprouted and has a range of around ten to fifteen feet, homing in on living creatures in the near vicinity that Kurama makes it aim towards.
    • Demon Realm Bow Grass: A plant indigenous to South America that evolved through youki, it seeks out thermal energies to wrap its strong tendrils around and then crush to death the target. Has an effective radius of twenty feet surrounding Kurama at the center and has to be summoned with a chant of "Agron Tentagram Bicheon Sabbat Adonai."
    • Blood Sucking Weed: These act as lesser versions of the Death Inviting Grass, being able to grow on the target's skin in a manner like leeches. As such it's much easier to get rid of the plant before it can achieve its full potential simply by ripping it off before the roots can burrow deep enough. Taking too long though can result in the victim dying from blood loss.
    • Lamp Weed: Non combative plants that perform the function of acting as a heatless lantern or a trail of glowing markers to show the way.
    • Tree of Depravity: A tree that feeds on the ensnared victim's life force while pumping them full of hallucinogens that show their greatest fears, growing more tendrils to restrain the victim the more they struggle. It's exceedingly rare and used by Kurama solely on already extremely damaged immortals or regenerators to keep them out of commission as a seal due to him only having three seeds. It's only effective when used on someone who's already damaged to the point of not being able to fight back in any way when the tree is planted.
    • Wood Spirit Demon Beheading Fist: A thorny vine like plant similar to the Rose Whip Blade, save that it's more compact and wrapped around the arm to form a Blade Below the Shoulder. Far more sturdier and sharper than the regular variant, being able to puncture through tank armor. Can only be used in the Yoko Kurama kitsune transformation.
    • Bamboo Forest: A technique where Kurama supercharges a bamboo spear with his youki before embedding it into the ground whereupon it'll grow and sprout extremely sharp bamboo pikes to impale the opponents. Effective radius of twenty feet and Kurama has to have a charging time of ten seconds before embedding it into the ground being able to grow anything.
    • Pseudo Creature: A plant parasite that can prolong someone's life by repairing people at the cellular level at the cost of also binding them with sturdy roots. It can be used to save someone dying from grievous injuries or to used to prolong a torture session. He has three such creatures and they die once Kurama takes them out of the host. Its power lags behind his other Demon Plants in that it can only forcibly restrain an ordinary human with no supernatural powers whatsoever.
    • Parrot Grass: Grass that looks like grass and can mimic the voices of anyone Kurama's personally heard before, usually used to trick enemy communications or bait people towards a trap.
    • Leaf Blade: A blade made from a sharp leaf, the degraded form of the Rose Whip Blade in that it's not nearly as sharp or flexible but has a very fast summoning time, being around the level of a regular human crafted iron long sword.
    • Floating Leaf: Grafts two wing like leaves on his back to use as a hang glider, hovering or for short flights. Maximum flight speed is slightly above how fast he can run.
    • Smoke Screen: Shoots out a dense smoke screen from his palm to obfuscate the enemy's vision. They are created from powder like mold.
    • Advanced Youki Manipulation: Only usable as Yoko Kurama, the fox spirit channels youki to prematurely trigger traps in an area, cause intimidation to mooks, and outright shoot large beams of energy from particularly vigorous plants with a lot of life.

