Also the stuff where Zutara fans would write Mai as an abusive Yandere monster and kill her off brutally, or argue that fans of Kataang are pedophiles because he's biologically 12, or because he's short and bald, or hastily shipping him off with Toph who barely interacts with him so they could make Zutara happen.

I was a Zuko/Katarra shipper. Not because I thought they were a perfect couple, but because the Avatar crew kept dropping hints they would end up together. Stuff like Zuko claiming, "she's not my girlfriend!" Now how many times has that line been said when there wasn't a romantic pairing between the two characters? I mean, they clearly weren''t a couple at the time, but it felt like it was going to be one of those hilarious in hindsight moments. There was the fight between the two of them at the end of season one, then the heart to heart at the end of season two. They aren't love scenes, but they made it clear that the Zuko/Katara relationship was important. At the end of the series, during the final battle, Katara wasn't at Aang's side, she was with Zuko It wasn't because she loved him, but she did fight by his side in the final moments of the series. So I'm sure there are a lot of Zuko/Katara shippers who picked up on all this foreshadowing as well as this other stuff and thought the crew was going to make them a couple.

I do agree on the part that Keith is not really interesting, I mean we are only on 11 episodes of more than 80 probably but as of now I really dont see much of the appeal besides the appearance and his lack of awareness. Him and Lance are the less developed characters as of now.

As a Latinx I do have my issues with Dirty Laundry especially with chapter 9 and I agree before I even got to the latest chapter I wasn't really interested or amazed by it, I just followed because its the most popular voltron fic on AO 3. The author apologized for it and that's okay but honestly I dont get the hype plus the damage is already done since a lot of the klance fandom are just memes with random spanish words and shakira.

It's just really tiring when you got headcanons with poc only to flesh these characters with racial tropes and stereotypes. The fandom is still a baby, I dont want it to be nightmare already, especially since we havent watched the entire series yet.

I think I had a small discussion here about the lack of focus and development Keith has gotten so far. I just don't get the love when we barely even know what he's like.

Lelouch from Code Geass? Never watched it, only ever seen the abridged version.

Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?

What's wrong with Lelouch? He was a bastard at times but fun to watch.

[up] I'm just saying if people think Keith's a jerk now...

Or maybe his jerkiness comes around and everyone finds him entertaining.

Jerkishness being part of Keith's character would mean he's something rather than nothing.

Eh, I don't think Keith was a jerk. He may have had his moments, but so did every character. In fact he seemed like a pretty cool, nice guy most of the time. If anyone could be considered a jerk it would probably be Lance, who despite being a good guy himself had most of the jerk moments of them all.

Yeesh.

If this keeps up, by the time Keith does get a personality, people will be so dead set on ripping on him for not having a personality that they'll ignore anything that goes against that portrayal so they can keep ripping on him.

[up][up]I don't think people here are really ripping on Keith though.

Not a big fan of Keith but even he starts to finally get some development in the last three episodes and his impulsiveness is a lot less of an Informed Attribute. In general I agree with Pannic, it really does feel like those last three are a Growing the Beard moment for this show as a whole and I hope it sticks throughout Season 2, since I heard that they're already finished with those eps and Netflix is just holding onto them for now.

[down]Yeah I don't think the people worried Keith is going to turn into a second Asami need to fret. They've been building him up too much behind the scenes for him to turn out that way. The real danger is whether the traits they give him will make him more likeable and The Woobie or whether it'll be lots of Wangst and he'll end up becoming a Replacement Scrappy for Shiro.

I like all the main characters, so far at least. (Villains are kinda dull.) Interviews with the creators have indicated that they have stuff in the works that hasn't aired yet (backstory for Allura and Coran, character development for Keith and Lance), so I'm not too worried about those aspects.

I don't really mind Keith's portrayal so far, though it is a little odd how he gets a lot of the cool action scenes but not much focus as an individual. Though, the lack of personal focus might be intentional, given the little hints that there's something weird going on with him. That, and I'm guessing Season 2 (or Season 1B, if you see it that way) will probably deal with him more directly due to his behaviour in the finale.

[up] yeah theres still a lot to go through with this series and we gonna get more of Keith, something is def going on with him, he seems very impulsive, especially when he was fighting with Zarkon.

I dont think people are trying to hate on him, is more of pointing out that he obviously gets more attention than characters who had more of a storyline this season. I dont mind as long as his character is interesting.

Also, on the list of things wrong with Keith, it was giving him a sword. In a G-Rated action cartoon, that pretty much guarantees that he's useless against anything but Galra drones.

Guns can be used at long range to miss, or to attack inanimate objects (rocks to trigger a landslide, shoot at explosives to trigger them, things like that) with more ease than a sword.

And swords can be just as used to deal with things. There is nothing at issue with it.

[up][up][up] Fancy-shmancy sci-fi zap guns can frequently have a "stun" setting. I'm not against the sword, though. Using it in non-lethal capacity just takes some imagination.

Again, I think a lot of peoples character issues are the fault of Netflix, for breaking a single season at the mid-point instead of releasing it as a whole. The creators made it as a single season, with the story and character beats playing out with that in mind. Breaking it in half disrupts the pacing.

[up] Sorry, I wasn't being clear. I don't say that they are, just that that's frequently the way guns are utilized on cartoons where nobody gets killed.
