The Subway of Nos Lycarin

The boy and the woman were sitting idly on a pair of seats near the door of the subway car. It was pretty quiet for the most part, the car nearly empty the feline snuggled on the boys lap. None of them were complaining, it was nice to just take a second to...

-Thud-

The boy jumps in his seat at the sudden noise, even if it was quite soft. The feline falling off his lap and onto the floor though catching itself upright in reaction to the boys sudden nervousness. The woman just looked up at the ceiling inquisitively.

"Sis, did you hear that?" The boy questioned nervously looking at the woman besides him who just nods. With a both protective and curious mindset, she shifts in her seat to turn and look up and out of the subway cars window. She was attempting to work out who or what just made that noise.

"Uh... just get some painkillers. Not much anyone can do but wait for my body to repair itself... That damn taser fried the seperation mechanics of my armor, so it's fused to my body for now." Mitch grumbles and just rolls his eyes at Blake, though Rakiri’s presence helps him to stay calm. Meanwhile, Dominic works on Rakiri’s arm as well.

“He’s going into hypoglycemic shock. Peter, hang a unit of saline with glucose. Also, we need to stop the triad of death before it starts. Hang another unit of platelets and watch his pH levels.”

“Got it.” Peter says to Blake and Val, adding another dose of anesthetic and putting a bag of saline & platelets each next to the blood pack before returning to controlling Matthew’s blood flow.

“Hm… looks salvageable. A standard repair should do.” Val comments upon inspecting the hepatic artery, taking surgical tools and starting to work on it while he starts noticing the effects of Matthew’s gene mods. “This is… odd. Dominic, Mitch, tell me what you see.” He says out loud while transmitting his ‘scan’ of Matthew’s body to them.

“…That’s a lot of optimization. It does look familiar.” Dominic says, before having a realization. Rakiri might feel a sting as Dominic accidentally pulls one of the stitches too tight. “Too familiar. Along with the alien gene sequences…”

“Do you think he might be-“

“An Epimethean of sorts, yeah.” After Dominic says this, Matthew’s EKG starts beeping as he goes into ventricular fibrillation.

“Damnit! Peter, lift your hand for a moment.” Peter takes his hand off Matthew, and Val puts his on his chest, sending a precise shock into his heart to defibrillate it.

After about a second of flatlining, the monitor starts showing a normal heartbeat again. “Sinus rhythm, good. Let’s hope that doesn’t happen again.” He says, resuming the repair.

Bridge

Izzie receives the message and sends another reply. “That’s… interesting.” She says, switching ‘disturbing’ with ‘interesting’ at the last second. “You should be approaching Nos Lycarin soon. Local authorities will probably contact you when you approach orbit.”

As the walk, Amos doesn't hesitate to start munching on one of his burgers. "So, Russell...how is life at the orphanage? I admit while I was waiting, I looked up some information on it, but...I was curious what your thoughts were, seeing as you actually live there."

Med Bay

Tor steps into the Med Bay and...looks surprised at the surge of people already inside. "...I;m assuming all these injuries are related." he says before removing his labcoat and washing his hands before he scrubs up. Seeing the curtain pulled up, he heads inside. "Someone bring me up to speed, please."

Rakiri holds out his arm, elongating it via shapeshifting to grab a bottle of painkillers from the cabinet and hands them over to Mitch. "Ow! Damn it, pay attention to what you're doing..." Rakiri snaps, wincing in clear pain as the stitch is pulled hard. He glances over to Matt. "The hell is an Epimethean?"

The Subway of Nos Lycarin

The woman seemed frustrated, "I can't see anything." She calls down to the nervous boy who was sitting arms close to his chest a little scared.

"Then what now? Do we just leave.. what are you doing?" The boy asks the woman, clearly concerned as he sees the woman stand up on the seat. She quickly takes in a determined breath reaching up and knocking on the ceiling of the car. She was trying to determine if it was a creature, a piece of debris or what. Listening carefully for any more sounds.

The feline was laying flat to the ground like it was in the middle of stalking something. Maybe a little afraid itself, or maybe it was preparing to do something, it was always hard to tell.

