I'm sure you're all familiar with the old schoolyard rhyme based on the notorious accused killer Lizzie Borden:
And gave her mother forty whacks
And when she saw what she had done
She gave her father forty-one
Now, I'm aware that Ms. Borden was later proved innocent, but that's beside the point. It is my understanding that schoolyard rhymes such as this about notorious killers was actually a fairly common practice in those days (and people say youth these days are obsessed with violence), often mentioning the killer by name and unambiguously describing them committing the murders that they're famed for.
I've heard a few others before, but this one is the only one I could think of offhand, and I'm looking for some others. The trope page for Ironic Nursery Tune only turned up two others, about Bloody Mary (the queen, not the ghost) and Mary Ann Cotton, and my various attempts at web searches had few good results (mostly just general lists of songs about murder and articles about how some more traditional nursery rhymes have kind of morbid, but mostly non-murderous origins), so I'm wondering if youse guys could give me a hand. Anyone know any more such rhymes, or perhaps even a wobsite where I could find a list of them?
Probably gonna add them as examples to the Ironic Nursery Tune page when I find them, so that others don't have this problem, but that comes later.