  • Name: Dandy
  • Age: Seems late 20's or early 30's
  • Appearance: Link
  • Universe: Space Dandy
  • Personality: As one could probably guess from his appearance, Dandy is a brash and vulgar individual. His main goal in life is to earn money easily and spend all of his time at Boobies, which is basically Space Hooters. He is lazy and perfectly happy to look out for himself, abandoning his team mates to save his skin. He will always put up a face of the tough guy, and tries his best to look cool. He will lie and cheat if he thinks it will either get him what he wants or make him look better in front of others. He is an infamous flirt with curvy ladies and/or aliens. Underneath all of that, Dandy can sometimes seem like a stand up guy. He is good with children, and will show respect to those that earned it. If someone's situation is pitiful enough, Dandy can be moved to do something or to at least show kindness. He doesn't go around trying to find trouble, and honestly prefers to just go with the flow. He will just cause trouble if it find him first.
  • Backstory: Space Dandy is a dandy in space. He is a galaxy wide alien-hunter. On a journey of adventure to new worlds, he searches for unknown extraterrestrials. Dandy's early life is a general mystery, and not something he ever talks about. He became a rare alien hunter because he really doesn't have the qualifications for anything else. Some time in the past he had a fling with a 4th dimensional being named Catherine. Dandy is a man that, through very little effort of his own, seems to always end up in the center of things much bigger than himself.
  • Powers/Abilities/Equipment:
    • Ray Gun: As expected of any great space hero, Dandy comes with his own ray gun. About the size of your average hand gun, this little thing can blast a hole through steel and alien alike. It doesn't seem to need to be reloaded, though it does need to cool down or risk overheating. This weapon would be threatening if Dandy wasn't an absolutely terrible shot.
    • Skilled Pugilist: While bad in a fire-fight, Dandy can hold his own when it comes to good old fisticuffs. He has no training or style that he uses, but his ability to improvise in a fight serves him well in the hunt for rare aliens. He is also pretty good at being able to pick up unusual objects lying around and using them to fend off attackers.
    • Skilled Pilot: When behind the controls of either his spaceship, the Aloha Oe, or his truck sized mecha, the Hawaii Yankee, Dandy's lack of skill in gunning seems to vanish. When piloting, he becomes a great shot and an amazing, in unusual, pilot. In mechs he can defeat creatures many times larger than his machine, and in spaceships he can compete with the greatest racers in the galaxy.
    • Pro Surfer: Dandy does not collect surfboards just to show off. The man has excellent talent on a board. He has been able to surf on the debris of a currently exploding planet and on the waves of the River of Time. Nothing has been able to knock him off his board once he gets on.
    • Spacial Understanding: Dandy is one of the only characters in his universe to figure out the secret behind warp technology and how it affects parallel universes. He has no education to speak of, he jst figured this out on his own. It could be the result of his special relationship within his home universe...
  • Why have they been picked to climb the Tower?: Constantly in crazy situations already, Dandy's motto of going with the flow will allow him to acclimate to the monumental task ahead of the group easily.

I want to get back into the swing of things in Terminus, but I'll be switching from Kat, because I want to start new and she might be featured in a future AGOG challenge in the future. I don't know if duo characters are allowed but if they are, out with Kat and in with....

  • Name: Birdy Cephon Altera/Tsutomu Senkawa
  • Age: Unknown (Birdy)/17 (Tsutomu)
  • Appearance: 2 characters in One!
  • Universe: Birdy the Mighty
  • Personality: Tsutomu is the calm one that would rather talk things through in a situation, and rather not fight. Birdy is the one that does what it takes to bring criminals to justice and possesses a very short temper. Sharing the same body together, they often clash on the best course of action, but otherwise their relationship between each other is amicable and they work off each other well.
  • Backstory: Birdy Cephon Altera is a Space Cop that found her way on Earth following the trail of alien criminals working undercover as a model named Shion Arita. Tsutomu is simply an ordinary teenage boy living in Tokyo. They met each other when she was hot on the criminal Geega's tail, but just as she was about to finish the job, Tsutomu was caught in the crossfire and "killed" by Birdy. As a last ditch effort to save the boy, Birdy fused her body with Tsutomu's dying body, meaning that both her and Tsutomu must share the same body and consciousness together. Although the two fought with each other in the beginning, in time they work together to try and complete Birdy's original mission.
  • Powers:
    • Body Switching: Because they share the same body, Birdy and Tsutomu can switch between each other's bodies at will. Tsutomu switches to Birdy during combat, and when Birdy is healing up from attacks, or cannot be able to help out with a situation herself, she switches over to Tsutomu. They communicate with each other through telepathy, and they can telepathically influence what the other does physically (i.e. Birdy can have Tsutomu throw punches or jump high if she wanted to and Tsutomu can hold Birdy back from letting out her full strength).
    • As a Ixioran Altian, Birdy is a super soldier, capable of running faster than cars, jumping very high and is a very powerful fighter, with her punches capable of creating structural damage. However, because she shares a body with Tsutomu, her power has diminished because he can hold her back telepathically and because she has to conserve her energy into keeping each other alive. She is capable of lifting trucks and can go as fast as 75mph uninterrupted.
  • Why have they been picked to climb the Tower? Birdy can be the muscle of the Climbers, while Tsutomu can think of the planning for the Climbers.

In a case like Birdy and Tsutomu's, a dual character is totes fine. smile But just a quick couple of questions about Birdy's max abilities. Does Tsutomu's presence at all times hold back Birdy's true strength, or can he potentially let her go at full power? And in either case, what will be the maximum limits of Birdy's strength and speed in Terminus?

[up] Yup, Tsutomu's presence will always limit Birdy's true strength, and her max abilities are nerfed as such. For instance, in Decode she was able to level buildings with her fighting, but here she isn't that strong. She'll still be able to run fast and jump high, but she can't be able to destroy buildings or beat enemies with ease because of Tsutomu.