Merrick shakes his head to Kyerine, smirking slightly, "I think you should think about putting it back. People don't always like it when you touch their things." he then shrugs and takes a seat. Mireille may notice that his skin is fairly hard to push through, and the 'blood' that is extracted is dark purple, almost black, and if analyzed it will prove to have high levels of natural antifreeze while his skin contains high levels of ice nucleation proteins. While wincing, he chuckles, "Yeah...we're a varied bunch. That's a very noble effort on your end, so good on you. If you don't mind me asking, what's your race?"

He nods to Torvahk in greeting and pulls out a map from his pocket, handing it over to him, "Heh, you're just a bit off course, friend."

Bridge

Tor tussles Nebris' hair as he waves to Tor, "Alright, hon. See you later"

Chris nods with Izzie, before sending a message to Greg, "What's going on down there, babe?"

Looking back at the external screen, he radios down to Nova and Zevai, "Yes, we have plenty of room and openings, come on aboard and we can get you in contact with the captain." he then lowers the hangar door.

Training Room

Lex watches as the group leaves toward the med bay, before looking back to Kijo, "I'd call it more lucky than funny... and lucky you had Tom, or else you'd have been pretty damn helpless. It's worrying how many people are coming after you now..."

"I think we all knew it would end up this way, don't kid yourself," Kijo says, his attention now on David as he speaks to Greg.

Before making his request, David attempts to bring the Captain up to speed on everything he knows, including the bar scene and the call in from G.R.A.H.A.M.

"I want to do this as peaceably as possible and it seems to me that you are my last option. Either allow me to take Tom back to Alexander and warrant for his capture will end and no one else should get hurt or go into a murderous rampage. If you won't let me do it myself, then I humbly request that the Troperia make for Alexander itself. PRISM isn't the only group my superiors will have called in, and "alive" only lasts as long as the higher ups are willing to let it last. Please." His tone is pleading here, and he thinks almost for a moment to prostrate himself and beg, but doesn't. Instead, he just keeps his gaze at the Captain as he scratches the back of his head.

"Urm I guess something just fell on the train." She informs the young boy of her opinion and climbs down. She did not have reason to question otherwise, its not like she was used to the sound of debris or people on-top of subway cars.

The boy sighs and nods. The boy was seemingly relieved by her answer, even if he wondered if she exactly knew what she was talking about. "Well we are almost at the next station right?" He questions to try and calm himself further.

"Yeah its just up ahead, then we can grab that pizza!" The woman responds in a overly excited tone. In a attempt to make the boy cheer up and more enthusiastic, even if the woman knew she would likely regret this later.

The feline was still uneasy, it was pacing back and forth anxiously. It wanted to get off of the subway train for some reason.

Torvahk gladly takes the map and studies it closely for a few moments. He discovered that while he was on the correct level, he was several rooms away from his destination. "Close I was..." He conceded humbly. Before he could continue examining the map however, he would be interrupted by a voice he heard not too long ago. "Much apologies, already said I have! Equal you are, what you want I do not know!" He said in response to Aicha with a sense of confusion and annoyance. He would have left, but the place was pretty crowded, and he had the feeling that Aicha would have just followed him around anyway.

Troperia - Medbay

Blake winces a little watching the scene but taking a deep breath to calm himself. His eyes still closed as he focus' his energy on reading Matthew's vital signs. "Y-yeah o-our genes were s-spliced f-from loads of a-alien species. T-though h-his d-dev-developed alot stronger than mine." he attempts to explain, before taking a drink of water.

"B-brain ac-activity low. E-external influence l-low... heart s-should r-remain s-stable. P-psionic activity low. P-potassium levels low, s-should give i-it a boost." Blake takes a deep breath as he is trying to focus.

"H-He'll n-need restraining a-after t-this a-and his powe-errs su-ppressed." He said bitterly but understanding the situation.

