The seasons halfway over, and no thread for the best comedy of the season? This just won't do.

Talk about the zaniness of Mayoiga and the gloriousness of Lovepon here.

So in the latest episode we have Mitsumune's cliche backstory, most of the group making a reasonable decision, and Speedstar apparently teleporting to Mitsumune's position. I'm not certain whether that last one is evidence of the paranormal, an bit of intentional editing weirdness, or a bit of unintentional editing weirdness

And, yeah, Lovepon is great. Hilarious, best character design, and wants to kill Mitsumune

Lovepon's singlemindedness does make the show bearable at times. Execute? Execute!

I was on the fence about whether or not I found this show funny until the latest episode. But then we cut to a scene where we see a girl tied to a pole, a bonfire, and Lovepon's crazed chanting, to which the reaction was:

  • "Guys, I think we may be going a bit too far."
  • ""Oh, c'mon, go with the flow."

And then I completely lost it. Had to pause the video for a full minute to finish laughing.

Honestly, I was getting tired of Lovepon and her "Execute!"-crazy mind, but after her backstory, she's now somewhat tolerable.

So Mitsumune needed this tour, lest he was forced into becoming a permanent Replacement Goldfish.

I was fishy about him before, but now I'm convinced that Hayato's a prick.

Heh, Nanko's pretty cool. ...But I do wonder why she's on this tour. Guess her detective work wasn't very appreciated. I want to know what her darkness is...

Here I am thinking, Wow, they are literally going on a witch hunt.

Then:

I still can't tell if this show is a parody or not, which is kind of incredible. Leaning towards parody because these are the stupidest anime characters I've ever seen, and that's saying something. Yes, burn this person at the stake because you think she might be an evil ghost... there is no universe in which that makes sense!

I saw a theory somewhere that all the supernatural stuff is really drug-induced hallucinations. Would make sense since all these people are various flavors of insane, and only one has actually died so far (maybe). Smoke from burning the local wood? Everyone who was in that burning building got attacked by a personalized terror monster.

If Hayato had his way they would have shanked her at the stake. Granted, stabbed to death isn't much better than burned to death.

Has anyone seen the tenth episode? I can't find it within me to articulate the words to describe it but ever since I feel like I've been living in denial.

This show is amazing in the worst of ways and I love it.

Episode 10 was the most fantastically terrible thing. It's great that this show is still finding new ways to be bad

AOTY

I haven't had this much fun with trashy anime since Cross Ange.

This show is honestly brilliant.

Absolutely meta. So much self-awareness on the part of the creators. waii Dahara summed it up nicely: "Who even cares at this point?".

So we hit the anticlimax and the show is over. Episode was decent, though the first half was a bit too good

Overall the series was rather hit-or-miss, but averaged out to fairly enjoyable. And it's unlike anything else I've seen

As an aside, I think my favourite joke may be the way Lion kept getting set up as important and then never actually did anything

Well, that was certainly an epic anticlimax. "Okay, uh, story's over for the slightly more protagonisty characters, everyone else get back on the bus, except for several random people half of whom are fading from existence, y'know, whatever." I guess I should have seen that coming.

If nothing else, this show certainly defied description. Deliberately half-baked and overstuffed with mostly unnecessary characters, and I still don't know what it was trying to achieve or whether it achieved it. Quite the... experience, though.

[up] A collossal troll?

Not that I mind being trolled by it. it's as if the show set out the expectations we had of it becoming a train wreck by deliberately wrecking itself at every possible opportunity. In the end what we got was a horror survival show without horror or any deaths.

I think the director likes horror movies primarily for the unintentional humour and tried to make something he'd enjoy

A small notes.

  • I think of the 30 characters, minimum 10 were filler.
  • I disappointed the fact that Lovepon never killed anyone.

I'm not so confident this show was completely intentional and I love that.

Maybe it's not quite my AOTS but it sure is one of the shows I enjoyed the most this season. The ending was so anti-climatic yet so fitting.

Only thing I'm disappointed about is the lack of relevance for Maimai in general, and for the final episode, Yottsun.

The last episode is unsatisfying, I would have liked to see a "Where Are They Now?" Epilogue .

This show was actually deceptively good a making use of it's cast. I mean, yeah, half of them were just there to pick up spare lines of dialogue, but how many other 1 cour shows can you name that made good use of 15 characters?