All of her strengths and weaknesses carry over to Tsutomu if she is using his body.

Your works are one trope short.

#240: Dec 9th 2016 at 10:11:23 PM

What can I say. I miss the old days, so maybe I wanna try out my little fella here somewhere else and see how he works.

This was so spur-of-the-moment you guys have no idea, I may panic when I wake up in the morning and realize I did this [lol]

Name: Cole

Age: Difficult to really pin down. Seems to be approximately in his late teens Has existed as an independent being for only about three years

Appearance: [1]

Universe: Dragon Age: Asunder and Dragon Age: Inquisition

Personality: Cole is quiet and easy to miss, if not for his sometimes decidely odd behavior. However, he lives his life with a desire to help and ease the pain of anyone around him, thus being friendly and open to anyone he deems good, and distrustful and wary of those he deems bad...either way, however, he seeks to heal hurts. Since becoming more human, he has also begun to develop proper emotions and mortal needs, and thus can seem immature at times as he tries to grasp actually being alive. He also has a distinct lack of boundaries and is the last person you should expect to keep a secret.

Backstory: Cole first existed as Compassion, a spirit of the mystical Fade who embodied the emotion. However, a young mage named Cole, brought into the White Spire and accidentally starved to death by Templars, cried out and drew the attention of Compassion, who was unable to offer any help beyond holding the young man's hand as he died. Compassion was damaged by being unable to fulfill its purpose, and in desperation did all it could, taking on the form of Cole for itself. The new Cole, however, lost his memory of what he had been, and discovered himself unable to be remembered by all but a single mage, Rhys, who befriended the troubled young man hiding in the dungeons of the Spire.

Cole was known as the Ghost of the Spire, as he traveled it "mercy killing" young mages and apprentices that wished for death, as they could see and remember him. These actions accidentally helped set off a mage/Templar war, in which Cole, Rhys, and others were involved. After battling the Templars, a spell used against him revealed Cole was not a human mage, but some sort of demon or spirit, and he faded away, only surfacing long enough to murder the Templar who wished to destroy the mages.

Some time later, Cole came to the Inquisition, seeking his place in the world and offering his help. He was accepted, with some reservations, but ultimately proved to truly wish to atone for his past and to "help the helpless, heal the hurt" despite occasionally accidentally revealing hidden hurts of his comrades.

After a significant battle, Cole became afraid that as a spirit, he could be bound, or controlled, by bad people, and sought the help of his teammates to prevent it. Ultimately, he was guided into making a decision which brought the spirit further into being human, causing significant shifts in his abilities and way of viewing the world. Though needing some time to come to terms with the changes, Cole has proven still able to assist in further battles to help protect his world.

Powers/abilities/equipment:

  • Empathy/telepathy, with a limitation that what he detects must be "a hurt, or something that could heal the hurt." This can be surprisingly variable however, as he has shown in the past to be able to detect the pain of a person he has never met through shared pain with someone he has. However, since becoming more human, Cole sometimes struggles to be able to hear others over his own pains, and is still learning to deal with the new complexities of people he is now aware of.

  • Invisibility: Cole can render himself largely unseen to those around him, though his invisibility is not perfect and will drop immediately upon initiating interaction with another, or being attacked. He is only invisible and still perfectly traceable via scent, heat, or whatever other odd senses might be present.

  • These abilities help make Cole a deadly Assassin, wielding twin daggers to backstab opponents before fleeing into cover again. He has no formal training, claiming he "goes where the daggers need to go."

  • Cole has some ability with bows, but lacks the training to be an effective archer just yet.

  • Lockpicking: As a rogue, Cole has skill with opening most mechanical locks within a few seconds.

  • Mimicry: Cole can perform a reasonably correct facsimile of the voices of others - not enough to fool anyone close enough to the person, but enough to throw off those who are not intimately familiar with the person's manner of speaking.

  • Former power: An ability to force people to forget his existence or any interaction they had ever had with him, stating that "their minds make a shape that make sense." Lost this power upon becoming more human, but occasionally forgets and tries to make use of it.

  • Equipment consists of two double-bladed daggers worn in holsters on his back, and his beloved armored hat, odd though it seems.

Why was Cole chosen to climb the Tower: If he were asked, Cole's answer would simply be "To help people." Perhaps someone with truly unselfish motives might hold the key to achieving victory. Maybe his powers will be of assistance in helping others find the strength to keep moving, onwards and upwards. Or perhaps a person who is unique, in his world and most others, simply brings a perspective that would be lacking among many others.