Blake pauses and breaks his focus looking at Toraq, his eyes changing from a bright crimson red to a faint pale red. "T-telepathic control, r-r-esulting in heavy c-combat. P-psionic o-over exertion on my b-brother. I-I g-got bit by a s-shark... D-don't ask. M-Mitch was tased." Blake stutters out, clearly exhausted still fighting his alcohol and bloodloss induced headache.

The Troperia - Biolab

Kyerine crossed his arm both hugging and bear, to protect it from being taken and to pout. "But why!?! Nobody is ever in there! It was all alone and I found it!" Kyerine tries to justify taking it, not seemingly feeling guilty at all.

Watching as the medical scene unfolds and wincing as the liquid is removed. "Why are you poking him!" Kyerine seemingly concerned however for Merrick.

Nos Lycarin - Enroute to the Starport

Russell wasn't eating yet, didn't have enough free hands to open his food while holding the cane. Responding to Amos with a bit of a shrug. "It's okay I guess. Don't really like the other kids. The steward is nice to me, as our my teachers most of the time. Never treat me the same as the over kids though." He gestures the hand holding the food back at the hoverboard on his bag.

Michael had started eating his as well. Listening but not directly involved with the conversation.

Nos Lycarin - Orbital Control

A message is sent out to the approaching vessel, the Godsgift.

"Attention approaching unidentified vessel. This is the Lyca Orbital Control, you are now entering Lyca controlled space. We welcome you to our system. Please identify your vessel before approach. Do not attempt to land or enter orbit without identification."

The voice was male but monotone, hard to identify racially due to the degree of practiced pronunciation. It was being broadcasted in multiple formats to match any kind of possible computer systems.

The subway train approaches the station and starts coming to a halt. The boy and woman getting up, the prior slinging the large bag back over his shoulder. "I'm thinking a spicy peperoni pizza!" The woman continues her enthusiastic comments to the boy about there upcoming lunch.

The boy immediately retorts back to her. "No fair! Why do you have to get your favourite again?!?" questioning her defiantly. A good way to get him encouraged was always through his stomach, and playing the older sibling card.

The woman was about to continue when the uncocking of the gun is heard. "Sin, what was that?" The boy asked as the feline jumped up into his arms.

The woman shakes her head at the boy. "It was probably just some switch on the track or something." The woman responded in a minor bit of denial of what she had heard. It couldn't have been a gun, or so she thought to herself at least.

The two of them walking off, the cat in the boys arms. The boy tries to look around and work out what he had just heard but not seeming to work it out. "I think we should get... Ahh!" The boy idly attempted to continue the conversation as the shot echoes loudly, ending his speech in a scared yell.

Without a moments hesitation the woman grabs onto the boys arm and begins running at the head of the crowd of people as fast as possible. "Simon we need to get out of here!" The man hadn't even fallen yet by this point. This was just the woman's mind racing to protect the boy with her.

The boy followed after but did turn his head back for just a brief moment to try and see the scene that just occurred. He witnessed the man collapsing to the ground, only making him run as fast as he could. He was no longer being dragged into the crowd but dragging the woman instead with his fear. The pair both just as afraid and in a equal state of panic to those who were screaming in the crowd around them in this busier subway.

[Godsgift, Approx. 9.2 Mm from Nos Lycarin and the Troperia]

"Sweet!"

Whistler looked up from the console. Sy was poking at the air, his eyes flitting across an invisible interface.

"What?" the pack prompted.

"I managed to pull up a direct interface with the Terminal. It must have been built by humans, or somebody using their tech. The operating system is similar to one used by descendants of the Qeng Ho."

"The what?"

"The Qeng Ho, a Slow Zone merchant culture. They—Huh. That's..." He trailed off, squinting at invisible screens.

"They what?" Whistler prompted again.

"Sorry, hold on. It just timed out on me. I should be able to—"

"The Terminal is go-go-go-go-gone," Godsgift announced cheerfully.

"...What?" Both of the crewmembers had spoken.

"Gone," the ship repeated unhelpfully.

"What happened? Was it destroyed?" Whistler wasn't sure this was even worth his attention.

Sy frowned at nothing, still watching his private readouts.

