OP kinda works, but it's kinda fuzzy for something that looks like pixel art (2D games are usually pixel art, but sometimes vector based).

Late to the party, didn't know this was reopened.
3 works for me, but I could nitpick that it seems more like he's jumping than dashing or running.
Another suggestion from me was Flame Stag from Mega Man X2. This is a sprite sheet I'm linking but any of the images on it are easily singled out.

Not sure what you mean by Wiki size, but scaling them up without quality loss isn't a problem at all.

Wikisize = scaled so that it's viewable on the wiki (and no bigger than 350 pixels).
As long as it's not too big, that looks like it can work.

I'd like to open with this image
from Mega Pony.
The character is clearly charging forward, as indicated by the streak behind her, and her hoof is outstreched to attack an enemy she's heading towards. On a minor note, her name being "Rainbow Dash" allows for a Visual Pun.