I'm not sure yet if I want to have a second character, or if I'd rather just replace D.Va outright, but here we go:

Name: Lusamine
Age: Over 40 (let's say 42)
Appearance: If her hair looks ridiculous, you haven't looked at her shoes. Despite her age, she doesn't look a day over 21.
Universe: Pokémon Sun and Moon
Personality: Vainglorious to a fault and twice as manipulative. While she was once a kind and compassionate woman who genuinely cared for her children as well as all Pokémon, and truly believed in the cause of protecting nature by using science, she grew obsessed over time with researching Ultra Beasts to the point where it nearly consumed her. She also came to change her feelings of love and affection into a desire to own things that she found beautiful. By slowly repairing her relationship with her daughter she's been getting better, but its usually not immediately obvious. Somewhere deep inside she's still that same person who wants to "shower all Pokémon with love", and to most people that's how she seems because she wants to act that way, but she knows full well just how easy it is to fall.
Backstory:
  • At some point in the past, Lusamine created The Aether Foundation, an organization based in the Alola region whose goal is to cure hurt Pokémon, and was its president. Eventually, she created Aether Paradise, a privately owned artificial island that was built in the middle of the Alola region by the Aether Foundation. Publicly, the foundation used it as a sanctuary for Pokémon, however it had restricted research facilities dedicated to the more nefarious goals of researching Ultra Beasts, Ultra Space, and the links between worlds.

  • When her husband, Professor Mohn, vanished during an experiment, she grew completely obsessed with her research in an attempt to find him - only to discover that he had turned into some sort of island-dwelling Luddite who preferred to spend his days eating beans. Her research continued, though, driving her deeper into madness as she fell under the influence of one of the Ultra Beasts she had set out to research and escaped to their dimension. Eventually, though, her daughter and her 11-year-old friend managed to travel into Ultra Space and defeat her. She then moved to Kanto to recover with the help of Bill, a brilliant man who also had experience with people becoming horrific Pokémon-human hybrids.
Powers/Abilities/Equipment:
  • Lusamine herself is mostly just a normal human being. She has is incredibly brilliant, cunning, and gifted with incredibly great genes that cause her to perpetually look college-aged, and is quite fit and healthy, but otherwise nothing supernatural about her. Except maybe her fashion sense.
  • She has work experience with wildlife conservation, but more importantly, wormhole research and dimensional travel. She has roughly two decades of experience with the sciencey stuff, presumably starting with a university education of some sort before working on it for several years, and then making her sole focus for the last several years after her husband disappeared.
  • Pokémon Team: Instead of a traditional team of six Pokémon, Lusamine has a team of five Pokémon, plus an Ultra Beast. They are securely stored in "Pokéballs" of various colors on her belt, which are high-technology objects that can store Pokémon inside almost weightlessly and keeps them safely inside. The Pokéballs are about the size of a large marble, but can expand to be about the size of a baseball. Each one can open up to reveal the Pokémon who was stored inside. There is some cosmic force preventing her from having more than one Pokémon "active" (that is, fighting) at a time, with the exception of places like designated rest areas, tropical resorts, hospitals, and other places where they can roam free.
    • Clefable: A fairy-type Pokémon that is immune to dragon abilities, her main attack is Moonbeam, which shoots a fairy-elemental laser blast at something. She can use Cosmic Power to increase her physical and magical defenses, and Moonlight to restore her health, its effectiveness increasing with the intensity of the moon at night. Her Magic Guard ability only lets her be harmed by attacks, instead of weather/poison/curses/caltrops/having a plant monster place its seeds inside of you and using them to drain your life.
    • Milotic: A water-type Pokémon that gets around on land by floating. It knows Hydro Pump, a big powerful hose-like water attack; Flail, a relatively weak physical attack that becomes massively more powerful the more injured it is; Safeguard, which prevents it and its allies from being inflicted with certain status conditions for a short period of time (For RP purposes I'll define status condition as anything that inhibits someone, like poison or burns, but which isn't caused by a wound or injury, like a broken leg); and Recover, which lets it quickly rest to recover health. Its Marvel Scale ability causes its physical defense to increase largely when being inhibited by a harmful status effect (sleeping, poison, etc).
    • Mismagius: A Ghost Pokémon that is immune to "normal" or "fighting" attacks (that is, if someone attempts to charge at it, punch/kick/etc. without using something like an element, or steel/metal, or something like that) and hovers spookily over the ground. She knows Shadow Ball, which lets her shoot a ghost-element energy ball at something; Mystical Fire, which shoots a beam of magical fire at something; Power Gem, which conjures a rock into existence and throws it at something; and Pain Split, which lets her share her pain with a target, either damaging them and healing her if she is more injured than they are, or injuring herself and healing them if they are more injured than she is.
    • Bewear: A giant fluffy normal/fighting type Pokémon. She is so fluffy that she takes half the damage she normally would from attacks that make contact, but also makes her take twice as much damage from fire attacks. She knows Baby-Doll Eyes, an 'attack' that lets her rapidly make such a cute face that she channels magic can reduce the physical attack of a target; Hammer Arm, a giant punch that temporarily makes her slow down a bit after using it; Take Down, a reckless, full-body charge attack for slamming into the target that causes her to take roughly a quarter of the damage inflicted as recoil; and Pain Split, which is the same attack Mismagius knows.
    • Lilligant: A Grass-type Pokémon that is incapable of being confused (that is, dazed, like from a flashbang). She knows Leech Seed, an attack that plants seeds in a target that cause it to take a little bit of damage over time, and transfer half the damage as healing to whoever is fighting the target; Petal Dance, an attack that shoots razor-sharp petals at something but she focuses exclusively on it for a while unless she misses; Teeter Dance, a dance that can induce confusion on those who see it; and Stun Spore, which floats out a cloud of spores that can paralyze a target.
    • Nihilego: A weird floating Ultra Beast with Rock/Poison typing, unlike Lusamine's Pokémon it doesn't really do much on its own. Instead, if Lusamine puts it on her head like a hat, it "merges" with her as a host, and it becomes much larger and transforms into an eight-tentacled octopus monster with incredible strength and stamina. Lusamine's hair turns blackish-blue with gold highlights and she is protected in Nihilego's head chamber. Like this. And like this. Doing so exposes Lusamine's body to a lot of neurotoxins that build up over time, meaning that she can't sustain this form indefinitely, and she is weakened and needs healing afterwards before she can function normally. Because Lusamine survived her first fusion with Nihilego in Ultra Space and was treated by Bill, she can survive fusion again without having her mind get completely dominated by it, but anyone else who attempts to fuse with Nihilego will be killed, assuming it would even want to fuse with them in the first place.
Why have they been picked to climb the Tower?: Because they heard she likes mudkips.

