The literature section would include light novels.

I don't know if anyone's started a thread about one, though.

Generally most LN stuff goes here because it's all basically the same, LN, Manga and Anime.

There is very little difference between them and we do not need separate threads on say SAO's LN, Manga and Anime when they are all basically the same with very minor differences.

[up]Well, sure, but what about stuff that doesn't get adaptations?

Theoretically it would go into Literature, but putting it here would probably be more productive, given the fan overlap

[up][up]That tends to get No Export for You, and thus isn't very well known to TV Tropes' Western audiences.

There are very few L Ns that don't get at least a manga adaptation, anyway.

I don't think that's actually true? My understanding is that there's a fairly large number of LNs out there, but the west only really hears about the fairly narrow group that get pushed. And the LN fandom that's formed are the sort of people like those ones, so they're also the ones that get translated

Put em here anyway?

Eh, fair enough. There really is way too much overlap between the audiences anyway.

Yeah it's not as if there's a huge contingent of light novel fans who aren't into other Japanese nerd stuff.

Well, then, what about WN? I know that most of them are... not really good, but sometimes, there are some gems that finally can get through and shines, so to speak.

Web Novel. Think light novels without illustrations or editors. The better ones get adapted into manga or light novels later, after significant revision (i.e. The Rising Of The Shield Hero).

Web novels aren't unique to Japan.

Coincidentally, I found an article about this which talks about the close connection between manga/anime and light novels, stating that:

if you peek into the manga section of your local bookstore, you might find a “light novel,” which, according to Leyla Aker, v-p publishing at Viz Media, “possesses elements of YA and genre fiction, combined with the uniquely Japanese element of the manga/anime connection.”

Worth a read if you're interested in the topic.