"Ship," the human said suddenly. "You recorded a visual of it?"

"I did. Shall I play it-it-it-it-it back? It's quite interesting."

"Yes."

The clear view out into space went dark, then returned. When it did, the Terminal was front and center. The arcing electricity, or whatever it was, was gone, the Terminal visible only by virtue of its self-illuminating floodlights.

For a few seconds, nothing happened. Then the Terminal was gone.

Whistler's Ed hiccuped. He felt dizzy.

"Computer," Sy said slowly, as if about to throw up, "Play that back, slower. Slow enough to see what actually happened."

"Playing video back at one-three-hun-un-un-un-undred-millionth speed," Godsgift said. The Terminal reappeared on the screen.

Then the stars visible through the center of the Terminal flickered, quivered, shimmered as if on the surface of a pond. There was a second of stillness, and the Terminal folded in on itself, and was gone.

Fi vomited. A cloud of nanomachines erupted from the floor nearby and enveloped the waste, dissolving it into inoffensive gases.

"One more time. Whistler, don't watch."

Whistler busied most of himselves at the console, but stubbornly kept his Ed facing the screen as the Terminal appeared a third time.

When it collapsed, the entire cabin seemed to sway sickeningly, but Whistler was beginning to understand that something impossible was happening on the screen. The Terminal hadn't collapsed, not really—something deep in Whistler's hindbrains screamed that he was mistaken, but he knew that the Terminal had simply moved, in a direction he somehow knew things should not be able to move. It was as if it had simply rotated out of existence, but somehow he knew that it could rotate back to any location in the universe.

"If I had to guess," Sy said carefully, "I'd say the Terminal is capable of moving in More than Three Dimensions. And I'd suggest we don't push the issue too hard with these Troperia people. I'm betting they don't know anything about the Terminal."

In a hushed voice, Whistler said, "Do you think a Power built it?"

"I don't see who else could have done it. There's no record of any Beyonder race ever interacting with a fourth spatial dimension. No one's ever even proven the existence of one."

Everyone was silent for a long time.

Then the console beeped. The Nos Lycarin Orbital Control message played. It was a few seconds before Whistler came back to his senses. Before he could respond, Godsgift added, "This message does-does-does-does-doesn't originate from the Troperia. Judging by the gravity well, the Troperia is currently planetside. It seems we're in contac-ac-ac-act with a spaceport."

"Identify us as the Godsgift," Whistler said, and paused to think. "We could seek sanctuary on the planet or on the Troperia," he said. "If the planet has a spaceport, it's obviously populated by sophonts."

"The ship," Sy said without hesitation. "The Terminal is way too fascinating to ignore, and it's obviously related to the Troperia, even if no one onboard knows anything about it."

"I concur," Godsgift said, "even though no one asked me-me-me-me. The presence of FTL-capable technology on this planet is uncertain, but the Troperia, whether it is FTL-capable or not, is clear-ear-early related to a device which is capable of not only FTL travel, but FTL travel in the Slow Zone. If we manage to get access to this technology, we may be able to retur-ur-ur-urn to Tines World."

And bring my people to the Beyond, Whistler thought, but no one needed to say it.

"All right," he said. "Tell them we intend to dock with the Troperia pending their permission, and can either approach the planet or stay out of range until the Troperia takes off, as they see fit."

"We could simply blow up the spaceport," Godsgift suggested.

No one said anything for a second.

"That was a jo-jo-jo-joke."

"You're not funny," Whistler snapped.

"If you say-ay-ay so. Relaying your message, Whistler."

"...I see. You all certainly have been busy." he says before going over to Blake. He holds a hand covered with an orange aura over Blake's bite wounds, letting his Essence work its way into his tissues, to accelerate the wound's healing and help slow the blood flow to help promote clotting. He works in cleaning it as a precaution before he takes a roll of bandages and rolls it around his bite wounds. "I know it's hard right now, but try to relax." Tor says with a slight not, holding the hand up to Blake's head, where his Essence works to try and ease the muscle contractions in his head to try and soothe his headache a bit.

