Basically, it sets up the new status quo, Sakura's in middle school, Syoaran was able to do the paperwork to come back to Japan and live there so they're ostensibly together and happy with everyone.

Sakura has a dream about holding up blank cards and some mysterious figure in a robe.

Is the new anime project an adaptation of the sequel? o.o

I knew Cardcaptors too; mainly I remember my friend having all the Clow cards. After that I bought boxsets of the subbed CCS anime and both movies before they got rereleased XD; Does anyone know if the various non-Nelvana dubs are on DVD?

The first movie was especially interesting because it had the Cardcaptors dub and the original subs, as well as a Japanese audio track. Nothing was cut OUT of the movie but the story was changed a lot, so you could turn on the dub and subtitles to watch/read two different movies XD The second movie had a more accurate dub but I don't know what company made it.

I didn't grow up with the Cardcaptors dub, since I don't live in the US. Don't really have much to say about it or any interest in watching it.

And funny enough, the manga that the avatar whermact originates from has a famous scene that was an influence on Clamps X/1999.

Just read the first chapter. So it starts at the point the original manga left off, with Sakura and Syaoran's reunion. It seems a pretty good start and I look forward to see what comes next. As long as CLAMP doesn't try to make things more complicated than they should like they did in Tsubasa, I think everything will be fine.

Necroing this thread because chapters 2 and 3 are out. Chapter 2 starts where chapter 1 ends where discover all of Sakura's cards are clear. Kero, Yue, and Syaoren have no clue what's going and Erol isn't answering Sakura's cell phone calls. Chapter ends with Sakura dreaming and getting a new key. Chapter 3 involves her capturing her first clear card on her way to school. It's "Gale". Sakura shows her new card to Syaoren and Tomeyo. When the two girls leave Syaoren get's a call from Erol and he says he knows what he must do.

By the way, do we need a new trope page for this series or do we just keep adding on the old one?

As it's a new/separate installment, I'd probably advocate creating a second page for it.

The animated version is scheduled for January... 2018. So we have to wait a whole year, but I guess that's what has to be done to keep from Overtaking the Manga!

I've been a fan of CCS for a while, and have been keeping up with the new manga since it began. It's cute, but right now it seems to lack a clear goal or direction like the other arcs. It being a monthly series does hurt the story flow a bit, but I still enjoy the characters and their interactions.

Anyways, the reason I'm reviving this thread is because an OAD, Sakura and the Two Teddy Bears has been announced to act as a Prologue for the Clear Card anime that comes out next year. It seems to be an adaptation of Volume 12 of the original Manga. I'm really excited to see Sakura animated again!

See, it's previews like that that get me upset because I'm probably going to want to take a look at the first anime, but I can't because if I'm not mistaken, the English version we got in the States (Cardcaptors) abridges certain aspects of the story and overall leaves much to be desired, which is a problem because I prefer dubs over subs.

In other words, that preview was so good, I'm seriously considering watching the first anime and as a dubs person, I'm wondering if I should suck it up and just watch it subbed or wait and see if someone nets the license to CCS (the first anime and the upcoming one) and redubs the original anime a la Viz Media and Sailor Moon.

I mean there is an uncut dub but you can only buy it online and it's extremely expensive since you can either buy 3 DVD sets separately at $40 a piece, buy the complete series on Blu-Ray as a set for $160 which is $40 more than it cost to by the 3 DV Ds indivudually, or $109 to buy the entire series on DVD as a bundle. Bare in mind, however, that this particular dub was done by Animax Asia....

Yes, I'm aware of that one dub as well as how it isn't highly regarded all things considered...

Whoever dubbed the second movie was pretty good. i think that was the Australian dub? You can get both movies pretty cheap. The first movie had the Nelvana dub, so it's kinda fun to watch the dub with subtitles and see where it doesn't match up at all.

I thought Funimation did the second movie. With Wendee Lee as Kero.

Anyway, the Nelvana dub is really nowhere near as bad as the internet likes to say it is.

EDIT: Although I readily confess that this opinion may be entirely based on a near-unbreakable Nostalgia Filter due to having watched it as a kid when it aired.

Forgive me, but I recall reading it was Bang Zoom! Entertainment who dubbed the second movie, with Kari Wahlgren as Sakura.

So the inclusion of Wendee Lee doesn't come as that much of a surprise.

At the risk of being burned for heresy, the Cardcaptors dub is not the horrific abomination unto nature that it's commonly claimed to be. The dub itself is competently acted, and most of the same content is there, just presented in a different order.

tldr, the original has Sakura running around collecting cards on her own for a while before The Rival shows up, while Cardcaptors has his introduction as the first episode in order to make the show more appealing to boys as well as girls. This ironically has the effect of making Sakura seem way better at capturing cards than Li, because she frequently senses, hunts down, and captures a card without Li seeming to even be aware of its presence (ie, for episodes that happened before his introduction in the original cut). The only way that this really screws up the story is that it means you don't get the origin story of the Clow Cards and how Sakura become involved with them (ie, the first episode of the original cut) until a ways into the Cardcaptors recut, which is more than a little awkward.

Most of the other stuff that got cut from the Cardcaptors dub is general CLAMP creepiness that I honestly like the series better without. Like the subplot about one of Sakura's classmates who has a crush on their teacher — and the teacher reciprocates. Or the yuribait lesbian undertones of Sakura being attracted to another teacher (it turns out that said teacher has magic power herself, and the "attraction" was Sakura sensing that unconsciously). The only real loss there is the fact that Sakura's older brother and his best friend are also Yaoi Guys, which gets scrubbed from Cardcaptors but was actually a pretty important plot point.

Anyway, overall I'd say it's worth watching Cardcaptors if you like dubs, but if you want the real "original experience" then you're better off watching it subbed. For the purposes of understanding the sequel, either will do fine as long as you know the important bits that Cardcaptors changed (...which I just told you, so you should be good there).

The teacher reciprocating was cut out in the transition from manga to anime, not by the dub. Also, you don't think Tomoyo's feelings for Sakura were a loss? Or, you know, "Li"'s love confession? Or all of the other romance content that you didn't mention?

It's been years since I've actually watched either cut, and I was giving a tldr version with a focus on how it applied to the sequel, not trying to give a specific run down of every change that was made.

Well, when you said at the end of the that you had told them all the important changes I thought you were implying that you had given them an exhaustive list, and just wanted to point out that you definitely missed a bunch. Tomoyo's feelings and the Sakura/Syaoran romance are absolutely important for the sequel imo.

The teacher-student thing was in the anime but was changed in the dub. Instead of the girl caring about her teacher she feared him.

It wasn't in the anime the same way it was in the manga. In the manga the girl has a crush on her teacher, and he returns it in a creepy Jail Bait Wait kind of way. When the anime was made in Japan, they toned it down an unrequited Precocious Crush on her part, while he shows no feelings towards her beyond that of a caring teacher. The dub then removed even that, along with almost every other hint of romantic feelings from anybody.
