Clock is set.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanAlright, since we're clocked and the thread consensus seemed to agree we need a crowner for merging, I made a single prop crowner here. Sending to have it hooked.
Hooked; will remove clock.
she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportBump for votes.
Speaking words of fandom: let it squee, let it squee.Seems like all the voters are on board with the merge
Indeed. Merge Hidden Heart of Gold with Jerkass Façade.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanWhich name will the outcome have?
Jerkass Façade is the more clear one, so I say that.
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with? No, Hidden Heart of Gold guys are actually jerks, so Jerkass Façade wouldn't fit them.
What they both have are hidden hearts of gold, so the former should be the title.
We don't need justice when we can forgive. We don't need tolerance when we can love.I disagree. The description on both pages emphasise the Jerkass aspect pf the trope, first and foremost, so that should be used as the main name. There's about twice as many wicks for Jerkass Façade than there is for Hidden Heart of Gold, and it has almost double the inbounds
"Facade" would be a wrong word to describe Hidden Heart of Gold, though. In that trope, they aren't putting a facade, they're actually jerks. With hearts of gold that they try to hide (unlike Jerk with a Heart of Gold).
We don't need justice when we can forgive. We don't need tolerance when we can love.Yes:
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold: A person who is genuinely a jerk but who has known redeemable qualities as well.
- Jerkass Façade: A person who is pretending to be a jerk for some reason to hide their redeemable qualities.
- Hidden Heart of Gold: A person who is genuinely a jerk but who is hiding their redeemable qualities.
The problem with Jerkass Façade and Hidden Heart of Gold is the fans often can't tell whether or not the jerkassery is fake or genuine, but knowing the character is hiding a redeemable quality is much easier to find out. Combining the two tropes removes the fans' need to know whether the jerkassery is fake or genuine to focus on the use of jerkassery to hide a better nature.
The name Jerkass Façade describes the opposite of this and excludes genuine jerks by default.

If my post doesn't mention a giant flying sperm whale with oversized teeth and lionfish fins for flippers, it just isn't worth reading.Unstarred and swapped crowners.
she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportI feel like Hidden Heart of Gold could be too easily confused with Jerk with a Heart of Gold. While all of these names sound pretty similar, I think Jerkass Façade is more distinct. That said, makes a good point.

Jerkass Façade is at 5:1, more votes are required.
Link to TRS threads in project mode here.Seriously guys, there's nothing "facade" about Hidden Heart of Gold, so don't take Jerkass Façade as the new name. Please.
We don't need justice when we can forgive. We don't need tolerance when we can love. Why do you say that there's no "facade" in Hidden Heart of Gold?
One perfectly good definition of "facade" is "a false front". The Jerkass is a false front. The Jerkass is a facade.
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.It might not be a facade though, they might be entirely a Jerk outside of an occasional moment of throwing the dog a bone.
That's exactly what I meant
We don't need justice when we can forgive. We don't need tolerance when we can love. That sounds too similar with Jerk with a Heart of Gold, methinks.
According to the current status of the crowner, we cannot agree on which trope should merge into the other. Any other ideas, or are we calling in favor of no action?
she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportWell, I just flipped my vote after going back over the last page or two and doing some reconsidering, if that helps any.
Crown Description:
Vote up for yes, down for no.
we gotta make 2 crowners then, one for each above.