@mrstack: Could you give an example of the limits of Birdy's strength and speed? Sorry to bother you about this, I just want to make sure we're thinking along the same lines. smile

@Cole: Hay Cole, long time no see. smile Your character's looking good, just a couple of things.

First of all, might I request that detecting a PC's "hurts and pains" beyond physical damage be dependant on a go-ahead from the player in question? I'm thinking if characters are suffering from deep-seated trauma or similar issues, the player might want to know before Cole starts to talk to them about it?

And second, I'm gonna have to request a hard time limit on his invisibility powers, sorry. Would you be alright with something along the lines of between 30 and 60 seconds at a time? And I'm guessing that attacking someone is counted as "interaction with another"?

@nman: I'm sorry, but because I'm avoiding Sun/Moon spoilers, Meanken will be handling reviewing your character.

So far as the invisibility, a time limit is an easy handwave that since this is Cole from the "more human" branch, it's not as easy for him to maintain that power as it used to be and he's still adjusting to the change, etc., so that's not an issue. And yes attacking does count, he comes out of the invisibility if he does anything at all that draws attention to himself...yelling, lunging, etc.

As far as the hurts and sensing, I suppose that works, though it isn't as though I'd just be making up things for the characters. Typically what I do is look at their background and see what they might know of or about already and just go with that. Like, say, D.Va, he might just ask her about the war she was involved in, or something of the sort, and not something made up like the time her puppy got kicked when she was 7.

It isn't a power he can actually turn off, he's constantly sensing what's going on around himself and not all that practiced yet at not blurting things out. It could be handwaved also that he's trying to make an effort to stop doing that, if necessary, but he's probably not gonna be 100% [lol]

As for Lusamine, upon extensive review, I see no glaring issues.

For elemental powers, the exact effects they have beyond "magic" (That is, stuff related to elemental weaknesses and how they convert in other settings and such) will be determined and changed dependng on the setting in question.

With that note, Lusamine is accepted.

Also, personal note, while I do not care for spoilers for this game, others here do, including your GM. I get as time passes this may be harder, but do try to minimize discussion/use of the spoilered items for the first while if at all possible.
