A hip flask, maybe?
A perfume bottle? That'd be for an elegant genie, I suppose...
Rejoice!Classically, a lot turned up in rings.
Instead of the stereotypical ancient oil lamp, how about an old-fashioned cigarette lighter, like a Zippo or a Ronson? (It could be an antique, made by some obscure company brand that nobody's ever heard of, like "Eldritch.")

This Space Intentionally Left Blank.Or "Shaeila", which is the Arabic word for "torch" (the fiery kind).
Pocketwatch.
Since your character's a student, how about a class ring? They're usually big enough to have some room inside for the genie.
Charm bracelet.
How about an iPhone? For the hip, modern genie!
please call me "XionKuriyama" or some variation, thanks! | What is the good deed that you can do right now?Fountain pens perhaps? If the Genie can live in any sort of interior space regardless of size there are quite a few options open.
Who watches the watchmen?Wristwatch.
A Klein Bottle
*puerille giggle*
I don't get it
(scratch that, misundestood you)

Rejoice!A USB drive. There already bigger on the inside then on the out.
Profile image made by BulhakovPerhaps a picture? Or a book?
The genie could have a habit of making a home inside pictures. In the case of the student, it could be a picture of a house they keep in a locket or in their wallet or something.
Or, maybe the student is an artist or enjoys taking photographs and carries either a camera (a regular film camera, digital camera, or a smart phone) or a sketchbook.
The genie in question selects the object as their home, but can often be seen moving from picture to picture and interacting with the frozen image like their own home. If the student wants to talk with them, they may find themselves having to search through all their pictures to find the genie relaxing in one of the scenes.
For bonus points, the ability for the sketchbook or camera to capture images somehow ties in with the genie's preferred method of granting wishes. If the student wants to wish for something (like a sports car, a house, or to have someone cured of their illness) then the genie is much more likely to grant their wish properly after it has been properly sketched out (or photographed). After all, it's easier to grant a wish when the one asking is willing to help out and contribute to the implementation.
Or.. they could make a home in a pen or a pencil. The act of the genie living there grants some supernatural bonus to the writing implement. Perhaps, anything written down by the genie's pen is likely to become real (if only because the genie can always sense what is being written and can, on a lark, decide to grant that 'wish') or the writer finds it easy to write best-selling novels, always get the right answers on a test or homework assignment, or the words can move around on their own or be verbally commanded to auto-correct or turn into 'proper' drawings.
Maybe have a whole keg full of genies
@dragonkingofthestars@ And they exist in 4-dimensional space

If it ain't broke, fix it 'til it isGenies improving object reminds me of Magi: Labyrinth of Magic. Genies there using metal object as container, and basically act as Guardian Angel of their owner.

A snow globe?
A key for a car that no longer exists.
Is that a key belonging to a non-existent car, or a non-existent key belonging to a car?
If it ain't broke, fix it 'til it isI'm pretty sure they mean that the car no longer exists. So pressing the button on the key-fob summons the genie instead of unlocking the (non-existent) car.
While you could easily carry a key around in your pocket, doing the same with a car would be a tad more difficult. Try it, and let me know how you make out...

I am writing the scenario of a series whose plot is the life of a student of our time who befriends a genie. As this latter is a Genie in a Bottle, I was looking for an object where this genie could live. It could be anything that can be put in a pocket but an oil lamp or a jar. Do you have any suggestions?