"Yeah most of the adults treat me like I can't do anything, except one of our teachers who just buys loads of stuff for me. For the other kids... I suppose so. Its not like i'm asking to be treated different. It's not like I need help most of the time any more than anyone else." Russell responded with a mild disheartening.

Michael leaning over and reaching towards the food and getting his hand knocked away by the guidance cane. "Yeah you seen capable alright, with kicking our butts at the arcade." responding with a lighter tone to keep the mood up. He didn't want to see either of them get upset. His confidence was running higher again now, which was nice.

The Troperia - Med Bay

Toraq's aid certainly did help. The wound on his leg starting to close up nicely and it was bandaged now. More importantly for Blake is the suddenly given a sense of releaf as his headache cures and he is able to think more clearly. "T-Thanks Doc... I really needed that." He responds taking in a deep breath.

"Twenty five cans of beer before combat is not a good idea it turns out." Making a snark remark at the doctor before him.

Nos Lycarin - Orbital Control

The response came back and while nobody could hear it, there was a brief argument among individuals in the station. Trying to decide what exactly to do about all of this before two messages were sent out.

Outside the Subway of the Shard Starport

The woman and the boy raced outside into what was the busy starport. By the time the two had gotten outside, the security forces were already on approach and heading down the stairs. Neither of them really paid them much attention.

The boy had rushed to the side of the stairway, getting slightly tugged by the woman besides him and just rushing into her arms crying. "Wha- I- why" The boy was failing to manage anything coherent, any words were confused mutters while he was in a panicked state of shock.

The woman embraced the boy, whose head came conspicuously yet unintentionally close to a certain part of her chest as she held him. The woman let out a long calm shhhh...... to the boy trying to quieten him down despite all of the panicked people around. "Hey, hey its okay. Please calm dow-" The woman tried to calm the boy at least with a soft and nurturing tone despite being afraid herself.

The boy lashing out in fear back at her. "Don't tell me to be calm! I-I you know what just- I don't wanna lose-" He cried to her uncontrolled and reigned by fear of what could have happen. The woman just responding with another long and calming shhhh.... Then proceeding to just let him cry it out, repeatedly reminding him that they are both here, that they are both okay. The woman more than understood the boys fear, she was just as afraid even if she didn't show it.

The feline creature look sadly at the boy crying, eventually interrupting by raising a paw and patting him on the nose. The pat actually tickling the boy's nose enough to make him sneeze.

Perhaps in the future they'd be able to reintroduce themselves with more amity. Afterall, it was just a misunderstanding brought about by a poor choice of words on Torvahk's part. He was tempted to leave, but once again something else caught his attention: Another voice he had heard once before.

"Hello again, thanks many getting me out of the city." He tried to say as articulately as possible to Mireille. He didn't even bother trying to say her name, figuring that he was almost guaranteed to offend her by pronouncing it wrong.

[Godsgift, Approx. 7.8 Mm from the Nos Lycarin and the Troperia]

Sy had gone back to his invisible screens; Whistler was pawing through their supplies.

"Ooh," Godsgift said. "Get that."

A few of Whistler's heads tilted at the AI's tone. He was certainly getting less robotic, but Whistler wasn't sure how he felt about that. His Ra nosed at what looked like a metal collar. "This?"

"Ye-Ye-Ye-Yes. You should put it on for when you leave the ship. I can communicate with you vi-vi-vi-vi-via the transmitters embedded in it. Or if you prefer, I can simply transfer myself into its local storage. It doesn't have enough pro-pro-pro-pro-processing power for me to continue my self-repair, though."

"Maybe we'll hold off on that, then," Whistler said. "But keeping you handy could be useful." Ra draped the collar over Ed's nose, and Ed flipped up his head to let it fall into place around his neck.

"And in a pinch, it's also a self-contained tac-ac-ac-actical nuclear weapon!"

"Please stop telling jokes," Sy muttered from the corner.

"...Fine. But I do-do-do-don't know why it didn't occur to anybody to equip me with nukes. They're fun and educational!"
